Everything I bloody read or hear at the moment involves popping.

Makes your eyes pop
Pops of colour

Why why why

Who said it first. I demand to know.

Cake pops Grin

TheCunningStunt · 06/06/2012 14:54

It's like things being "dope" ....there was only once kind of dope in my youth

squeakytoy · 06/06/2012 14:56

ping is the one that irritates me at the moment..

oooh "ping" me an email..

I will "ping" it over to you right now..

wtf did "ping" suddenly come from... Hmm

Corgito · 06/06/2012 15:14

Adam and Eve wasn't it? "And yea verily the serpent saith to Eve 'Over here love and try my Pippins and btw you might want to pop on a vest'"

GrendelsMum · 06/06/2012 15:46

Ping is a technical term - it's the command that you use to check whether your computer can send a small amount of data to another computer and receive a reply.

GiserableMitt · 06/06/2012 15:51

I hate 'pop', it's so twee.

Pop it in the fridge for an hour for the flavours to develop then pop it in the oven while you pop to the shops for some wine. Or pop.

harrietlichman · 06/06/2012 17:05

I've noticed the 'colour pop' thing too - drives me nuts. Along with 'on trend' and 'fashion forward'.

suzikettles · 06/06/2012 17:11

I first started hearing it from a friend who is studying photography. She used it to describe a good photo, or when touching up a not so good one using Photoshop (ie "I increased the saturation and the contrast to make it really pop".)

That was a couple of years ago, but it seems like it's everywhere now.

yellowraincoat · 06/06/2012 17:16

harrietlichman I hate those phrases too. "It's bang on trend" - BAAAAH.

somedayma · 06/06/2012 17:17

I can't even describe how much I hate the phrase 'colour pop'. It makes me cringe so much. Gap had a window poster advertising 'colour pop jeans' or something and every time I walked past it on my way to work I'd stay angry for a full 5 mins

OTheHugeJubilee · 06/06/2012 17:18

Ooh, yes, and 'pop up shop' gets right up my nose.

RaPaPaPumPumBootyMum · 06/06/2012 17:32

Hate this too.

There was an article over the weekend about how Duchess CMs dress colour was really popping or something like that. It made me grimace.

Also hate "bang on trend" yellowraincoat. It is used by lazy fashion journalists who need to convince the masses to buy into the latest fashion so we can all look like the latest 'in style' celeb Hmm And part with our hard earned cash so we can be unimaginative sheep acceptable to the fashion moguls and justify the salaries of the PRs of the designer brands

Also "colourways" makes me grind my teeth, as in this dress comes in two colourways. Why not say colours and be done with it?

Mrsjay · 06/06/2012 17:33

I said POP on a thread recently but i was being sarky

Pandemoniaa · 06/06/2012 17:35

YABU. Suddenly we're surrounded by "pop-up" shops, cafes and parties too. WTAF? It's a meaningless phrase for something that's presumably not permanent.

administrator · 06/06/2012 17:38

I can't bear all this 'luxe' business. Who made that word up??!!
It seems to describe expensive, 'must-have' beauty products.
Awful.

yellowraincoat · 06/06/2012 17:43

Oh, something I've noticed recently is "shop" as a transitive verb.

"SHOP THE LATEST SHOES"
"SHOP NEW TRENDS"

God, just say "buy" ffs. It sounds so pretentious. Oh no, I'm not "buying" stuff with my grubby horrible money, I'm "shopping" these luxe bang on trend must-haves.

sarahseashell · 06/06/2012 19:06

shop the latest shoe with a pop of luxe
Grin

Niceupthedance · 06/06/2012 19:17

Yo what's poppin'?

blonderthanred · 06/06/2012 19:19

Oh, I know this one!

I was in New York in Spring 2005 and I bought a Closer-type magazine and it said something like, Lindsay Lohan is wearing black Michael Kors with a color-pop purse, then on the next page it said, Shakira's green shoes really make her eyes pop (which sounded a bit funny) and then it said, Lucy Liu is in neutrals with a pop of color in her necklace.

I thought, wow this pop thing sounds like it's going to catch on.

By Autumn, all the Uk mags started doing it.

*I have made up the celebrities and finer details, but you get the picture.

fedupofnamechanging · 06/06/2012 19:23

The colour pop thing is less annoying than reference in magazines/crap telly to the shoe, trouser or pant. Surely these things are plural!

Want2bSupermum · 06/06/2012 19:23

Blonder beat me to it. This is an import from the US. It drives me nuts.

yellowraincoat · 06/06/2012 19:25

Oh oh oh and "piece" as in "look at these beautiful pieces from Topshop."

BBBAAAAH

stressheaderic · 06/06/2012 19:29

"On chilly days, team with a thick woollen tight". WTAF?
I hate fashion journospeak. It's all shite. Pop that in your must-have pipe and smoke it.

maras2 · 06/06/2012 19:29

Anyone old enough to remember 'Pop Pop Pop into the Birdseye Shop'for(insert any frozen food)Sweet as the moment when the pod went pop(do that thing with little finger inside the cheek to make the sound.

yellowraincoat · 06/06/2012 19:31
