To be totally f***ed off with this weather and considering buying a tumble dryer

Why the fuck is it raining non stop in JUNE?

I'm putting off washing sheets and clothes because the fucking rain won't stop so I can't dry them outside. I spend the whole winter drying washing inside the house on radiators and airers, is it too much to ask for the weather to be nice in the summer so my house isn't cluttered with clothes for a few months? This is really pissing me off.

I'm probably BU for not already owning a tumble dryer.

Would anyone recommend Very.co.uk? They have a pay in 3 months with interest free credit and 10% off first order, which we could afford. Is it a trustworthy website? I normally hate store cards and stuff, but I think this purchase is more of a basic need than a "want". There are 3 adults and 2 small children in our house, so our washing load is....ALOT.

Life to too short to stress over washing.

I always use mine come rain or shine, I will not hang washing on the line. In the winter it never drys and when it is summer I want to enjoy the garden and not look at the washing or dc using clothes as water gun targets

Sirzy · 06/06/2012 15:44

Get a tumble drier!!

Can't beat lined dried clothes but it's perfect for when weather won't allow it or for nice fluffy towels all year round

sugarice · 06/06/2012 15:45

I prize my tumble dryer above all other appliances, I'd be lost without mine. Very are reputable I think, as long as it's interest free go for it.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 06/06/2012 15:47

YABU for not owning a tumble dryer already! Mine has been broken for three weeks now, and I miss it Sad hopefully it will be back by the end of this week though, then dh can stop complaining that the towels are like cardboard pizza boxes.

SweetestThing · 06/06/2012 15:50

For me, there's nothing better than the smell of line-dried washing (and I get an unreasonable kick out of seeing it all flapping on the line Blush) but on days like today, I am very glad I bought a Lakeland heated clothes airer last winter. Haven't used my tumble drier since.

Pascha · 06/06/2012 15:52

I love drying on the line in winter and summer but god, I think I would cry if anyone took my tumble dryer away. Get one. Get any one. Your life will be revolutionised.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 06/06/2012 15:54

I use my tumble all year round......cuts down on the ironing, worth its weight in gold!! Mine was a cheapie from argos - white swan, something like that I think and it has been fab...was about £140 or something.

rainydaysarebad · 06/06/2012 15:54

Ok, that's it. I'm opening a Very account and getting one. Never thought that not being able to wash and dry clothes would get my heart racing like this.

GrahamTribe · 06/06/2012 16:08

How the hell have you survived this long without a dryer?!

Can I give you all an important piece of advice though - please either buy new or one that's fully inspected/safety approved by a qualified electrician (charity stores, for example, have to have electrical appliances checked and marked as such by law). Tumble dryers can be a fire hazard after some time and use.

A friend of mine was chatting to me on the phone one night when I heard a massive bang and her scream, "The kitchen's on fire!". I told her to call me when she could and slammed the phone down so she could get a line out to dial 999 and called them myself too. Hours passed and I heard nothing, I kept dialling until she eventually got to the phone, in tears. The house was 90% smoke damaged, her 11 yo DD lucky to have got out, having been picked up out of bed and carried down stairs by her elder son. It took a year for the house to be made habitable and they never saw their cat again.

The fire brigade said that the cause of the fire was the tumble dryer and that it wasn't an uncommon occurance with tumblers which had been owned for more than 3 or 4 years without being safety checked and cleaned out.

I'm another one that can't live without my lovely tumble dryer Grin

LST · 06/06/2012 16:14

YANBU. I have a Tumble dryer but only use it for emergencies. It's too expensive to run the bloody thing!

Badvoc · 06/06/2012 16:16

GET ONE

I love mine.

That, and my dishwasher!

valiumredhead · 06/06/2012 16:17

Mine is on atm - I have a lovely pile of freshly laundered washing in my kitchen. It has to be BOILING before I hang anything outside on the line.

valiumredhead · 06/06/2012 16:18

New driers are much cheaper to run than the old money hungry ones.

Babylon1 · 06/06/2012 16:20

I've used very.co.Uk for years, in fact since they were aboundonline.co.Uk and then adfitionsdirect........

Great company, very trustworthy, good delivery and returns options, you shouldn't have any worries there Grin

DrSeuss · 06/06/2012 16:20

Never had one, never wanted one. If you don't overfill the airer, stuff dries quite quickly. In winter I use the radiators. We use terry nappies which dry overnight on them, the heating going off at 10 and on at 6.

Noqontrol · 06/06/2012 16:20

I love my tumble dryer. We only got one for the first time late last year and my life has been revolutionised. I now cannot imagine life without one Grin

Silverstar2 · 06/06/2012 16:20

I've never understood the tumble dryer thing - I have one, in the garage, buy never use it (can't remember the last time I used it actually....). Maybe it's to do with space - we have a spare room and the clothes get hung on 2 airers in there and are dry in no time, and always outside in the summer. No problem. We have 2 adults and 2 DC in the house.

But then I don't have a dishwasher either, and don't see the need....

Am I just weird do you think?!

valiumredhead · 06/06/2012 16:22

Yes very weird!

I fold straight from the drier so no need for ironing EVER!!!!

GrahamTribe · 06/06/2012 16:22

Probably not, Silverstar. I have a tumble dryer and a dishwasher and would be lost without them but I suspect that I'm just lazy. Grin

NakedButNotFamous · 06/06/2012 16:23

I couldn't live without the dryer now. I use it all year round even though I said I'd only use it in winter. The one I have is cheap to run and energy efficient anyway so I'm guilt free about it

valiumredhead · 06/06/2012 16:23

It's not lazy, it's good time management Wink

EdSillyBand · 06/06/2012 16:23

We have a lakeland dry soon heated rail. Would thoroughly recommend it. Rarely use the tumble drier, but would be lost without the lakeland thing.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 06/06/2012 16:24

I could never dry towels any other way than tumble - they stay really soft.....towels dried on the line or rads always feel like sandpaper!

Now a dishwasher I dont have but I couldnt live without my tumble!
