Pregnancy And Implanon

riptide · 03/06/2012 10:01

Does anyone have any stories of it actually happening ?
Also, I heard that women that get pregnant on Implanon have a higher chance of miscarriage?

I had my Implanon inserted about 2 and a half weeks ago. I had unprotected sex multiple times (with my boyfriend!) prior to it fully kicking in. Now I'm starting to get crazy symptoms, and I'm really thinking that being pregnant is a possibility. I 'm 4 days late for my period, and I don't know if it's the bar messing with my hormones or not :/

Most sexual health centres use the same ones as the pound land ones.

Okay, guys. Didn't actually expect this many replies.

The only reason my boyfriend and I are broke at the moment is because I got fired from my job last week, and he's starting a new job this week. We normally both have enough money to support ourselves financially.

Yes, it was stupid for both of us to get caught up in the moment but things happen. We weren't exactly thinking "Wow, let's have sex before the Implanon is effective so we can become parents!".

My boyfriend and I have been together for about a year, he proposed to me a few weeks ago, though we aren't old enough to get married. We both agreed that we wanted to have a family early. While this is lot earlier than we expected, we both think it's a blessing.

I did my second pregnancy test today, it turned up positive. My boyfriend and I are very excited. I'm going to the doctors tomorrow to get the Implanon removed and have the pregnancy confirmed by blood test.

Thank you all for your help and support.

Hi op I know I am late to this thread but I became pg as doctor who inserted the implant told me to wait seven days before unprotected sex, she should have advised fourteen.

Please have it removed asap as there is a small chance it can affect your pg. Good luck to you and your boyfriend.

I don't believe a word of it mostly because implanon is no longer fitted and has been replaced by another brand

sensuallettuce · 04/06/2012 08:38

We still fit implanon?

Don't believe you would go to the GP to get pregnancy confirmed by blood test though Confused - or why a 16 year old and her b/f "normally have enough money to support themselves financially" - so you are not living with your parents then? Confused.

sensuallettuce · 04/06/2012 08:42

Maybe we don't Fizzybee - the sexual health nurse that does it always says implanon but maybe we have a load of ones they want to use before the new one. The implants cost about £100 each.

I got married at 17, pregnant 7months later, I miscarried, went on to fall pregnant two years later and miscarried again, now I have a healthy two year old but I am currently in the middle of a divorce. Sometimes it doesn't work out. its hard being married and being a parent.

I wish you both the best of luck,

Good luck with the pregnancy OP. You'll have to keep us updated.

Sidge · 04/06/2012 15:30

It's now called Nexplanon but is the same thing as Implanon essentially.

If you couldn't wait for the implant to become effective as contraception OP why did you waste the time, effort and money to have it fitted?

MyLittleMiracles · 04/06/2012 15:38

Like the OP said, she got lost in the moment. Plenty of people do. I don't know many people who can say all the sex they have had has been planned.

The OP knows it wasn't right, but now needs support through her pregnancy.

OP pm me if you need anything.

Sidge · 04/06/2012 15:43

Yes, she 'got lost in the moment' repeatedly over the course of a week... Hmm

MyLittleMiracles · 04/06/2012 16:04

I have got lost in the moment repeatedly before but fortunately after having my son I had my implant fitted (who by the way was planned seeing as I was married 4years at the time.)

Sidge · 04/06/2012 16:10

I don't give two hoots whether people have implants, unprotected sex or children out of wedlock.

My issue is this - why bother wasting a HCPs time, effort and money having an implant fitted if you can't be bothered to wait for it to become effective?

MyLittleMiracles · 04/06/2012 17:11

What's done is done and can't be changed.

FartBlossom · 04/06/2012 17:22

When I was 16 I was naive and honestly never thought it would happen to me. Luckily it didn't, but I just never expected it. Isn't that normal?

I too thought Implanon was not offered anymore, but I could be wrong and will accept that.

Dont think all the judgy Hmm faces are going to help anyone.

I just want to offer my good luck to the OP and I hope it all works out fine.

BTW my friends mum got pregnant at 16 so they got married had my friends older sister than had my friend. They have been married over 35 years now.
