To eat a strangers dinner

The PIL came over yesterday with a bunch of frozen food. Their "across the road" neighbour had a freezer breakdown and was just going to throw away the lot and buy a huge new one which wasnt coming until next week.
PIL said they would take some of it off her hands. So they brought us some. I have a turkey crown, lots of frozen fish and some packaged up pre prepared bolognaise.
WIBU to defrost and eat a total stranger's meal? Or should I bin it?

Bin. Yack. Someone elses spag bol. Keep the other stuff. For visitors to eat. :)

MadameMessy · 20/05/2012 17:03

I dont think I would. Just because I like to see how clean knives and forks are in peoples houses. Not sure why not restaurants though.
But if you feel OK about it...

TheMonster · 20/05/2012 17:04

It would be such a waste to bin it though.

KurriKurri · 20/05/2012 17:07

I'd eat it, I hate seeing food wasted. There's no reason to suppose the neighbour is manky is there? - your PIL obviously thought it would be OK and they must know the woman is reasonably hygienic.

Just make sure nothing has half thawed and been refrozen while being transferred.

ripsishere · 20/05/2012 17:07

I don't think I'd fancy the home cooked bolognaise, but the rest would be OK.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 20/05/2012 17:09

eat... yum yum

NettoSuperstar · 20/05/2012 17:12

The thought of the bolognaise gives me the gacks too, which I accept is utterly ridiculous, given I eat from restaurants/takeaways and so on, but still, I wouldn't enjoy it.

slowestwildebeast · 20/05/2012 17:25

I wouldnt eat it as you dont know how long it has been in there.
I eat anything but I wont eat that.

fivegomadindorset · 20/05/2012 17:25

No problem here.

BertieBotts · 20/05/2012 17:26

Seriously? Confused Why the hell not?

Flisspaps · 20/05/2012 17:32

I'd eat it!

slowestwildebeast · 20/05/2012 17:32

Hides from botts.
It might have been in there 6months/years. Plus I can make my own.

Naoko · 20/05/2012 17:33

I'd eat it, presumably the PIL wouldn't have done this if their neighbours lived in some kind of filth strewn nightmare house and really, it's spag bol, how bad could it be after a good nuking in the microwave to heat it up.

Imnotbatman · 20/05/2012 17:35

Its dated by the way 15/4

slowestwildebeast · 20/05/2012 17:35

Yacky yacks. Nuked until it's a puree. No thanks. I only do wilde led weaning. Carrot sticks yes, a yoghurt yes. Some 3year old spag bol. No.

BertieBotts · 20/05/2012 17:36

You know, nothing really happens to food if it's frozen for years. It gets a bit tasteless and rubbery, but it won't kill you.

I'm probably just lazy - I jump at the chance of free/ready made food!

slowestwildebeast · 20/05/2012 17:37

Total drip feed. So it is over a month old.
Give it to someone. Dp?

TastesLikePanda · 20/05/2012 17:37

I'd eat it - tis no different from eating a home-cooked dinner at a friends house to me!

I eat food I've dropped on the floor so my standards are very fairly low...

slowestwildebeast · 20/05/2012 17:39

Come over here botts. dp has all sorts in the freezer.

FannyFifer · 20/05/2012 17:45

God I would totally eat it.

BalloonSlayer · 20/05/2012 17:46

Gosh I'd eat it!

My sister's neighbour once brought over some sausages that were past their eat-by date. Thought they might do for sister's dog. Sister (tight-arse extraordinaire) ate them herself.

Runoutofideas · 20/05/2012 17:51

I'd eat it - if they've bothered to date it they're probably pretty hygenic!

Dropdeadfred · 20/05/2012 17:52

I couldn't or rather I wouldn't. I'm a bit weird about food though ( and yet as others have said I dine out in restaurants without worrying too much)

cwtch4967 · 20/05/2012 18:01

I hate food waste - I would eat it! Nothing worse than people throwing good food in the bin.

Imnotbatman · 20/05/2012 18:10

Sorry, wasnt meant to drip feed. I just didnt think of adding the date thing until someone on here asked/mentioned it.Nowt more to tell.
