YABU. Changing just the one letter doesn't really change the word - everyone knows what it's a euphemism for.

loobeylou2012 · 18/05/2012 20:51

probably wouldn't say it around kids tbf, but I can think of many a hell of a lot worse. Sooo I supose I'm not sure if you are or are not BU. Where do you work, that could make a difference? Deff wouldnt say it in a shop, school or church...

tabulahrasa · 18/05/2012 20:52

It's fuck with an accent.

ShellyBoobs · 18/05/2012 20:53

...but I can think of many a hell of a lot worse...

I can't, other than 'cunt'.

Confused
ChitChatFlyingby · 18/05/2012 20:53

YABU - It's just fuck in a different dialect, isn't it???!!! Hmm

(I keep saying it after I read a Marian Keyes novel! Grin)

WorraLiberty · 18/05/2012 20:53

Well my family are Irish and feck means fuck...so yes to them it's a bad word.

AllYoursBabooshka · 18/05/2012 20:54

It kind of depends where you work. I work in a very sweary environment, so 'feck' would seem like nothing in my job.

But I wouldn't say it to a class of 5 year-olds or if I was the tannoy announcer at Heathrow airport, for example.

ChitChatFlyingby · 18/05/2012 20:57

As a teenager (Aussie) I used to say 'Frig' as it didn't seem as bad as 'fuck'. But I knew it bloody well was Grin.

Floggingmolly · 18/05/2012 21:10

It's not the equivalent of fuck. In Ireland it's about the mildest expletive you can get.

WorraLiberty · 18/05/2012 21:12

To be honest, I think the Priest in Father Ted kind of upped it to level fuck Grin

Floggingmolly · 18/05/2012 21:15

Worra Those gobshites? I'm not surprised Grin

AllYoursBabooshka · 18/05/2012 21:17

Yes, We shall blame Father Jack for putting an edge on the word feck. :o

I would put it on par with saying "sugar" instead of "shit" etc.

Oh and Mrs Brown's Boys...I miss that! Grin

Haven't seen you around lately Maryz, how's things?

Smellslikecatspee · 18/05/2012 21:20

But it's not Fuck in a different accent.

Is it Maryz?

It different, I was always told it was the English translation of Ah go bHfuil or something. . Properly from Peig.

I mean you wouldn't say I'm off for a good feck with the OH.

jazzchickens · 18/05/2012 21:20

I agree with Maryz.

I always use it and think of it as shortened "flippin' 'eck"

Who would you be informing? :o

WorraLiberty · 18/05/2012 21:23

Well you never can be too careful nowadays Maryz

One wrong click and you might have found yourself in the middle of her facebook wall saying things like "true dat m8" and lusting over Justin Beiber Shock

Smellslikecatspee · 18/05/2012 21:24

I once watched absolutely fabulous in the US with all the swearing, references to drugs, excessive drinking and sex bleeped out.

Didn't make a bit of sence or humour. .
