WIBU and very cheeky

if I asked my usual haridresser in a pretty well established salon to put in my cheap ass hair colour in her salon before I get a cut. had hand surgery so cant even brush my hair. not sure if I would be really cheeky. i would obviously pay any fee they would think is reasonable for this service on top or usual fee for haircut.

would just me mortified if they said no.

Depends entirely on the snob factor of the salon tbh

I'd ask mine no problem

I'd rather die than ask at Toni and Guy

Can a friend not do it? I get my ex hairdresser mother to do my colour before going to salon (mum lost her confidence with the scissors lol)

scuzy · 28/05/2012 20:31

i always do it myself its only a root job really 5 mins application time 20 mins to take. so i would be sitting in the salon taking up a chair before they even wash or cut my hair.

its not a chain but the most popular and best salon in town.

maybe should ring in advance and avoid the face to face embarrassment.

Hmmnn, I don't know it they'd say yes, and if they did I don't think it'd save you too much money. I reckon the cost of getting your hair coloured at the salon has a lot to do with the time it takes rather than the cost of the hair dye.

You've got a good reason, so I don't think YAB that U. But it'd be better if you could get a friend or relative to do it for you Smile.

scarletforya · 28/05/2012 20:33

I can't imagine they will say yes. If that was the case everyone would be doing it and no-one would pay for salon colours!!!

You have my sympathy though, I do my own colours at home and would be royally screwed if my hand was out of action.

Most salons I know though want to do patch tests 48 hours beforehand and wont touch your hair if they have home colours in them and all that baloney!!!

Yeahthatsnotgonnahappen · 28/05/2012 20:35

Hmm think they might say no.

why not ask a friend to do it? I'd happily do it for one of my mates

scuzy · 28/05/2012 20:36

been using this colour for years its a shop bought l'oreal one.

yeah i see your point and think the same, and wouldnt dream of it in normal circumstances.

have no one to put it in for me.

maybe should embrace my piebald look for another month and buy a hat

Noqontrol · 28/05/2012 20:38

I wouldn't think you would save that much because they would be spending quite a bit of time applying it properly to your hair. But there's no harm in asking, although bet they say no Grin

ImperialBlether · 28/05/2012 20:39

Where are you? There must be someone on here who'd be good for a home dye job!

scuzy · 28/05/2012 20:41

southern ireland IB Smile

not sure what you guys mean by the saving comments ... am prepared to pay extra for the time it takes.

slowestwildebeast · 28/05/2012 20:43

hmm, if I did that where I go they would not do it as they use a very specific plant based brand and probably would say they couldn't. Local smaller hairdressers might if it's like Audrey of Corrie?

If you live in the North East I can do it :)

Shutupanddrive · 28/05/2012 20:46

If you don't ask, you don't get! They can only say no, and you have got the excuse of having hand surgery. Go for it!

memphis83 · 28/05/2012 20:47

Our local salon charge £7 to put in a home dye, you just have to warn them in advance.

ImperialBlether · 28/05/2012 20:47

Ohhh sorry, I'm no good to you then!

WilsonFrickett · 28/05/2012 20:48

I don't think taking your own colour would mean you'd get much of a reduction, you basically pay for the service and expertise / time you spend in the chair type of thing. Only a tiny % of the charge for a colour is for the actual colour IYSWIM. And they prob won't do it in case you get allergic or something. Sorry - if you're prepared to pay why don't you just get a salon colour?

scuzy · 28/05/2012 20:49

thanks guys. think i'll go for it but ask on phone instead. they can always just say no and i'll give a fake name if they ask (my MIL she always goes there lol)

yellowraincoat · 28/05/2012 20:50

Is there anywhere you can go to get your hair done for free? A lot of places do it with student hairdressers. Worth a look, innit.

scuzy · 28/05/2012 20:50

oh no am not looking for a reduction in price i always home dye my hair for years now.

am prepared to pay MORE for the service of putting it in for me.

dont want to start salon dying my hair too expensive. i have long thick hair down my back. cost me a fortune!

OP posts:
nonapandknackered · 28/05/2012 20:51

I suppose "saving" is being mentioned as that's usually the reason for using home dyes, isn't it? I love getting my hair done at the salon but do it myself when I can't face spending a fortune on it (I'm rubbish though, our bathroom floor is a Jackson Pollack now!).

But, I had my roots done a few weeks ago and it cost hardly anything on top of the usual cut-cost (very small local salon). So you could see how much it would cost just to use theirs rather than take your own in?

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 28/05/2012 20:54

I am CERTAIN they get asked fairly often and I am CERTAIN only a nobber would mind. So ask. If she says no then you know she's a nobber and can happily find a better one.

scuzy · 28/05/2012 20:55

nobber! i love it. may i quote you should i be refused?

OP posts:
nonapandknackered · 28/05/2012 20:55

In that case OP I'd explain what you just said to the hairdresser (want to keep using the same colour and why) and say you'd pay the same as they would charge if you were having their own dye. I think it might only be health and safety reasons that would stop them from saying no then (risk of allergies etc).

tabulahrasa · 28/05/2012 20:55

I'd phone and ask.

If you tell then you usually dye it yourself but can't just now, you're willing to pay for it but you don't want to have to try and match dyes when the one you have is already what you want...the worst they can say is no and as you've offered to pay they can't moan about you asking, lol

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 28/05/2012 20:57

Scuzy yes...just ask her and then say "So...are you a nobber or not?" Grin

scuzy · 28/05/2012 21:01

ha ha ha! like that friends episode where rachel was prank calling her kids's doctor (cant spell paediatrician see?) and she starts squealing "weeeeeeinerrrrr" down the phone at him.
