The 'TOWIE' look is tarty

SirSugar · 23/05/2012 17:57

trowelled on makeup, huge fake hair, pneumatic bosoms and ridiculous wedges.

What is so attractive about it, I just don't get it or am I missing something

Can people please throw in a definitive AIBU so I know how to properly respond?!

ViviPru · 23/05/2012 18:04

The word 'tarty' can only be heard in my head in a Scottish accent.

Gapants · 23/05/2012 18:05

Bit unsisterly to say "tarty" non?

SirSugar · 23/05/2012 18:06

Is tarty not PC?

ENormaSnob · 23/05/2012 18:11

If they're happy and not hurting anyone, who cares.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 23/05/2012 18:13

chat rather than AIBU?

IAmBooybilee · 23/05/2012 18:16

tarty meaning you think they look like prostitutes?

RandomNumbers · 23/05/2012 18:26

Nah leave em alone

Did you nevair follow fasshun as a youngster?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/05/2012 18:51

Oh, no they make my fecking eyes bleed.
I've never watched it, but the previews are always on, I caught 30 long seconds of it once. They are forever in the papers

My 10 yo DD laughs at a film called Geek Charming on Disney Channel (it's a modern update of 'Clueless' sort of)

But, TOWIE is a Real Life Geek Charming. They are as shallow as puddles.
I'm hoping they are offski before my DD falls under their spell Hmm

somedayma · 23/05/2012 19:18

yabu. Leave em alone. Not hurting anyone and certainly not affecting your life in any way. It really pisses me off that women are so quick to look down their noses at other women because of how they dress

akaemmafrost · 23/05/2012 19:20

I think some of them look stunning. Too much like hard work though. I wear false eyelashes about once a year and it takes me about an hour to put them.

SugarBatty · 23/05/2012 19:25

I LOVE it! They seem to have lots of disposable income to spend on themselves. If I had money to burn and a figure like theirs I'd join them!

so yabu but I can see how some people don't like it.

If everybody looked the same we would get tired of looking at each other or some cheesy line like that. Grin

diabolo · 23/05/2012 19:35

Who cares? Far too much like hard work for me - a dash of lipstick and off I go.

I think it is important to never judge a book by its cover. One of the cleverest women I know looks like a total tart, huge fake boobs (on permanent display), very short skirts, lots of leopard print, bling everywhere, but the sharpest most astute mind I have ever come across.

Live and let live.

qazxc · 23/05/2012 19:36

i don't get that look either.
don't think it looks nice, more of a cross between barbie and blow up doll.
The amount of time and money (let alone surgery) to get the look is bonkers.
I worry that little girls would want to emulate it because of the glitter and pink and not understand about the sexual element / unhealthy aspect of it. (don't get me started how playboy merchandise being aimed at children is Angry)

HillyWallaby · 23/05/2012 19:41

I like ridiculous wedges.

The rest, not so much.

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 23/05/2012 19:49

The only thing I hate is now whenever I say I'm from Essex people always say "SHU' UUUUUUUP!" in a really annoying accent that is nothing like my own...

PorkyandBess · 23/05/2012 19:52

I have only seen about 10 minutes of this show, but I was shocked at the women and how grotesque they had made themselves.

One woman in particular had a very suspect set of teeth - huge great things. Obviously. If they're her own, I feel bad for her, but they looked very fake and ridiculous.

Petisa · 23/05/2012 19:57

YANBU I hate the blow up porn doll look and all it represents. But I don't hate the girls themselves, if that's what they like to look like let them get on with it.

SodoffBaldrick · 23/05/2012 20:10

It's an odd, contrived look, sort of like a costume. Certainly the amount, colour and application of the make-up is like theatre make-up (which has to be seen from the stage by people seated way up in the stalls).

But if they like it then that's all the matters.

I'm sort of torn between wanting to support their ability to express themselves however they see fit, and disappointed (for want of a better word) that they (the women) feel the need to alter themselves quite to completely (hair, skin colour, nail length, eyelash length, breasts, other plastic surgery) and hide behind so much - levels of make-up, costumery, etc.

sparkle12mar08 · 23/05/2012 20:17

It just makes them look as thick as pig shit...

Pocketrocket11 · 23/05/2012 21:15

It's not a look I would go for but each to their own really.
However from other pictures I have seen, they don't dress like that 24/7, I think they do it for the show and when they know they're going to be photographed. I've seen pictures of them wearing flats and leggings and t-shirts with no make up on.

weaselbudge · 23/05/2012 21:32

The big teeth aren't real Porky, neither are the lips, ears or boobs (i used to know her) - and she's not from essex either. But she's a clever girl.

EclecticShock · 23/05/2012 21:38

If you mean tarty as...
Like a tart (promiscuous woman); slutty, whorish.
en.wiktionary.org/wiki/tarty

Then yabu, each to their own.

BasilDonna · 23/05/2012 21:43

I do wonder sometimes how I would like like all done up in the TOWIE look. Wine
I'll be quite a challenge though.
I think the nail salon girl will run screaming...for starters.

FreudianSlipper · 23/05/2012 21:43

they look like they are trying too hard and cheap no matter what they are wearing and all look the same

and that accent, why do you want to sound stupid and like and old woman, eeevveeerrryyy wwwwoooorrrdddd iiiissss ddddrrrraaaagggeeedddd oooouuuuutttt in a whiny voice
