to loathe those weird shoes with the rocking bit on the sole?

You know, the Skechers/MBT/whatever ones that claim to firm up your bottom by making you wobble around on the soles of your shoes. I am seeing more and more of them these days.

They are the Toyota Prius of the shoe world: barbarous to look at and of spurious actual benefit. AIBU to loathe them?

I don't like the look of the Fitflops. Even uglier than crocs, in my opinion.

And, I haven't done a proper study or anything, but by observing people wearing them I'm not sure that they work very well! Otherwise everyone wearing them would be skinny, right?

Noqontrol · 28/05/2012 22:25

I think they're really ugly, but I guess if people find them comfortable and they sort out back problems etc, then that's more important.

Devora · 28/05/2012 22:29

Fit Flops are bloody ugly, but another one here whose life has been transformed by them. They are SO comfortable, and the pain in my knees has almost gone since I started wearing them.

I've still got a huge arse, though.

FashionEaster · 28/05/2012 22:30

Pointy, can I ask what do you wear for work/for more formal occasions? A pair of fitflops at my workplace won't cut it.

Devora · 28/05/2012 22:31

M&S wannabe Fitflops are not as good, but they are half the price.

Purple2012 · 28/05/2012 22:32

I have fit flops and I love them. They are the only flip flops I can keep on my feet. I struggle with others as I keep my toes curled in to keep them on. I don't think that by wearing fit flops I am toning up though. I think they look nice too and are not ugly

WetAugust · 28/05/2012 22:49

Are Fitflops true to size? I'm a broad-footed size 4 who sometimes has to buy 5's to get the width. Should I order a Size 4?

Purple2012 · 28/05/2012 22:52

If you go onto the fit flops website they have a guide you can print off and see what size you are, a bit like the sizing on insoles where you cut to the right size

catgirl1976 · 28/05/2012 22:56

It's because of social conditioning.

I have some in my wardrobe once. I wore them once and they felt decidly unsafe so have not tried them since

GwendolineMaryLacey · 28/05/2012 23:00

That's the second thread since I logged on two minutes ago where I've read a couple of the posts and thought the posters sounded like wankers. Time for bed I guess Hmm

LaWobble · 28/05/2012 23:02

I just looked on the MBT website and it says the company went into administration on 17th May.

Are you all proud of yourselves now MBT haters? Wink

WetAugust · 28/05/2012 23:23

Thanks Purple

GrumpyCrossPatch · 28/05/2012 23:29

YABU. I love my fugly Skechers Tone Ups. 12 hour (and the rest...) shifts in A&E now pass painlessly as they keep my plantar fasciitis under control. I admit that I probably look a bit of a tit mind....

LackaDAISYcal · 28/05/2012 23:40

I have been wearing my fitflops for three days now and my arch and knee pain have all but disappeared (also suffer from weird connective tissue disorders). I can wear my orthotics in closed in shoes, but sandals have been out for the last couple of years without causing immense pain.

I am considering a pair of fitflop trainers and also boots.

And am also under no illusion that they will tone my fat arse and cankles; only diet & exercise will do that!

madmomma · 29/05/2012 07:16

hahaha I knew it'd turn into an MBT love-in!

PrematurelyAirconditioned · 29/05/2012 07:25

Oh it's a shame that MBTs are in administration. I had a pair to help with my iffy knees and they really helped, despite being a bit aesthetically challenged.

I read an interview with the bloke who developed them in New Scientist and he seemed great - he was very clear on the orthopaedic benefits and his research, but essentially admitted that the claim that they'd make your arse thinner was made up by Marketting.

OTheHugeManatee · 29/05/2012 09:35

I started a FitFlop love-in by mistake!

LOL at "I don't want a label on my shoes saying "I think I have a big arse and that makes me sad"

BikeRunSki · 29/05/2012 09:42

Viva, I keep bumping into you on so many threads agreeing with me, or what I am thinking, that I think that you are actually me.

I have mbts ans fitflop trainers. Mtb have helped tone legs but fitflop are better looking.

Mittzopachycephalosaurus · 29/05/2012 09:45

I love my FitFlops for pottering but the toe post shreds my feet to buggery if I actually walk anywhere in them!

The rocking shoes have done wonders for my Plantar Fasciitis on the other hand. (Or the other foot)
Have some Puma ones that I consider to be quite stylish and make my leg quite shapely.

Devora · 29/05/2012 14:28

I have found that not all Fitflops are equal. Some are way more comfortable than others, so I always try on before I buy.

zlist · 29/05/2012 15:45

I wear MBTs (to work - involves a lot of standing up). They look awful but I am now pain-free. I have two other colleagues who wear them for the same reason - we all agree they look shit but not to have a regular bad back/sore feet means it is just worth it. No, I don't think they do anything for toning but that isn't why I have them.

BarredfromhavingStella · 29/05/2012 17:29

I have the Reebok easytone flip-flops & don't think they're ugly at all, they just look like flip-flops-the trainers do look a little odd though.

Abzs · 29/05/2012 17:39

The massive wedge of EVA foam in the sole of my Skechers is great for standing on for an eight hour shift on the concrete shop floor.

Mittzopachycephalosaurus · 29/05/2012 17:43

I run an ironing business and also find them great for being on my feet for long periods Smile
