Babies in leather jackets or jeans?

I have just seen a 2 week old baby in jeans, trainers and a leather jacket. Isn't that going to be a bit uncomfortable? Trainers? they'll come in useful and don't get me started on the Harley Davidson jacket...

My DS was very long and I kept buying sleep suits in the next size up thinking they would fit for a while but after a week or two he's outgrown them again so when he outgrew 6-9 months ones at 8 weeks old I gave up and put him in clothes and pyjamas at night.

He's 18 months now and graduated to a suit and tie Wink

NarkedPuffin · 22/05/2012 17:55

It looks ridiculous and always makes me a little Hmm about the parents, but it doesn't do the child any harm.

NarkedPuffin · 22/05/2012 17:57

Is it possible that you have created a new breed of super baby?

NarkedPuffin · 22/05/2012 17:58

Not clothes generally, but leather jackets, mini adult type clothes.

FeakAndWeeble · 22/05/2012 17:58

DS is still in 3-6mo trousers and he's 14mo now Sad

But his head is enromous, so he has a 2-3 sun hat

FeakAndWeeble · 22/05/2012 17:59

He is also cute by the way. He doesn't look like a 3 month old with an enormous head. I hope

CockyPants · 22/05/2012 18:12

Leather jacket? trainers? Jeans?
That's what I call tacky and showing off how little taste the parents have. Chav tastic...
Babygros all the way!!

HaplessHousewife · 22/05/2012 18:16

Grin NarkedPuffin

He's big, 91st centile, but not particularly enormous. He did also outgrow his moses basket at about 7 weeks (which DD was in until nearly 5 months ? exactly the same birth weight!).

I think his legs were long when he was not so little as the bodysuits (vests with poppers) seemed to fit better for his age.

He does wear age 2 clothes at 18 months but that's not that unusual and that's for the width more than the length as I have to fold the trousers up a bit.

VonHerrBurton · 22/05/2012 18:24

Hmm. Don't like any type of trainer, soft or otherwise, until they're walking properly. Even then I hate hate hate black trainers on little boys, I don't know why. Still have a lingering issue with black trainers and he's nearly 10. Leather jacket/jeans combo - ugh. Personal taste though innit, like...

My friends adorable ds has been trussed up in black Lacoste trainers, Burberry jumpers, D & G jeans etc since he was teeny tiny. She thought it looked super-cute.

lola88 · 22/05/2012 19:32

My ds has 3 pairs of trainers :) he wears then in his baby carrier coz his wee feet get cold with just socks hanging there.

but i'm always being accused of dressing my little boy like a little boy not a baby so i'm prob abnormal

Trestle · 22/05/2012 19:35

I think sleepsuits look more comfortable - plenty of time for other clothes later. I got judgy comments from some nasty competitive mums about not moving on from sleepsuits early enough (this was well before 6 months!)

BlackOutTheSun · 22/05/2012 19:37

I'm jealous, I had loads of little outfits for dd even a cow one , but 1) she was massive 2) she had really bad reflux and babygrows were alot easier to dry

TheUnMember · 22/05/2012 19:37

My baby still wears sleepsuits and she's 19. Wish she'd start wearing jeans and leather.

Flisspaps · 22/05/2012 19:39

DS wears jeans most days. He's 5wo.

Bit hot for a leather jacket today though...

I don't like hairbands on babies though OP...Wink

IKilledIgglePiggle · 22/05/2012 19:42

Only lovely soft sleepy suits for the first two months or so and then go nuts, my DSs were always in bright primary colored dungers and funky bright jeans, never ever ever tracksuit bottoms, hate em, although they have them now they are older.

I loved dressing them and I'm now having fun dressing my 17 mo DD, I know people like to slag off the ole Boden but my oh my tis' lovely for little girls.....she has spent today dessed like a red haired bumble bee.

Inadeeptrance · 22/05/2012 20:14

I have never met anyone in real life who just dresses their baby in babygros', to me it felt lazy and I felt better when they were 'dressed'. Besides putting babies in cute little outfits is part of the fun, surely?

misslinnet · 22/05/2012 20:15

DS has been in jeans or dungarees most days since he was 3 months old. The ones he's got are nice soft fabric so comfy for him.

I don't think babies should be wearing proper shoes until they're walking though, I think it's bad for their feet.

Trestle · 22/05/2012 20:23

I didn't find it "fun" trying to wrestle more complicated outfits onto a small baby. And it wasn't "laziness" but more just what I thought would be most comfortable for the baby, regardless of trying to please others. I just couldn't see the point in dressing up a baby like a doll. Whose benefit is it for?

Mrsjay · 22/05/2012 20:27

I dressed mine in babygros not till they were 16 though Grin I guess they can dress their babies how they want but i think jackets like that on tiny babies never look comfy or cute or nice ,

chocoroo · 22/05/2012 20:28

I started "dressing" DD around 4 weeks I think. She's always had jeans, usually soft ones.

I will happily admit that even when she "lived" in babygros I had daytime options and nighttime options.

lattelov3r · 22/05/2012 20:32

ds1 was in outfits from the start ds2 in sleepsuits all the time until about 3 months then 90% of the time until about 4 months now at 7 months hes dressed into proper clothes every morning would seem like leaving him in his pjs otherwise

GluedToTheVideoMonitor · 22/05/2012 20:51

My dd would never wear sleepsuits, or anything else that restricted her feet including socks/tights, until she was about 12 mo. She has always been a pjs gal.

I put her in jeans when she started crawling as they are harder wearing and better protection for her knees. And they looked cute. She has about four pairs currently, and she's 18 mo.

Alice bands, however, look horrid on babies.

IneedAbetterNicknameIn2012 · 22/05/2012 20:52

Sometimes mine wore babygros in the day (and half my family told me they should be in clothes not night wear(
And sometimes they wore outfits, jeans, dungarees etc (and the other half told me babies look cuter in babygros, and shoudn't wear outfits)
Seems to me you can't win! As they are now happy and healthy at 7 and 5 years old, I say meh! Grin

YANBU

IneedAbetterNicknameIn2012 · 22/05/2012 20:53

Incidentally my 7 year old refuses to wear jeans now. He says they aren't comfy 'round his willy' Grin
