Yes yes to security guard who told a bare chested guy he could not come in without a shirt on

No no to the reason he gave 'It's health and safety'

Confused

Our Tesco have a sign outside saying shirts to be worn and ladies must have more than a bikini top on. It is a good idea because you dont really want to be leaning over the cold meats and end up with a bare chest and armpit in your face!!

WhiteWidow · 25/05/2012 20:51

Some people really do need to cover up in public places though

StrawberrytallCAKE · 25/05/2012 20:52

yabu, sweaty soaked apples anyone?

AmIthatbad · 25/05/2012 20:53

Totally agree GetDown

yes, he was right to tell him he couldn't come in.

But feck knows what it is to do with Health & Safety. Real Health & Safety I mean. Angry

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 25/05/2012 20:54

What do you think the security guard should have said though, bearing in mind that he had to try and convince the idiot that thought it was acceptable to go around Tesco withnoshort on?

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 25/05/2012 20:55

Withnoshort? You know what I mean Blush

Princesslovelyboo · 25/05/2012 20:57

I dont suppose the security guard can say 'your an ugly swaety bloater please for gods sake and decency put some bloody clothes on because your moobs will scare small children and the elderly' Grin

Aperolspritzer · 25/05/2012 20:58

they should also ban the wearing of pyjamas in the shops

ivykaty44 · 25/05/2012 20:59

'It's health and safety'

I agree - it is bad for my health to see as it may give me sleepless nights

it is not safe for my dd to see as it may give her nightmares

I think it is spot on

NorbertDentressangle · 25/05/2012 21:00

I can see why Tesco do it as I can imagine (judging by some of the sights I've seen this week) that customers are probably put off their food by acres of flesh that really are best kept to the confines of beaches, gardens etc (therefore less profit for Mr Tesco) Wink

GetDownNesbitt · 25/05/2012 21:01

To be fair, he wasn't fat or sweaty...

Why not just say 'put a shirt on, we don't want to look at your chest'

OP posts:
misslinnet · 25/05/2012 21:01

Ridiculous to claim that a no bare chest policy has got anything to do with health and safety.

In fact you could claim that they're endangering his health by forcing him to stay out in the sun without a top on, thus increasing his risk of sunburn....

They should just say that Tesco has a dress code, imposed by the management, if you don't meet it you can't come in. And if you don't like it, feel free to write in and complain.

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 25/05/2012 21:03

So what if a guy doesn't have a shirt on? Or if a woman only has a bikini top on?

Some people need to get out more if this is an issue.

jazzchickens · 25/05/2012 21:06

They'll be asking us to wear hairnets to go shopping next.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 25/05/2012 21:07

I think it is an issue..I get out loads!

hotheels · 25/05/2012 21:14

Reminds me of something the other day, was sat at traffic lights next to Greg's and a woman went in in her bikini!! Shock

DuffyMoon · 25/05/2012 21:16

Tesco should just say because its common...thats reason enough

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 25/05/2012 21:17

He could burn himself on a cooked ham from the deli...those things are lethal!

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 25/05/2012 21:19

Given the amount of packaging on most of the stuff in Tesco's I couldn't care less if they let people in stark naked. It might amuse the children and stop them bickering long enough for us to actually do a bit of shopping Grin

DrCoconut · 25/05/2012 21:21

Some of the sights I've seen round here in the heatwave have not been pretty at all! I'm no twiggy but I realise it and don't go round in tiny shorts and bikini top thank goodness say the neighbours or mini dresses. You see people dressed as if they were at the beach to go round town or the supermarkets. It's inappropriate. I'm not suggesting we should all wear burkas but there must be a happy medium.

BarefootShirl · 25/05/2012 21:25

Tesco brought in a "dress code" a couple of years ago apparently to prevent shirtless men, bikini tops, PJs and bare feet. Have to say though that I have often gone in to my local Tesco superstore without shoes and have never been stopped so I don't know how strictly it is enforced.

AmIthatbad · 25/05/2012 22:23

misslinnet I love you Grin. You talk sense

I saw a guy in our local Co-Op a few weeks ago in pyjamas, at half two in the afternoon. As I walked past him and looked back, I then noticed the arse was ripped out of the pyjamas. Thankfully he had pants on.

Icelollycraving · 26/05/2012 06:56

Well if they had an offer on chicken thighs, the sight of pale clammy skin can be a leetle off putting :o
