torch is arriving? That it will be touring around the country? Or that the Olympics will be in London this summer?

I hate watching sport and find it annoying that it will interrupt perfectly good television.

Died

Take it you don't live somewhere where your whole life going to be disrupted for 6 weeks

LynetteScavo · 18/05/2012 19:50

YANBU.

It's as boring as football, and the Jubilee. We only just had a Jubilee 10 years ago, and will have one in another 10.

I did enjoy the silver jubilee though. We ate jelly and ice cream in our class room.

Katiekitty · 18/05/2012 19:52

DressdownFriday - get into which spirit? Spirit of what?

jenfraggle · 18/05/2012 19:54

I'm going to watch the flame tomorrow, my Guide Unit is helping. I would be helping but will be 39+6 tomorrow so have been let off :o

DressDownFriday · 18/05/2012 20:18

Get into the spirit - I just mean enjoy it. Yes it's an inconvenience to some but let's celebrate that something positive is happening in this country for once.

I may live up north but it's caused problems here too. My Summer holidays have been restricted and shifts changed around but, so what?

somewheresomehow · 18/05/2012 20:31

I will be thankful when its all over and forgotten about.

diedandgonetodevon · 18/05/2012 20:32

TheHumancatapult - don't be fooled by the name. I spend half my time living in central London.

slipperandpjsmum · 18/05/2012 20:39

I am so glad you have started this thread. I was starting to think I was the only person who was not interested in the Olympics and that bloody torch!

YANBU

And I agree about it getting in the way of normal tv progs too!!

TheHumancatapult · 18/05/2012 20:42

Died but are you going to have to live and get around it over the summer

orienteerer · 18/05/2012 20:44

YAB seriously U

diedandgonetodevon · 18/05/2012 20:49

Yes we will but it won't be dampening my enthusiasm [waves little union flag]

DukeHumfrey · 18/05/2012 20:53

YANBU. Who cares? Even David Cameron has left the country.

pinkhebe · 18/05/2012 20:54

I'm really excited. My friend's little boy is going to be part of the opening ceremony, welcoming Uruguay Grin

BobblyGussets · 18/05/2012 20:59

Will a super soaker be enough to put paid to The Fucking Flame?

Olympics Shmalympics, I can hardly contain my indifference.

We are abroad for two weeks of it. Yay!

Sallyingforth · 18/05/2012 21:04

All this talk about THE TORCH. There are actually 8,000 torches, one for each runner and each one has enough gas for just 10 minutes. Most of the route will be covered by vehicles. It's just a ripoff like the rest of the olympics.

EmmaCate · 18/05/2012 21:39

Hilarious thread. I particularly like 'Fucking Flame'.

It's as boring as football

Whhhaaattt???? Super Sunday was the most exhilarating day so far this year (quick check; yes DD was born in 2011). I spent all afternoon doing chores in a state of heightened tension. Between the title race, the relegation battles and whether DH was going to hold onto his fragile lead in his fantasy football league, I had such a hard time trying to stay focused. I had to explain to DS when it was all over why our childcare had been completely lacking, beyond fulfilment of basic needs...

Anyway - I'm with all the pro chicks! Yay to the upcoming feast of sporting prowess. Is that spelt right? It looks weird.

AuraofDora · 18/05/2012 22:24

Psammead would be funnier, they should have scheduled the major events for small existing spaces - javelin down the shopping centre, mind your backs please; running on the motorway lanes; gymnastics jumping from roof tops, twirling double back flips over the chimney pots, hurling discus from the fourth plinth

and saved the dough for what we need

The thing also that really gets me is the Olympic Village has no kitchens. Once they are finished they have to fit kitchens in all those pokey flats built to benefit community big fat builders

such a con

mama01 · 18/05/2012 22:39

What are the Olympics?

AuraofDora · 18/05/2012 23:01

mama01 are you living in a tightly sealed tin which somehow manages to get an intermitent internet signal?

DukeHumfrey · 18/05/2012 23:03

Or maybe she is being sarcastic.

2shoesbrightonqueen · 18/05/2012 23:04

yabu did you not see Db face
he was so happy he didn't cock it
made me a sport hater smile

cakeismysaviour · 18/05/2012 23:21

Don't give a toss about the Olympics, the whole thing is a waste of money and a joke.

If any of my favourite shows are cancelled to accommodate the handball or the cycling round in circles quickly thing, or anything else equally shit thrilling, I Will Not Be Amused.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/05/2012 23:30

YA so NBU

Robyn33 · 19/05/2012 00:21

So we are supposed to get excited that some people are wandering about the country with a phallic icon with a flame on it. (the last few torches have been designed that way). People are supposed to line the streets to watch the 'deserving chosen ones' troop about the country with the flame. It might be a bit more exciting if it was being carried by famous people rather than 'random' but deserving members of the general public. i'm sure it will be delightful for the handful - the chosen few torch bearers. The rest of us- the masses would still have preferred famous people traipsing about the country though. I won't be lining the streets. Got better things to do with my time- like the ironing!

Trestle · 19/05/2012 00:24

YANBU. I'm not in the slightest bit interested in sport. Would love to see such a vast amount of money spent on education and the arts instead :)
