to think that Morrisons should give me my debit card back so I'm not stranded!

Earlier today, while my 6mo was screaming, I stupidly left my debit card in Morrisons.

I have paid for train tickets to take myself and DD home from my parents house (we were here as dd had a hospital appointment local to my parents) tomorrow. You need to have the debit card you paid with to claim the train tickets.

I went to retrieve my debit card and was asked for ID, unfortunatley I left my passport/bills etc at my house (2 hours drive away) so could not provide any. Without my debit card I cannot get our train tickets.

I suggested I tell them everything I bought on that debit card in Morrisons today - the customer service lady went to get her manager.

He said no.

I suggested I log onto my internet banking on their computer as only I would know all of the passwords so this would prove I was me.

He said no. (They can't access internet)

I suggested they call Halifax Bank (therefore it's definately the bank) and I give them all of my security info (enough so that I could transfer all of my money) and they would confirm I am the owner of the debit card.

He said no.

I've called Halifax and they are happy for him to call them and they'll confirm my identity but the manager will not budge.

I know I shouldn't have left the card in the first place but I am stranded and have offered many alternatives but the manager just won't bend to help a once loyal customer.

Sorry about your card.

You can put any debit card into a Fastticket machine at a Virgin train station, so I imagine you can do it for other train companies. This would be the logical thing to do if you have another debit card- you can use your mums or partners.

Before I get jumped on by people saying I'm encouraging fraud, I'm just saying what I've done so she can get home without shelling out for another ticket, not advocating nicking a card!

Have you talked to Morrisons Customer service or HQ yet OP?

Update:

My Mum paid for a new train ticket so I am now home.

We have sent a letter of complaint to Morrisons HQ - I'll let you know if we receive a reply.

According to Halifax the card has not yet been returned to them.

People have asked if I would be mad if Morrisons had given my card to someone else:

-Someone else could not have proven their identity to Halifax on the phone as they would not know all of my passwords etc.

-If my card was not at Morrisons I would have cancelled it straight away.

Also, can you actually buy anything with a card nowadays without knowing either the PIN (for cash machines and stores), Billing Address (for telephone purchases) or Verified by Visa Password (for internet purchases)?

Glad you got home OP. Do let us know when you get a response from Morrisons.

When i used to work in a supermarket and a bank card was left behind the cashier received £50 from the bank for returning the card to them, everyone who had a card that was either stolen which we confiscated or left behind by a customer loved it cos it was extra money for them
