Depends on what you're doing with it

I don't care about the wee, that's tomorrow. Today, I'm enjoying making love to a large plate of the stuff, lightly steamed, and drizzled in olive oil! Grin

Love it, - I had asparagus risotto for my tea tonight (asparagus is £1 a pack in tesco at the moment).

I have the wee thing too though.

TheHonMrsP · 28/05/2012 22:50

Ugh. don't get the asparagus love. It's just ick.

CointreauVersial · 28/05/2012 22:50

Ooh yes, I'm with you there.

My dad came to stay yesterday, bearing three large bundles of Vale of Evesham's finest. For tea today I had a big pile of asparagus with some hollandaise sauce I whipped up from some leftover egg yolks. Mmmmm......

ifeellove · 28/05/2012 22:55

ooh yes asparagus omlette for tea here tonight. The wee thing is weird - I never had it until after having babies now it's stinky but I just don't care.

LuvileeJubilee · 28/05/2012 22:57

Asparagus with fresh hollandaise

Yy to serving with egg. And bits of crispy bacon.

TheHonMrsP · 28/05/2012 23:04

But, but, but it just tastes of....nothing...a bit bitter, but generally nothing. What am I missing, a special tasting gene or something??

Loshad · 28/05/2012 23:07

yes yes to asparagus and hollandaise, just yum. Sent Dh to the asparagus farm yesterday, but foolishly he went on his bike so only came back with 4lbs Hmm, will send him in car this weekend.

BumpingFuglies · 28/05/2012 23:10

Sorrreeee! Grin

FashionEaster · 28/05/2012 23:11

Fresh young asparagus lightly steamed, and then quick fried in peppered butter is the work of the gods.

SaggyCeratops · 28/05/2012 23:11

TheHon, it's not bitter! It's delicate, and sweet, and bloody delicious! Are you eating young, slender English asparagus, in season, or the imported foreign woody stuff?

OP posts:
seeker · 28/05/2012 23:13

We had it barbecued with loads of garlic and prawns last night. And tonight I made a quiche with the trimmings and leftovers. More yum than I can say.

TheHonMrsP · 28/05/2012 23:16

Proper in season farm shop locally grown stuff! Still tastes of nothing to me.

DorothyGherkins · 28/05/2012 23:18

Had loads with my meal last night and had a serving left over which went in the fridge. So I had asparagus for breakfast this morning! It was a lovely start to the day, I think I will do it again!!

ItWasABoojum · 28/05/2012 23:18

YANBU. Except about the olive oil; it has to be butter!

susiedaisy · 28/05/2012 23:19

Had some for tea tonight roasted in the oven with olive oil black pepper and salt deliciousSmile

CrispyCod · 28/05/2012 23:20

Nah, you can't beat the spud Grin

SaggyCeratops · 28/05/2012 23:25

A SPUD??? ...
How can you make love to a spud??? It has all the phallic symbolism of... Well...a potato!

OP posts:
Loshad · 28/05/2012 23:28

noo, not butter or olive oil, must be hollandaise, or if desperate mayo or french dressing

carabos · 28/05/2012 23:43

The only dressing for asparagus is a poached egg and a few Parmesan crumbs.

iklboo · 28/05/2012 23:44

Poached duck egg [drool]

Freshletticia · 28/05/2012 23:46

Mmmm, home grown, picked and straight in the pan. Unfortunately all 5 of us get asparagus wee, so the aftermath is somewhat fragrant...

stealthsquiggle · 28/05/2012 23:49

LOL at OP. Familiarity breeds contempt. Not that we don't like it, we all do, but we are surrounded by farms which grow it so, in season, it is "default vegetable". We are completely spoilt and won't eat it more than 24 hours after it is picked, though - supermarket stuff tastes "old".
