to understand why newbies feel unwelcome when there's a certain group of people on here that think mumsnet is all about them?

I really do understand why there is a 'flouncers corner' on this site and I understand why people feel the need to go to it!
Six months ago I joined this site and on my first ever thread there was about 10 people who all clearly knew eachother and started their own conversation and completely ignored me! I felt really unwelcome but just thought it was a one off. Ever since then I've begun to realise that its like school on here and theres the 'popular' group who seem to think that everyone should know who they are and so they just hijack everyone elses thread and talk amongst themselves ignoring other people in the process! I was even in a thread yesterday and there was a discussion and one of the popular ones said something along the lines of ' oh its jack, havent seen you for a while, hows your dad?'
To me that was rude and if you know eachother that well then shouldn't you be emailing or private messaging instead of being so rude? I can honestly say I have said something regarding to what the OP was asking and been completely ignored by what send like the usual lot talking about scones or something Hmm
Another thing which I hate is all the private jokes flying around which is between the usual lot and no one else. Fanjo??? Grow up!
The only time people seem to get noticed is when they have changed their name to something like one of the popular peoples names! Remember the whole 'whos impersonating sue's thing yesterday??? seems like thats all people cared about as yiu are sooo popular so

Hi, can I speak as a Newbie if I've only been here for 5 months? I think truthful has made some good points but I also think the sensible replies she has received from the oldies have also made good points.

I was recommended AIBU by a friend as she said it was hilarious. I've never really done forums b4 so didn't have any expectations. On the whole, I like MN and have enjoyed using the site. However, I was outed, which made a difficult situation in RL a lot worse Sad Blush It's been emotional!

I have agreed with truthful on some threads - the OP asks for help or support and does get some but then the thread wanders off into some private, little bit cliquey jokes. I think oldies should maybe remember they could be seen as ambassadors and representatives of MN? That people will judge the site by their comments if they are very frequent posters?

But I have also seen threads where MNetters have really helped someone, a stranger to them, and made a real difference which I think is brilliant. Smile

I'm new and have lurked and then dived in - YABU

I actually like the fact that some posters are here all the time it gives a great sense of being part of a bigger group, yes they have in jokes, but just keep up, read the threads and dig a bit deeper into the history of the site read classics and get the swing of things??

My RL has changed a little bit since reading mumsnet, seriously, I now have zillions of Method products dotted round my house thanks to one post about luxury items, I'm hooked, I use cleaning wipes with gay abandon, I now know that I can undo my double knot laces with one pull, and have purchased goose down duvets!!

Mumsnet is an expensive hobby.

And all sorts of other snippets of information that I have learnt... and I know to read a post all the way through before commenting.

Just stick with it, I'm sure it will be fine Grin

YourFanjoIsNotAHandbag · 23/05/2012 12:18

And no one ignored you on your first ever thread but we can't stay on the same topic for 6 months, it will get a bit boring.

By the way I just went to sainsbury on my lunch break to buy scones-they dont have any??

WTAF

I am going to complain.

And I feel my contribution to this thread is being ignored I feel very sad Grin

Flightty · 23/05/2012 12:19

I get what you mean OP

I really do

there are some right f*ckers on here who just seem to think they're really important and can trample on other people's threads/conversations - though more usually, that doesn't happen and people are polite and respectful.

It does happen sometimes though. I don't mind the asides - sometimes a small hijack is totally ok - but the rudeness is out of order

truthful · 23/05/2012 12:19

Youve got it in one OAM!

I've found your thread for you, truthful - I can link to it if you like but won't unless you say so.

You did a lovely intro 'I'm new here' thread asking how best to use the site, - I thought you were enjoying it, so sorry if you felt uncomfortable on that thread - I honestly think posters thought you were up for a bit of banter, that's all, - as that what it seemed to me too, - it is easy to misread tone from 'words on a screen' and all.

OhChristFENESTROSAURUS · 23/05/2012 12:24

I've been here about two years too, I feel like an oldie. but not as old as Maryz

LadyBeagleEyes · 23/05/2012 12:24

Does no one around here make their own scones any more.Shock?

Pinot · 23/05/2012 12:24

Oh OP you have been very welcomed from what I've seen. I remember your opening newbie thread, and your thread where you namechanged to PMT. You joined in with the banter then - why whinge about it now?

I don't agree at all that MN isn't welcoming. I've only been here since Jan 2011, I watched alot of banter, wanted to join in... so I did. It's really not rocket science.

MN threads aren't strict and seriously tethered to the original OP. They flow. It's what makes most MNers love MN the most I would say.

MN is lovely - or can be lovely when people stop the fucking moaning and just have a bloody laugh.

Christ. If arseholes had wings this place would be a fucking airport at the moment.

AND my knickers are uncomfortable.

DeWe · 23/05/2012 12:25

Hully's waving her MN flag as a true ambassador, I see. Grin

OhChristFENESTROSAURUS · 23/05/2012 12:25

Yes, you were being silly - now STOP IT!

Smile
LtEveDallas · 23/05/2012 12:26

I second Hully's

*hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

No thanks*

With a not on your fucking nelly I am no-ones ambassador (well, maybe the Queens...) and on MN I like being me. If people don't like me...meh

OhChristFENESTROSAURUS · 23/05/2012 12:26

Pinot, you sound uncharacteristically grumpy today, - is it just about your knickers, love?

YourFanjoIsNotAHandbag · 23/05/2012 12:27

Christ. If arseholes had wings this place would be a fucking airport at the moment.

Quote of the day??

LadyBeagleEyes · 23/05/2012 12:27

What type of knickers are you wearing, Pinot?
M & S high legs or midis for me, they're never uncomfortable.

truthful · 23/05/2012 12:27
