if I asked my usual haridresser in a pretty well established salon to put in my cheap ass hair colour in her salon before I get a cut. had hand surgery so cant even brush my hair. not sure if I would be really cheeky. i would obviously pay any fee they would think is reasonable for this service on top or usual fee for haircut.

would just me mortified if they said no.

I used to work in a snobby bitchy high end salon and something like this would not be taken kindly and probably gossiped about in the lunch room (where no-one ate anything 'cept ryvita)

Wrong attitude IMO but that is how these places usually are.

well looks like insurance wont cover them if i have an allergic reaction despite telling them am using this dye for years now. was worth a shot.

nobbers!

My hairdresser does this...she offered, I didn't have to ask.

She only charges an extra fiver.

Years ago I worked in two different salons myself and they always did this too.

Sometimes they let the Junior put it on just for some experience.

scuzy · 29/05/2012 09:51

its just really annoyed me. i am having a bad day. hand killing me pain killers interfering with my anti ds so not getting full dose for a week now and feel manky.

i always feel better with my hair done and just wanted a lift.

but i see their point.

I had a feeling they'd give a reason like that.

Why not get it all done at the salon, just this once? It'll definitely make you feel better Smile

Booboostoo · 29/05/2012 21:39

Sorry they can't help you hope you find someone who can, but just worth mentioning that you should always do a 48hr patch test regardless of whether you have used this dye before or not. Allergies can develop over time and you can become allergic to a product you've used for ages (the allergy is to PPD which is found in almost all permanent hair dyes, in higher concentrations in dark colours - it's rare but can be life threatening).

UphillBothWays · 30/05/2012 00:45

I'm sure a mobile hairdresser would be willing to help out quite cheaply :) try googling

Hope you feel cheerier in the morning, anti d changes are awful, I know.

scuzy · 30/05/2012 01:09

thanks guys! i feel better tonight had sleep today. still look like a boiled shite so am going to attempt it myself tomorrow.

booboo didnt know that. would prob touch up every 2-3 months same colour for donkeys years now would cry if they discontinued it.

was worth a try and the recpetionist even double checked with the owner and phoned me back so cant fault them.

tbh would rather spend the money on something else would cost at least 100 euro to get a colour done of my hair its so long.

thanks again :-)

If you are anywhere near Drogheda I'll do it!

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 30/05/2012 01:16

I'm actually more upset that you don't have a single friend you feel you could ask to do this for you :( Are you sure you aren't just being too 'English'??

scuzy · 30/05/2012 01:29

how do i sound english?? hanging around here too much i reckon.

i cant even drive so would be too much to ask someone, the hassle and they are either working or have kids and it aint life or death.

OP posts:
scuzy · 30/05/2012 01:29

thanks cestout but no where near there Smile

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 30/05/2012 01:48

Well, I should say, I haven't noticed you using any particularly 'Irish turns of phrase' :) More than you sound 'English' :)

I would happily do it for a friend, colleague, random MNer and wouldn't mind driving to you (well if you lived closer - Ireland is a little far from the SE of England!!).... but if you'd rather have roots than ask - you are definitely English! Grin

One handed hair dye job??

ParsleyTheLioness · 30/05/2012 07:31

I once asked this becuase they started using a salon colour that turned out brown instead of auburn. Then insisted it was in fact auburn (it wasn't) they refused to let me use my own colour (insurance?) and I had to go somewhere else to get the colour I wanted... So, what I am saying is, there might be an insurance issue. And most salons insist on a patch test...

scuzy · 30/05/2012 14:41

well be jaysus (for Chippings benefit Smile) i managed to do it myself. took ages but feel soooooo much better. thanks for the replies guys. i feel human again.
