The 'TOWIE' look is tarty

trowelled on makeup, huge fake hair, pneumatic bosoms and ridiculous wedges.

What is so attractive about it, I just don't get it or am I missing something

Slating their accent is a bit ridiculous... There are a multitude of accents all over the world... Do they deserve slating too. Mn displays so much tolerance sometimes, it's heartwarming... It really is.

jkismyhero · 23/05/2012 21:53

weasel are you talking about Chloe or Lauren Pope? Or neither?

RulersMakeBadLovers · 23/05/2012 21:55

What do you mean by "tarty"?

AutumnSummers · 23/05/2012 22:00

YABU. You don't find the look attractice so you struggle to see why others would. Simply, attractiveness and tartiness are subjective and, to add to that, confidence given off by people who FEEL attractive IS attractive.

Everyone should just dress to please themselves because we all have our indivudual styles and, no matter what that style, there'll be someone who thinks on it negatively. Just as there will be others who won't.

I don't don the look personally but I don't make sweeping assumptions about those who do.

Noqontrol · 23/05/2012 22:12

The accent isn't actually put on Freudianslipper. All accents are different and it's just what you're born with / brought up with. It's a bit sad to take the piss out of someone's accent imo. Hmm

FreudianSlipper · 23/05/2012 22:19

i have lived in essex and i know not all have this accent (and that they do not represent everyone that lives in essex) and i do think it is exaggerated by many to sound girly. i have known women to suddenly slip it to that whiny girly i am so cute accent and it is annoying and i think it sounds horrible

EclecticShock · 23/05/2012 22:22

Well, we have very different experiences of living in Essex and i suppose everyone who speaks the queens English is not trying in any way?

Noqontrol · 23/05/2012 22:24

I'm from Essex, there's plenty that don't speak in that accent and plenty that do, particularly near the London borders. As a born and bred Brentwood girl I know that accent well and it's not put on.

SaggyCeratops · 23/05/2012 22:27

It's not just a look though, is it. It's a whole lifestyle. They're like an entirely different species. And I speak as an 'Essex Girl' before anyone says anything. I find the whole 'Essex' thing terribly shallow and embarrassing. Why would anyone want to sound like they don't have two brain cells to rub together, and look like an orange hooker?

takingiteasy · 23/05/2012 22:29

Meh

FreudianSlipper · 23/05/2012 22:29

well hey i am from south london take the piss out of the accent as much as you like others often do

the whole show is a piss take is it not? am i missing something

i am sorry that i offended you

Noqontrol · 23/05/2012 22:30

Well you can't do much about the accent but I wouldn't do the orange thing. But each to their own and all that. Brentwood did used to have a fab goth punk thing going on years ago but alas it's all towie stuff now. (the punk and goths still had that accent though)

Noqontrol · 23/05/2012 22:33

Oh Freudian I don't know if it's a piss take or not. The people are really there living the towie thing. But I can't let you take the piss out of the accent when I own it myself Wink

FreudianSlipper · 23/05/2012 22:37

sorry :)

FrillyMilly · 23/05/2012 22:39

I think they look ridiculous and everyone says each to their own but what makes them feel the need to dress like this? They look like (are?) glamour models and I think it's sad that women feel they need fake hair, fake tan, fake eyelashes, fake boobs, fake teeth, fake lips, Botox especially at such a young age. Most of the women on it are in their early 20s but look about ten years older.

Noqontrol · 23/05/2012 22:40

No worries Freudian Smile must take elocution lessons Grin

Beamur · 23/05/2012 22:42

(Closet Essex girl here too)
TOWIE makes me laugh. It's silly and fun. The look is as fake as you like, but I reckon the accents are real.
Saying that, I was at school in Essex and it was not the done thing to go to school without a face full of slap. My parents moved to Yorkshire and it was a whole new world! I saved a fortune in foundation.

Noqontrol · 23/05/2012 22:52

You're right Beamur. You could NOT go to school without a face full of slap, lol. That brings back memories of fighting to get to the mirror in the girls toilets, brandishing blue eyeliner and bright pink lipstick. I moved up to Yorkshire for a while too, it was so liberating to Just Be Me! I don't touch the stuff these days, it's fab.

MrsBucketxx · 23/05/2012 22:56

hhhmm its too much like hard work. they all have no responsibility at all. not what i would call tarty though YABU

and i have what you lot would call "fake" teeth i have horrid natural teeth really twisted and nasty so i got them fixed and they look natural.

what ever her name is, has a massive over bite that needs correcting it has nothing to do with her veneers.

redpanda13 · 23/05/2012 23:10

I read wedges as wedgies and for a moment thought I need to watch TOWIE. Then I realised it was a shoe style and not what the boys in my school used to do to each other.

hatesponge · 23/05/2012 23:17

Cannot bear people - women mainly, oddly- who feel entitled to label women as sluts/tarts because of how they dress and the make up they wear.

I love false eyelashes and hugely high heels, and I happen to come from Essex. I also have an Oxbridge degree. Ever heard the saying about not judging a book by it's cover? Hmm

EclecticShock · 23/05/2012 23:18

Agree with hatesponge

Hownoobrooncoo · 24/05/2012 00:18

We all have an opinion but I think they look awful, don't find it attractive at all. It's the fact that they spend so much time and money to look ...well, awful.

Essex has the highest rate of graduates per head of population than any other county in the UK. True fact.
