To think 8.30 on a Sunday morning is too early for DIY?

New neighbours just moved in and they started scraping walls and hammering at 8.30 this morning. Weekdays wouldn't bother me. Saturdays wouldn't really bother me that much but surely Sunday is the one day you should be able to have a lie-in? Personally I wouldn't do anything noisy until 10.00am at the earliest.

8.30am wouldn't bother me cos dc up already and we're awake.

Don't think it's too bad.

i try and keep noise to a minimal till after 9am at the wkends, we are always up before then, children! BUT i dont let them play out in the garden etc as i appreciate other people may well not be up early on the wkend, same goes for mowing grass etc, its just courteous i think? :)

Hey, I don't have a garden so I'm so I'm not out strimming.

I haven't got young kids playing out either.

I get up and read in the morning or go out on my bike.
All I'm saying is it doesn't bother me if neighbours want to get on with their chores before it gets too hot or so that they have the rest of the day to do what they want.

I think YABa little bit U.
What if it was a job that needed 8 hours drying out time in the middle or something? Maybe a friend or relative is helping and can only come for that day, etc.

I hope it's a one-off though Smile Let's face it, if they've just moved in there's probably a few things they want to change or get straight.

Aaargh. This drives me nuts. We used to have a neighbour 'Mr Yaris' as we called him, who used to wash and hoover his Yaris right outside our window at about 8.30 - so I feel for you. The 'neeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhh' of his dustbuster for 20 mins was like having a mosquito in the room.

Personally, I think 9am is ok for a saturday and sunday morning for anything 'intentionally noisy' when you have close neighbours - ie hoovering/mowing/kids in garden screeching etc.
I don't think I'd say anything, but I might make a 'gosh - you sounded busy this morning' if it came up, just so they know that you were woken by it.

half eight really isn't that early - if its a rare occurrance then YABU for all the reasons others have said. If you really can't cope with noise then you need to find a detached house, otherwise, its all about compromise.

BackforGood · 27/05/2012 23:14

I think the difference is, if it's a one off job that they've just got to get out of the way - like OPs neighbours, or if they are just generally selfish and unwilling to find some kind of compromise, like Bats.

yellowraincoat · 27/05/2012 23:15

God, yes it's too early. Can't believe anyone would think otherwise. What job is that urgent?

DrCoconut · 28/05/2012 13:56

DIY on a sunny Sunday is wholly U if you ask me. I'd prefer to be somewhere nice with a nice cool drink Grin (TIC of course)
