To think our neighbours should have spoken to us before deciding to keep a bee hive?

Our neighbours 2 doors down have recently decided to take up beekeeping. The first we knew of it was when the bees were disturbed, creating a large angry swarm.

My DH is allergic to bee stings (and so naturally has quite a debilitating fear) and DS is only 18mo; I just would have thought they would have at least knocked on our door and said 'by the way, we're starting a hive and the bees will be disturbed by us at X time so you might want to shut your doors and windows'. They seem like nice people, but there seems to be a lack of consideration for others.

The bees are swarming right now, so even though the sun is shining, we can't get outside in the garden to play with DS like we wanted to Sad

AIBU to think they have been a bit unfair on the rest of the neighbourhood? It's quite a populated area.

mayBEE you could start a thread about it instead of resurrecting a zomBEE

YANBU.

I don't know the law, but I'd be absolutely ill with fear. I am allergic to bees (i carry an Epipen, anaphylactic shock if I am stung), and my DS was hospitalised the first and only thank god time he was stung. I've been told that any further sting makes the reaction to it worse.

I think it's highly inconsiderate to do this without asking neighbours. If you live on a farm, brilliant, keep as many bees as you like. But if you have neighbours and don't ask? Massively selfish of them imo

When I was at primary school the Headmaster kept bees in his garden next to the school playground and it was never a problem.

Why on earth has the same poster bumped this thread one year after it finished, then again two years later?

kali110 · 02/07/2015 06:22

Same person?

Annoyed that its a bloody zombie thread!!!

Mehitabel6 · 02/07/2015 06:56

I hate it when I don't notice. Why would you do it? Start a new one.

I'm allergic to bee stings too. A childhood neighbour who lived four doors down kept bees as well and generally they were not a problem at all. However, you'd probably be within your rights to spray them if they came into your yard. That said, bee colonies are collapsing around the world and I wouldn't do it personally, even though I'm allergic. We need more bees.

My son is suffering terribly with Hay Fever at the moment. I have been told local honey may help but no local beekeepers in my area. Son and I keep rescuing tired bees with drinks of sugar water . They are fascinating to watch but I do understand your concern if DH is allergic to them.
