Big babies and clothing sizes..........

My little boy was born at 8lb 3oz and eight weeks later is now over 13lb. He is absolutely perfect and growing well ? he loves his milk, what more can I say?

However, having been ?stretching? his 0-3 months clothes so they are comfortable for the last week or so, I have now decided to admit defeat and put him in the next size up....

Am I being unreasonable to be a tad sentimental about this? How old were other babies when they reached the ?3-6 month clothing? milestone?

My daughter is 6 months and still in 0-3 clothes. She's a gorgeous little mouse.

My DD was too a gorgeous little mouse and was still in 0-3 month clothes at 6 months.

She was given a 3-6 month Monsoon dress when she was born which she finally wore for the first time to her first birthday. It was still huge and she wore it until she was around 18 months.

Hi Folkgirl, hooray for mice!

TroublesomeEx · 16/05/2012 13:53

Hi Kitty, indeed!

DD is nearly 6 now - she's still tiny!

Disadvantages - everyone assumes she's younger than she is.

Advantages - I can still swoop her up with one arm and carry her on my hip.

TruthSweet · 16/05/2012 14:06

DD1 still fitted in her 0-3 summer clothes when she was 14m old. We had a warm May and I tried her in the summer clothes I had bought in 12-18m and they fell off her. She actually skipped straight from 6-9m clothes to 12-18m (had worn 6-9m from about 7/8m to 16m-ish).

She was 7lb 12oz born but had reflux so never outgrew her newborn clothes by width just by length (she was 2nd for weight & 75th for height at 16w and 25th for weight and 91st for height by 34w when she was actually gaining a bit!).

DD1 is 6y and in 7-8y clothes now but can still wear DD3's 9-12m leggings as cycle shorts (DD3 is 2y 7m!) as she is so skinny.

DD2 was 7lb 6oz and needed prem baby and DD1's doll's clothes for the first 3 weeks Confused. She's 4y 6m now and in 5-6 mainly though skinny like DD1 (she can also wear DD3's leggings but as clam diggers not shorts).

I have freakish children Grin

Yes people always question her age. I think its lovely that she's dainty. I think she's perfect. Your daughter sounds gorgeous! Mine pushed up onto her knees today for the first time. She might be small but she's got micro power!

15 months old ans she still fits into a few 3-6 months clothes. My eldest was five and she wore upto 10lb pair of trousers as shorts! She is very Pettit and they looked ok.

Lastofthepodpeople · 17/05/2012 18:51

My DS was in 3-6 months by 6 weeks and at almost 2 has some 3-4 clothes...Just a big child. They don't all fit into the prearranged sizes

OaksFromLittleAcornsGrow · 20/05/2012 19:13

Gah - I'm trying to organise a hospital bag, I have no idea whether to buy newborn or 0-3? I'd like them to fit, but I also don't want them to drown the baby!!

What would you all do next time - if you had to buy new? I suppose I could buy both and take a couple of each, but it seems daft to buy newborn if they are never going to wear them??

lolajane2009 · 20/05/2012 19:42

we had the opposite from when my son was born... we had to buy tiny baby as neither the early nor newborn fit as he was 5lb 10 and went below 5lb at 2wks old. nowadays he is mr stringbean and at 8mths some of his 9-12mth clothes are too short. guess i'll have to pull out his 12-18mth clothes soon.

BlackOutTheSun · 20/05/2012 19:51

dd was 8lbs 12oz when born, had to go into 0-3 months, went up to 3-6 at 4 weeks.

She is now 14months and in size 2-3 years

MightyOaksFromLittleAcornsGrow · 20/05/2012 19:59

Bloody babies - can't they just all come out at a standard length and weight?? It would make life much easier Grin

Flisspaps · 20/05/2012 22:15

Oaks - 0-3!

msbossy · 20/05/2012 22:27

I had a huge tidy up today and pulled the 18-24 month clothes from the loft for 13 mo DD2. Most are too big but not all! It made me a bit teary to think of DD2 wearing proper toddler clothes (not to mention DD1 in her size 9.5 shoes (she's 3!) My babies are so big!

Jodidi · 20/05/2012 22:30

Dd1 was 9lbs 7oz and was in 3-6 month clothes by 3 weeks. By 6 weeks she was in 6-12 month clothes. She grew incredibly quickly, over 1lb per week for about 8 weeks.

Dd2 was 10lbs 10oz and came home in 3-6 month clothes (12 hours old). She didn't grow as fast as dd1 though so they lasted about 6/7 weeks before she needed the next size.

ceeveebee · 20/05/2012 22:32

My DTD was 6 months last week and wears 0-3 months, she was 3lb 13 at birth and has 'jumped' up from 0.4 to 2nd centile. Her twin brother is a hefty chunk and wears 6-9 months so she'll get to wear all his handmedowns, the poor deprived child! Her clothes were so tiny that I still get tearful if I look at them
