It can be divine, but YABU to wax lyrical about it.

SaggyCeratops · 29/05/2012 01:35

What is food for, if not to be passionate about??

OP posts:
BlueBirdsNest · 29/05/2012 01:40

It tastes of grass and makes your wee smell odd

rimmerfleadick · 29/05/2012 01:43

Very much so, bar the wee smell.

Was a bit pissed off in Tesco to see Local or UK produce sold along side
asparagus from Peru !!!!!

White or green?

Naice ham, white asparagus, hollondaise sauce and rosemary potatoes = heaven.

choppychopster · 29/05/2012 10:15

YANBU! Delicious with salty butter or a dippy egg (duck egg even better). I need to go and get some for lunch.

Nope - I love savoury umami stuff, but it just tastes bitter and meh. And i am a vegan - I loooove vegetables.

Except Fennel, which is just evil and shouldn't even count as a vegetable.

CremeEggThief · 29/05/2012 20:56

I was only saying to DH last weekend that asparagus is definitely over-rated.

Don't get me wrong, it's nice enough, but I don't get why some people think it's the best thing ever.
And I hate runny eggs, so telling me to dip it in egg definitely won't do the trick!

maddening · 29/05/2012 21:45

god I love asparagus - my oh is making himself and ds some with poached egg, parma ham and parmesan this week - I will just have the egg and parmesan as veggie -it is scrummy!

redwhiteandblueeyedsusan · 29/05/2012 21:46

we had some at a restaurant and I gave a bit to dd and ds... mil thought it was a waste... Angry

PoppyWearer · 29/05/2012 21:48

.

Gutted that local asparagus crop was rained off Sad.

Baby DS (9mo) is an asparagus junkie. Yes, the nappies are, ahem, fun!

Ploom · 29/05/2012 21:54

Cant decide psammead on white or green! I always under or overcook the white so have bought more green this season. But both are delicious.

mumnotmachine · 29/05/2012 21:54

Mmmmm griddled asparagus with scrambled egg with smoked salmon in- heaven on a plate!!

Sounds good with poached eggs as well...will have to try it

AllYoursBabooshka · 29/05/2012 21:55

I have never tasted it, Can you describe it?

One of those things I keep meaning to try but never remember to pick up when I'm shopping.

stealthsquiggle · 29/05/2012 21:57

MrsP you need to try properly fresh out of the field stuff - supermarket stuff is indeed bitter by comparison

SaggyCeratops · 29/05/2012 22:00

You can't describe it, you need to try it!

it's got a nice texture- bit crunchy bit juicy. That's the nice bit. Peas and beans taste better IMO.
