to think that Steve Backshall doesn't really give a dam about kids

My DC are massive Deadly Sixty fans, booked tickets on the announcement day for the Steve Backshall Tour and got front row seats. The date has been on the calendar for months.

But got an email today saying they have cancelled the performance as not enough people bought tickets. There is another performance that day, but we can?t change. DCs are devastated.

The venue is Warwick Arts Centre and it will be open for other things anyway. The stage will need to be set and taken down for the other performance that day. In other words, I can?t see that they would make a huge loss by going ahead.

AIBU to be pissed off that profits always come first.

Steve is my free pass.

If the opportunity ever arises DH understands that he is to step aside and wish us well.Wink

OhChristFENTON · 02/06/2012 12:51

I love how this thread has backfired turned into a Steve Backshall love-in Grin

I [heart] Steve, so do my boys... for quite different reasons.

NonAstemia · 02/06/2012 12:56

Here he is plugging his new book, for all you Backshall-babes. Wink

NoVegBeforeHerMej · 02/06/2012 12:58

Mmmm Steve!

LetUsPrey I just did an actual Lol at your crutches plan Grin

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 02/06/2012 13:15

I'm more of a Packham girl myself. I have loved him since my teens. Ds and I went to one of his talks, which was fab. When I said "thank you" for giving ds his autograph and he said "it's a pleasure" (or words to that effect) I almost actually literally died. Blush

His shoehorning Smiths song titles into every Springwatch (or was it Autumnwatch?) was the highlight of my TV viewing for a while. It was like he was talking to me [unhinged]

MissMogwi · 02/06/2012 13:21

I've just seen an advert for Deadly 60 play sets. With a little Steve figure...

A tiny Steve that could live in your bra pocket.

Grin
JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 02/06/2012 13:26

Now that would be unhinged, Mogwi Grin

bishboschone · 02/06/2012 13:26

He wrote my daughter a hand written latter from the amazon after she wrote to tell him he was her favourite tv person for a school project . It was a fabulous heartfelt letter. He didn't have to do that , he could have for his pa to send a picture and a generic letter . I heart Steve !

UnRoyalCharter · 02/06/2012 13:27

he's on TV now

DH and DS2 are saying how great he is, i'm nodding Grin

QuintessentialShadows · 02/06/2012 13:28

ooooh, I need to find a deadly 60 show in London, the kids luuuuurve it.

knottyhair · 02/06/2012 13:29

One of my good friends filmed him when he made "Land of the Lost Tiger" and said he was lovely. He signed one of his books for my DS and it was a really lovely personal message. He's apparently a big gay icon but my friend said he's had "relations" with a few women she knows and he's definitely straight, just in case anyone wondered....

He shook DS1's hand and sort of patted his arm/shoulder when we were having a photo done with him last year. He had a chat with DS1 who was just so happy afterwards! This was the same photo where I stood behind the seated Steve, edging forward ever so slightly so my leg was millimetres from his shoulder/back. Then he leant back in his chair and he was pressing right against my thigh! I was just staring down at his neck and biting my lip so as not to lean down and lick him Blush. He shook my hand after, I said thanks for the photo and chatting to DS1, he said you're very welcome and just stared at me (in a good way) with those incredible brown eyes. I actually gasped. I'm going a bit funny just thinking about it again Grin

knottyhair · 02/06/2012 13:59

Glad to be of service Tory! LetUsPrey, your account really made me laugh Grin.

vnmum · 02/06/2012 14:03

Steves tour is coming to our town and I was going to get tickets for DS and I, DH very kindly said he would saty at home with DD so I could go Grin, but then I read it said suitable for 8+. DS is 6.5. He is quite mature for his age and a massive steve fan. He has just been doing Deadly 60 as his curriculum topic for last term so I thought he would like to go. Do you think he will be too young?

I also thought of getting him the Tiger wars book but I am not sure if it will be too old for him. His reading ability isn't a problem it is more the plot and context. Has anyone actually seen the book to tell me wether it would be suitable?

ooh, and Deadly 60 is back on every day next week, woo hoo! Grin

LetUsPrey · 02/06/2012 14:12

Don't know about the book vnmum, but you contact someone re DS's age suitability IYSWIM.

Thanks knottyhair. Did I mention I also touched his snake? Grin And you have no idea how much I wish that wasn't a euphemism Grin

LetUsPrey · 02/06/2012 14:13

you could contact

bishboschone · 02/06/2012 14:25

I saw him live in our home town . I actually gasped when I saw him .my dh was sat next to me so I tried to hide but he is very very manly !!!

Enragia · 02/06/2012 14:27

My h knows Steve. H is continually impressed by his patience when out and about. That he stops to chat and makes time for kids.
Your op is basically a load of bollocks.

Moln · 02/06/2012 15:20

If my DH knew Steve, I don't think he'd ever introduce us. I think he is aware of my pervertions interest in watching him on TV and my masterplan to cunningly remove DH from the scene and win over Mr Deadly 60 (as DS2 calls him.

We have a few of the mini figures, no Steve yet, though I'm impressed with the thinking of having him live in my bra

Not really suprised to know he's a gay icon he really is phwar isn't he. Homosexual men obviously have very good taste

IAmSherlocked · 02/06/2012 15:32

Love the Steve love-in!

We went to one of the Live N Deadly roadshows last year, and DS was on TV with Steve asking him a question about a gecko Grin

He is so very manly. I got loads of photos. Fortunately DH knows about my crush so didn't look like this Hmm when he saw we had four thousand photos of Steve and two of Naomi Grin

Has the OP been back recently to see how her AIBU thread is working out for her? Wink

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 02/06/2012 17:52

To be fair on the OP, I ds would be very upset in these circs.

Is there really nobody else that can take your children, creamteas ? Not one of their friends' parents maybe?

I think especially given that there's another show at the same venue on the same day, that YABU. Most people would have been able to reschedule quite easily.

ToryLovell · 02/06/2012 19:06

Good point Jenai - I'm suprised Lynette hasn't volunteered already.

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 02/06/2012 19:13

Op
Your obvious solution is to get one of these filthy old letches wonderful Mumsnetters, to take your DCs to the other showing.
