So, swimming yesterday for about half an hour. When I got out, two of the three cubicles around the edge of the communal area were taken and one was full of clothes. I asked the people in the changing room, not theirs. I checked the shower and toilet area, nobody there. So I went in and got changed.

Halfway through changing, there is a knock on the door. 'Is someone in there, that is my cubicle?'
Me: 'I didn't realise this cubicle belonged to anyone'
Her: 'Were the clothes not a giveaway?'
Now, I am allowed to be sarcy, but don't try it if you are in the bloody wrong!
Me: I checked, this cubicle was not being used, I assumed someone had forgotten to put their stuff in a locker. I'll be done i a minute, or do you want me to pass you your clothes?'

Emerge a few minutes later to a cold, dripping woman with a death stare. She had been in the pool when I got out so was definetaly NOT using the cubicle.

I smiled sweetly and said 'There you go, do remember to put your clothes in the locker next time won't you?' and walked off. At least 3 people in the communal area gave me a little triumphant smile.

Now there are fucking great notices everywhere saying 'DON'T LEAVE STUFF IN CUBICLES' so it was bloody obvious she only did it to reserve herself a cubicle after her swim.

WIBU or was she a selfish, rude, ignorant bitch so and so who deserved a lesson?

And why has this made me so irrationally angry?

Yay! Good for you! Cheeky so-and-so. "That's my cubicle." Brilliant response on your part.

manicbmc · 06/06/2012 10:07

Excellent response. Grin

knowitallstrikesagain · 06/06/2012 10:09

I get very sarcastic when I am angry, but reason with myself that it is better than swearing at them. God I was cross!

YANBU on any level what-so-ever IMO and IME.

DS (7) has swimming lessons and so often is left there freezing and dripping onto a towel - he then needs to dry himself with because people leave their children's clothes in the cubicle whilst they swim. So each cubicle can be occupied for about 45 minutes. There are about 30 cubicles and there still isn't enough!

knowitallstrikesagain · 06/06/2012 10:23

But someone must think it's resonable to do this? Or do they know they are in the wrong so won't own up? Seems like loads of people do it.

Grin Cubicle rage! I've heard it all now! totally behind you

Fayrazzled · 06/06/2012 10:26

I came across this last week on holiday. It is the height of rudeness. Good for you. I mean, how hard is it to put yourself in a locker, FFS. It just epitomises the "me, me,me" culture that seems to be increasingly prevalent.

Fayrazzled · 06/06/2012 10:27

Not yourself obviously. Your clothes.

diddl · 06/06/2012 10:28

Ooh I like your style!

I probably would have dumped them on the benches-trying not to drop or get them wet in the process.

"Were the clothes not a giveaway"??!!

A giveaway of what?

That someone´s too lazy to use a locker?

Is swimming & will be out in 5mins/an hr?

lunar1 · 06/06/2012 10:29

Its so annoying, I have been known to accidently drop my costume or the boys armbands on their clothes, its difficult managing myself and a 3 yr old and 10 month old. Its not like there is a communal bit as its mixed sex.

NicholasTeakozy · 06/06/2012 10:29

So she wasn't worried about having her stuff stolen? Sill cow. I'd have hidden her clothes in the shower

shelley72 · 06/06/2012 10:32

This drives me mad! There is a woman who does this EVERY week at swimming lessons, claiming a family changing room when she doesn't even need the baby change. it makes me cross, esp when I am stood dripping wet with dd. Makes me so cross!

Collaborate · 06/06/2012 10:32

At my kids swimming lesson pool they once did a sweep of all the cubicles, and made them collect their belongings from a central point after their swim.

I often dream of removing someone's stuff from a cubicle then denying all knowledge of it. YADNBU.

Chandon · 06/06/2012 10:33

you are my cubicle hero!

I have often wanted to do this, but never dared to. Instead me and 2 dripping DC hang around miserably for an empty one to come up (not daring to take one with clothes in it)

badtasteflump · 06/06/2012 10:34

I've never heard of anyone doing that - I'd be too worried about my stuff getting pinched

TheCunningStunt · 06/06/2012 10:36

Do you live near me op?? DS has swimming lessons and the parents of children in the NEXT class after DS come into the changing rooms(when DS is in the pool) and "book" cubicles by putting clothes in! So when DS comes out dripping wet they expect the children just out not to use the cubicles Hmm. Needless to say we use them anyway since their kid won't need it for 30 mins. Makes me a bit Hmm

YouOldSlag · 06/06/2012 10:36

YANBU- how rude of her!

It's like she's saying: "I like this cubicle and intend to reserve it for my own personal use whenever I feel like ending my swim. The rest of you can sod off"

FallenCaryatid · 06/06/2012 10:36

I have moved clothes in the past into an open locker.
It's selfish to hog a cubicle for an hour or so whilst you swim, so I feel no shame about acting on it.

TheMonster · 06/06/2012 10:40

I like the idea of accidentally putting your wet stuff on their clothes.

sue52 · 06/06/2012 10:44

I've longed to do as you did many times but am a bit too cowardly polite.

tyler80 · 06/06/2012 10:46

yanbu, although i'd always move clothes rather than getting changed around them
i'm surprised at the number of people who'd stand round and wait rather than moving clothes tbh

LRDtheFeministDragon · 06/06/2012 10:47

YANBU at all. I hate having to move clothes into a locker but I've never actually thought to carry on and change with them there! Grin

The most ridiculous woman does it at my local pool and constantly ends up in arguments with the staff who tell her not to, because she claims to be incapable of not freezing to death in the 30 seconds or so it'd take to go and unlock a locker. Hmm

Well done you!
