To STILL be embarassed 2 weeks later (Firemen related)

Hi Ive namecanged as IRL this is TOTALLY identifiable (sp??)

Two weeks ago I was just about to turn in for the night when I decided to put into our loft a large piece of loft flooring.

2.4m by 80cm or so.

I stood on the ladder and got DS1 (13) to help me.

All was going well untill the board went past the "tipping point" at which point it over balanced and trapped me.

I had started the whole thing wrong and so ended up facing backwards on the loft ladder with the (bloody rather heavy) board trapping my neck against the lost hatch surround.

NOT a good situation to be in. I was carrying the weight of the loft board and was slipping further and further down so was getting more and more trapped.

The DCs got my nephew round to help but when he moved the board it just trapped me futher.

Que calls to 999 and me shouting from the loft to their request for an ambulance " I AM breathing, do NOT send a paramedic !!!"

Soooooo, much to my relief the firemen arrived and I am quickly freed.

TWO engines ( shame , shame) and a paramedic car ( double shame)

BUT........

and here is my AIBU fot STILL cringing every time I think of it.

I was wearing my swimming costume .

Im just cringing as I sit here, sigh ... will it EVERY go away

hahahahahahaha Grin

Hilarious

OMGwhyohwhy · 30/05/2012 22:42

There was quite a bit of professional "silence" as not one of the 5 firemen asked exactly why I was in a swimming costume.

At least the paramedic lady didnt have to get me to roll up my sleeve for the blood pressure monitor.

TribbleWithoutACause · 30/05/2012 22:43

You will be a story that those fireman tell people for YEARS!!!

MaureenMLove · 30/05/2012 22:45

And THIS is exactly why I ignore all the shit going on around the MN boards, in the knowledge that one day, someone will post something so ridiculously funny, it reminds me why I love MN! Grin

God love you OP - hilarious! Grin

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 30/05/2012 22:45

Que me shouting " Up , up, go over me , I dont want it BACK in the hall

Brilliant. Desperately stuck but still practical. Soooo MN.

Maybe if there is every a charity calender you could be the May Girl posing in your swim suit in the same position!

They could call it the twelve most memorable...

Im thinking of sendign a cake and a sample "Safe use of equipment : Fire brigade advice" leaflet.

a) Chain sawing : Picture of safety trousers
b) welding : Picture of safety mask
c) General DIY : Picture of swimming costume.

I think I should donate to their "fund" down at the station, theres going to be PTSD for the lot of them. I might only be small ( eg 12-13 costume) but Ive had 4 kids.

Thats not a sight you want ot see from below, under strain on a ladder.

Grin You will get good karma from making us laugh

oopslateagain · 30/05/2012 22:55

OMG I needed this tonight.

Cucumber! You didn't!

Grin

Are you likely to see any of them on the street? You know, out of uniform? would they recognise you?

Selks · 30/05/2012 22:57

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!! Grin

Simply awesome, the whole thing.....particularly the cucumber comment and the instruction that the board MUST go into the loft!

They will be chuckling about this for weeks at the firestation Grin

(sorry OP)

OMGwhyohwhy · 30/05/2012 23:03

Oh well , best get off to bed now ( NOT in a swimming costume)

It is funny, I get a sort of "why??" face when I tell people IRL about the swimming costume.

At least it wasnt bondage gear !

night night ,gald I gave you all a laugh Grin

Until you have been put in an ambulance, carried out past all your neighbours who were having a nose at why there was an ambulance on the path, when you were without any trousers, due to having had a seizure whilst sitting on the loo, you don't know what embarassment IS. When you bear in mind that they wheeled me INTO A&E without a blanket, as it kept falling off, PAST MY (then) DP's WORK COLLEAGUES, and just two weeks later I had to go to a formal meal with them all...

toofattorun · 30/05/2012 23:18

Oh my goodness!! I just peed a little bit!!

Toddle · 30/05/2012 23:21

I didn't think it would be possible but you have honestly put a smile on my face at the end of a really horrid day. Not only that but I'm now getting twingyness in my below parts Grin. I'll be mightily cheesed of if I didn't actually need my bits stretching and sweeping to within a inch of my life as this thread would have sorted it.

So YABU in having kept this to yourself for two weeks Grin

Enragia · 30/05/2012 23:24

I've been in the loft. In bra and pants a lot. ESP when hot or as when pp says you can't stand looking at it anymore.

Enragia · 30/05/2012 23:24

And ew toddle. Way tmi

bumbleymummy · 30/05/2012 23:25

Brilliant! Grin DH was wondering what I was laughing at and I've just kind of squealed it at him between snorts...I got a raised eyebrow. Clearly I didn't tell it as well as you!

QuietTiger · 30/05/2012 23:28

THanks for sharing this OP - I'm laughing so hard I can hardly breathe!

One of the funniest things I've read for a while. Thank you! Grin

ThatsDope · 30/05/2012 23:32

Omg, you read this then get to the 2nd last line and LAUGH SO LOUD and CAN'T STOP! Bless you Grin

anonacfr · 30/05/2012 23:43

'I can explain the swimming costume'!

Brilliant.

Was just BFing DD (1) and laughed so hard she half woke up from sleep-nursing and started giggling... Heh!

LucieMay · 30/05/2012 23:44

Gosh that funny... it was amusing at first... then the bit about the swimming cossie made me laugh even more... and the hairy legs bit was just the icing on the cherry! They do say it's better to be ridiculous than to be boring! Wink

DailyMailSpy · 30/05/2012 23:46

Oh dear, I'm cringing on your behalf! Cheer yourself up by popping over to the "AIBU to have carried on regardless?" thread and read some more cringeworthy stories!

ThatVikRinA22 · 30/05/2012 23:49

priceless!

sadly, the police never seem to engender the same response as firemen (or as a colleague calls them, dennis and the rock apes....long story!!)

i just get called a cunt fairly frequently.

your story will send me to bed with a smile on my face though OP. you did a good thing. honestly.

Noqontrol · 30/05/2012 23:55

Oh cardy I am sorry. That's kinda rubbish . That reminds me of my attempt to give birth at home which didn't work out. The neighbours clearly heard the screaming through the walls, and were out there watching as I was wheeled out of the house by the paramedics in one of those ambulance chair things, with the blanket slipping too Blush
