Big babies and clothing sizes..........

My little boy was born at 8lb 3oz and eight weeks later is now over 13lb. He is absolutely perfect and growing well ? he loves his milk, what more can I say?

However, having been ?stretching? his 0-3 months clothes so they are comfortable for the last week or so, I have now decided to admit defeat and put him in the next size up....

Am I being unreasonable to be a tad sentimental about this? How old were other babies when they reached the ?3-6 month clothing? milestone?

Oh god, you're making me all broody now callysmummy Grin, lucky a couple of my friends are due soon so I get to cuddle a newborn again, best feeling ever! I am having problems referring to ds as a toddler as to me he's still a baby, albeit one that is walking Blush

heymammy · 15/05/2012 12:09

Newborn babygros lasted precisely 2 weeks here. Ds is now 5 weeks and starting to burst out of 0-3 but I'm somewhat reluctant to move onto 3-6 sentimental fool.

Feels like he's hardly worn some of his stuff. Sigh...never mind, before he arrived I stocked up on babygros and vests up to 6 months so they are sitting there ready to go Smile

BigBoPeep · 15/05/2012 13:10

my DD is 13lb at 6wks...I can't get the sizing right though - too big for 0-3mo but the 3-6mo stuff is massive on her!? I have a handful of things which still fit and I'm washing a lot...

CallysMummy · 15/05/2012 14:14

BigBoPeep - I am having exactly the same problem, so have been doing a fair bit of 'stretching'. Perhaps you could wash all of the 3-6mnth clothing? I have found that baby clothes tend to shrink in the wash/drier.

DD was in 0-3 months for 10 days. Her feet got too big for the babygros and the poppers came open on the vests. She was only 9lbs but v tall (still is). I had expected this as OH is v tall, so only had a few bits in 0-3 months thankfully.

SecretNutellaFix · 15/05/2012 19:23

my nephew was 7 weeks. He was in 3-6 months for ages due to being fairly ill for a few weeks from when he was 8 weeks old, but now at 18 months is 30lb in weight, 94cm tall and filling 2-3 year clothes nicely. His shoe size is 7 as well.

Bumblefeck · 15/05/2012 19:30

O dear, I have the opposite problem. DS was 4lb so he was in 0-3 months clothing til he was about 8 months!

He's now 3 and he still fits into 12-18 month trousers round his waist, they just swing around mid-calf. 2-3 years for trousers need halving with a belt and 3-4 years just fall straight down

toobreathless · 15/05/2012 19:39

DD was born 8 lb 8, pretty average. But, at 10 weeks was 10 lb & referred for failure to thrive.

She is still small now & is in 6-12 month generally at 13 months.

Am so with you here. DD1 was mini (till she started eating food anyway!) and now her 11 week old sister is in hand me down 3-6 month baby grows with food stains down the front that she was weaned (at 6 months) in!

catgirl1976 · 15/05/2012 20:28

DS is 6 months old and out growing 6 - 9 month clothes.

He was 9lb 1 when born and is now 21lb and 2ft 5 inches long

We had to cut the feet off most of his clothes :)

poppy283 · 15/05/2012 20:43

H&m clothes are good, in that they come up massive, so you just roll up the sleeves/legs and they last ages.
Zara clothes are tiny weeny IME, except their tights which are incredibly long.
Dd was out of 0-3 sleepsuits at 5 weeks. They do slow down around their first birthday though :)

My baby was 9lb 6ozs so not enormous, he was a skinny little thing but super long. Both my sons went straight into 3-6 months clothes, they have long torsos, could never do stuff up around their bums. By 6 weeks he was in 6-12 months.

George from Asda's clothes come up really big.

NellyTheElephant · 15/05/2012 20:59

DS was 7lb 9oz at birth, however he was 57 cm long, which put him off the centile chart and immediately out of 0-3 sized clothing (0-3months is up to 56cm). You simply can't imagine how scrawny he was, but his toes curled up and squashed in babygroes so I either had to cut the feet off or put him in 3-6 (which swamped him).

flapjack77 · 15/05/2012 21:16

Have only just put 16 week old ds2 in 3-6 month clothes. DS1 was the same, now 2.3 and only just gone into 18-24 month size.

Sorted through the newborn and 0-3 stuff last night, most of which they have both worn, was making me feel broody already! (don't tell DH)

letsblowthistacostand · 15/05/2012 22:20

God mine are such tiddlers! They both moved out of 0-3 pretty quickly then were in 3-6 ages, esp DD2, still had some 3-6 trousers for her when she was 12mo as she was so skinny! They're still tiddlers and I still feel weepy everytime I have to clear out the too-small clothes.

JugsMcGee · 15/05/2012 22:23

DS was 7lb 4oz at birth and was in 3-6m clothes by 6 weeks. Think he was about 13lb!!

cece · 15/05/2012 22:26

My 11lber was 4 weeks old when he went into 3-6 months clothes.

Figgygal · 15/05/2012 22:27

My 4 mo was 19lbs 15oz at 20 wks we've given up on much 6-9 clothes now Blush

KitCat26 · 15/05/2012 22:32

DD1 7lb5oz at birth, out of 0-3 around 4 or 5 months. DD1 has always been a slim little thing.
DD2 7lb11oz at birth, out of 0-3 around 3 months. DD2 is built like a sparrow, lucky legs and a big belly just like DH Grin

kittyandthefontanelles · 15/05/2012 22:54

My daughter is 6 months and still in 0-3 clothes. She's a gorgeous little mouse.

CelticPromise · 15/05/2012 23:05

DS was premature and teeny and was in 3-6 month clothes on his first birthday. Now getting on for three and can get into 6-9 month t shirts width wise, although they are too short. Have to get him adjustable trousers, he's wearing mostly 18 month size on the tightest setting! Don't know where he got the skinny gene from, not me or DH!

Bellakins · 15/05/2012 23:06

DD is 4 months and still in 0-3 mostly. She's 12lb 5oz, though 8lb 11 at birth. Shame, all her 3-6 months clothes are so cute too!

lazylula · 15/05/2012 23:09

Ds1 was 9lb 15.5 ozs at birth and was a slowish grower so stayed in his age clothes pretty much all the way through. Ds2 was 9lb 10.5 and was in 3 to 6 moths stuff at 2 monthish. Dd was 8lbs 14 and went into 3 tu 6 months at 3 months but at 12 months is still in 6 to 9 months as at a year she was 19lbs, so not a big girl. She is going into 9 to 12 month stuff now. I had mixed feelings about them moving on as I liked to try the new clothes but hated the fact they were getting bigger! Dd is the weight at a year that both ds' were at 28 and 29 weeks so she still seems very much a little baby to me which is nice!

OhTheConfusion · 15/05/2012 23:19

DD was 6mths when she moved into 3-6mth clothing. She was 5lb2oz when born and is now starting to outgrow some of the 3-6mths at 8mths old and 15lbs 2oz.

I find H&M, Next, Sarah Louise and The White Company to be generous with sizing. Marks and Spencer and Zara seem quite neat.
