torch is arriving? That it will be touring around the country? Or that the Olympics will be in London this summer?

I hate watching sport and find it annoying that it will interrupt perfectly good television.

I was saying exactly this as my dp was hushing me watching the one show with the flamer ACTUALLY landing!!!!!!!!

sue52 · 19/05/2012 10:16

YANBU. I'm in the don't give a flying fuck camp. I've tried being interested but I end up bored stiff.

pickledparsnip · 19/05/2012 13:24

Waves back at Cassettetapeandpencil!

Yes I'm in sunny Cornwall Allegrogirl.
Watched the torch come through town this morning. Ok I admit it, I actually enjoyed it!...(hangs head in shame & blames crowd for making me all excited)

doublechocchip · 19/05/2012 13:31

yabu I love stuff like this which brings the country together.

Do you not think that the 70 day route of the torch will help the economy a fair bit with all the people turning out to watch and travelling to local towns/cities? Most people will buy food/drinks/pop in to the shops I think it'll give us a boost.

yousankmybattleship · 19/05/2012 13:33

YANBU. I couldn't give a rats arse about the olympics and will be very pleased when its all over. I find it boring whichever country its in.

yousankmybattleship · 19/05/2012 13:35

Grin at Bexxytrexxy's OH watching the "flamer" landing. Are you referring to Seb Coe?

VonHerrBurton · 19/05/2012 13:36

I care about the shit that has/will be bestowed on 'normal' London people during the Games. As usual with this country, it just doesn't seem to be as smooth running as it should be. There shouldn't be so much drama and upset for residents and people who work there.

However, I also care massively about the Games and adore watching them in my home on a big TV (up North!) and am super excited. Couldn't give a shit about the opening ceremony, or the arse licker politics that are surrounding it, but what it boils down to is people who have trained for years, for very little (if any) money to try to be the best in their sport.

DukeHumfrey · 19/05/2012 13:37

Re buying food/drinks etc while watching the torch - apparently branded stuff is banned unless it is a sponsor's brand.

Olympics = criminal waste of time & money. Tis my view and will remain so until it's finally over.

noddyholder · 19/05/2012 13:38

I have no interest in it either

Oakmaiden · 19/05/2012 13:41

I think it is great in principal.

I just think it is a shame that we got "our turn" to have the Olympics just before the bottom fell out of the world economy, so we haven't really been able to make the best of the opportunity.

And that it is being held in the middle of the most crowded place in the country - where it has the chance to inconvenience the greatest number of people - AND where huge swathes of the country have to travel miles to get there. I think they should have put it in Birmingham, or somewhere like that.

DukeHumfrey · 19/05/2012 13:43

Yes, Oakmaiden. Or Paris. Or the South Pole.

Oakmaiden · 19/05/2012 13:45

Hm. Access to the South Pole would be even trickier....

mama01 · 19/05/2012 15:59

DukeHumfrey you are spot on Wink

jenfraggle · 19/05/2012 16:01

I've just got back from watching, was a great atmosphere and nobody was stopping people from having whatever food and drink they wanted so the suggestion of banning non approved brands is rubbish.

snozzlemaid · 19/05/2012 19:33

I've seen it today too. Was a great atmosphere and so many people.

grimbletart · 19/05/2012 19:41

Don't hang your head. Just be grateful that you have not inherited the gene that makes so many Brits whinging, whining, moaning sourpusses. Grin

lagoonhaze · 19/05/2012 20:10

Lovely day with the children celebrating the flame passing by- a day they will remember.

The olympics are here and happening- maybe it is a waste money but doesn't mean I wont be making memories with my children.

outmonday · 19/05/2012 20:48

It's hardly the ancient Greeks, it's sponsored by junk food and most of the seats have been reserved for corporations. The poor, ill, disabled, unemployed, old are all having their help slashed because this country's bankrupt but money by the billion is thrown at the Olympics.
I hope lots of competitors fail their drug tests and discredit the whole baloney.

Empusa · 19/05/2012 21:31

YANBU

I'd forgotten about that sodding torch travelling round, best check I don't actually need to leave the house the day it comes through our town. Because they've planned it's route through the one place guaranteed to turn the whole town into a massive parking lot (twats)

I find it strange that people who are very much against most kinds of ceremony, symbolism, pomp and circumstance and so on, suddenly get all excited about it if it's connected to sport Confused

Oakmaiden · 20/05/2012 00:33

I love ceremony, symbolism, pomp and circumstance. Sport - not so much Grin
