Pregnancy And Implanon

riptide · 03/06/2012 10:01

Does anyone have any stories of it actually happening ?
Also, I heard that women that get pregnant on Implanon have a higher chance of miscarriage?

I had my Implanon inserted about 2 and a half weeks ago. I had unprotected sex multiple times (with my boyfriend!) prior to it fully kicking in. Now I'm starting to get crazy symptoms, and I'm really thinking that being pregnant is a possibility. I 'm 4 days late for my period, and I don't know if it's the bar messing with my hormones or not :/

Oh - and I know this because I run a sexual health centre and girls have abortions and a few months later are back asking for the MAP Hmm.

McHappyPants2012 · 03/06/2012 22:07

My sister is 16 and she is not reckless, she uses condoms and also got the implant.

Not all teens are reckless

sensuallettuce · 03/06/2012 22:09

Unfortunately a lot are.

McHappyPants2012 · 03/06/2012 22:09

So how many 16 are in your area compared to the abortion rate

sensuallettuce · 03/06/2012 22:11

It's not just about abortions is it? What about STI's?

Fizzybee · 03/06/2012 22:12

Not being funny here but how can u have sex multiple times and yet find it difficult to get a pregnancy test without your parents finding out? I'm nightly confused how u can have sex but not get a pregnancy test?

McHappyPants2012 · 03/06/2012 22:13

So what's the figures on that aswell how many 16 year old are in your area and how many of them has had a STI

McHappyPants2012 · 03/06/2012 22:13

Fizzy the cost of them

Fizzybee · 03/06/2012 22:17

Surely she could go to the clinic she got the implant for of go to the gp for a test if money is an issue

Btw yabu this isn't an appropriate place for this!

sensuallettuce · 03/06/2012 22:18

Last yr 7 in 10 had an STI and I think it was about 15% of the abortion rate.2 in 3 young people (under 16) have an abortion and we have about 6 or 7 positive pg tests a month. Am crap at Maths.

McHappyPants2012 · 03/06/2012 22:21

Is that 7/10 who have been tested or the Whole area.

Also 15% is not alot seeing as the older women have a higher %

sensuallettuce · 03/06/2012 22:23

Omg - its still not good that a 16 yr old girl has been taking risks - would be happy to be pg but is not able to afford a pg test. Hmm.

Why are you picking at me?

McHappyPants2012 · 03/06/2012 22:27

Because you are the one with the rolly eyes, this young women came on here asking for advice.

sensuallettuce · 03/06/2012 22:28

So we aren't allowed to tell her she's being bloody reckless?

McHappyPants2012 · 03/06/2012 22:31

But you didn't say she was reckless or anything just are you 15 with rolly eyes

Heck you haven't even offered any advice ( as much as I can respect you not wanting bringing your work home)

LST · 03/06/2012 22:34

Too late for telling her now really isn't it?

She needs advice and a shoulder! She's already said that she knows she was silly.

sensuallettuce · 03/06/2012 22:35

She needs to do a pg test every week for the next 3 weeks if she stil gets a negative she needs to go to her Gp.

If she gets a positive she needs to go to her local BPAS.

Would also recommend she goes to her local GUM clinic and gets a full screen.

sensuallettuce · 03/06/2012 22:37

Pisses me off as there is no excuse. Poor kids who are born into it.

I say it here because it frustrates me at work and spend all day giving the sympathetic shoulder there.

Here I can vent.

AmberLeaf · 03/06/2012 22:40

Wow sensuallettuce!

Maybe you need to learn some empathy skills eh?

sensuallettuce · 03/06/2012 22:41

I use them every bloody day actually Amberleaf.

So everyone here would be fine if this was their daughter yes?

LST · 03/06/2012 22:44

I would be disappointed but I think she'd have bigger things on her mind to be worrying about than telling a mother that would give her a mouthful.

sensuallettuce · 03/06/2012 22:45

Well - that's the biggest worry of most of the girls we see.

LST · 03/06/2012 22:47

Exactly.. I'd hate for my daughter to feel like that. Being pregnant at 16 is not the end of the world. Silly and irresponsible. But not the end of the world. (IMHO)

sensuallettuce · 03/06/2012 22:49

I agree LST. Always tell girls that we have never known a mum actually kill thir daughter Grin.

monkeymoma · 03/06/2012 22:51

pound shops do 2 for £1 on pregnancy tests, they wont show up a positive as early as the more expensive ones, but by 3 weeks post conception they would show up

good luck
