to wonder if anyone uses fountain pens anymore?

I do use them sometimes, but they always seem to leak, dry up etc. I have a Mont Blanc which my husband bought me for my birthday a couple of years ago, which has never worked - or perhaps it is something to do with the way I use it....

I always think that letters written in ink look so elegant, so perhaps I should persevere: or am I just old fashioned?

I use a Parker with a calligraphy nib, so much neater than with a biro. I don't write by hand very much niwadays though.

DollyTwat · 05/06/2012 20:13

this is where I get my pen porn from www.cultpens.com and I've just ordered some more stuff!!

BambinoBoo · 05/06/2012 20:15

My dad does. Always. Every card we have ever received has had smudged ink. Grin

Salmotrutta · 05/06/2012 20:22

The Queen eschews biros and always carries a fountain pen in her handbag. Wink

LadyTeeAndBiscuits · 05/06/2012 20:22

If my arthritis wasn't so bad, I'd use a fountain pen. I used one for years. Now I use a special pen with a squishy thing on it so I can hold it.

Or just use my iPhone.

No soul, but at least I can read it when I'm finished!

I have a sheaffer that I use at home, but I would never take it anywhere as it was my dads and I would be so upset to lose it.

Noooo! Fountain pens are not for sharing. I'd be cross and twitchy as well Angry

LadyTeeAndBiscuits · 05/06/2012 20:34

You should never share your fountain pen as the nib adjusts to your writing and if you let someone else use it, it will damage the nib.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 05/06/2012 20:37

One of my colleagues will use my fountain pen given half a chance and it enrages me!

kittyandthefontanelles · 05/06/2012 20:37

I do all the time. It's the only pen I use. I also write letters.

kittyandthefontanelles · 05/06/2012 20:41

Definitely NEVER share a pen. NEVER!

difficultpickle · 05/06/2012 20:43

I've had two fountain pens that I've used and abused - a lovely Elysee pen that I lost and a Waterman that fell apart. This thread has made me think about treating myself to a new one.

I'd love to know who would spend nearly £3,000 on a pen Shock

coffeeandcream · 05/06/2012 20:45

Reassuring to know I'm not the only one who gets furious over other people touching my pen!

YardBroom · 05/06/2012 20:45

My dc school insist they write in fountain pens

MayasPapaya · 05/06/2012 20:46

Pocket money! I once sold a pen for £28,000

TheCunnyFunt · 05/06/2012 21:04

28,000k on a pen? What was it, solid gold?

MayasPapaya · 05/06/2012 21:06

Nar, but it was a one of a kind hand-painted Japanese lacquer pen from the late 1920s. I know similar that sold for $250,000+

echt · 05/06/2012 21:06

I recommend fountain pens for students who struggle with their handwriting. It works. It slows them down, enabling them to form letters more clearly.

difficultpickle · 05/06/2012 21:16

You'd never ever use a pen that cost £28,000 though would you? As for $250,000 you'd stick in a safe never to be seen again!

MayasPapaya · 05/06/2012 21:20

When I worked in the pen shop we sold a 1920s pen that had never been filled with ink. Cost a couple of thousand. New owner filled it up in the shop in front of us - I thought my boss was going to cry.

DollyTwat · 05/06/2012 21:25

They explain on the cult owns site that over a certain amount you are paying for embellishments. They also have retractable fountain pens for £250 which I covet

DollyTwat · 05/06/2012 21:25

*pens

difficultpickle · 05/06/2012 21:27

What's a retractable fountain pen?

marriedinwhite · 05/06/2012 21:30

My DH does.
