YABU. Sounds like a perfectly good explanation to me.

thebody · 20/05/2012 14:38

You sound very high maintenance and self important.

Yabu.

robusta · 20/05/2012 19:14

It's not the OP that's self important, it's the type that thinks its beyond the realms of possibility to pick up the phone themselves and say, 'We're just eating, I'll call you later.'

exoticfruits · 20/05/2012 19:28

Why can't you just say 'sorry, I'll phone back later'?

YouOldSlag · 20/05/2012 21:15

robusta- perhaps they had their hands full taking something out of the oven or dishing up and their kids were free to answer.

cory · 20/05/2012 21:18

What's wrong with a child saying "sorry we're just eating"? After all, the parents can't know which one of them a phone call is for without leaving the table, so even if children were banned from answering the phone there is still a 50% chance of the caller having to speak to the wrong person. Why would it matter if the wrong person is a child (as long as they are not a toddler)?

2rebecca · 20/05/2012 22:36

If you're having dineer and can't answer the phone then why are you answering the phone? Let it go to answerphone or better still just ring out so the caller doesn't waste their money. Answering the phone to say you can't answer the phone is daft, especially if you just get a kid to do it.

Because it might have been life and death 2rebecca Wink

Hulababy · 21/05/2012 19:03

2rebecca - I don't like sitting listening to it ring. Besides it might be important. If we don't answer it I don't know. So whoever is closest will answer and if it is not urgent we say we will call back later.

exoticfruits · 21/05/2012 19:05

Quite probably the child wants to answer. As long as they can answer it properly why not?
