To moan about how sore my throat is?

MrsMoosickle · 14/05/2012 21:29

It's fecking agony and I feel sorry for myself. DH missing a sympathy chip and instead asking if I will massage his tight calf!

Besides gargling with warm salty water, any suggestions to make it through the night?

Ice cream.....you need cool, smooth, soothing ice cream for your poor throat.....Grin

And a couple of paracetamol

Hope you feel better soon

MrsMoosickle · 14/05/2012 21:41

Thanks Selks, I typed a message back and lost it!

Icecream sounds like a great solution, I am munching ice cubes as I type.

It's my birthday today and I feel like I am swallowing broken glass!
Sad

YADNBU...if it is anywhere near as sore as mine then you definitely have moaning rights.

Have you got some of that throat spray that includes an anaesthetic? (Or an all-night chemist that you can send DH to get you some?)

Assuming you can take both with no contra-indications, it might help to alternate paracetamol and ibruprofen every two hours.

MrsMoosickle · 14/05/2012 21:43

I hadn't thought of alternating meds, see its so sore I can't even think straight. Can you believe I am dreading each swallow? Sob sob

elderflower cordial is really good for sore throats. tesco do it. make it up with hot water, very soothing

MrsMoosickle · 14/05/2012 21:48

Thanks everyone, so said to DH, ( lets call him cold hearted knob) will you pop to Tesco for soothing items as outlined above.

Cold hearted knob replied, my calf hurts when pressing down on the clutch!

I am also feeling sorry for my self- I have a stinking cold and an infected wisdom tooth- my face feels like it will explode. Lots of tablets will help

MrsMoosickle · 14/05/2012 21:58

Oh now I am being unreasonable Sausage Dog, the infected wisdom tooth is hell on earth!

How I recall the night spent pacing the rooms in the dark with that pain.

Cold Hearted Knob had man flu that week too...........

Probably cramp. Needs to stretch it. Pressing a clutch would help.

Or say "Oh dear darling, of course I wouldn't expect you to drive if your calf is sore. You can get a taxi to Tesco instead."

PrisonerOfWaugh · 14/05/2012 22:01

You have my sympathies, I had the bugger of all sore throats a week ago - lasted 8 days it did, felt like someone had grated the inside of my throat

Wearing a fleece scarf 24/7 and gargling with TCP is what did it in in the end.

Hope you feel better soon

Butwhatdoyoudoallday · 14/05/2012 22:01

If his calf hurts when he's pressing down the clutch you really shouldn't massage it as it's probably in the acute stage of the injury and you'll just do more harm than good.

I appreciate that's not the point, but gives you a retort to his need for a massage.

In the meantime keep on with the ice cubes. If it's the horrid bug that everyone seems to be getting you'll feel much better in the morning.

MrsMoosickle · 14/05/2012 22:05

More harm than good would be great just now, he has actually just paked his squash bag for tomorrow!

Fingers crossed for a better day tomorrow, it just arrived out of the blue today and got progressively worse!

Alternating painkillers.
Cooler with ice cubes by the bed.
Hot honey and lemon drink while awake (heat is a really good anaesthetic for sore throats and honey is antiseptic - don't drink lemsips, just take the tablets and enjoy the drink - juice of half a lemon, dollop of honey, hot water - lovely.
Sore throats are the pits - if you start developing a very high temperature go and see GP though, I had one where I went up to 41C and it was streptococcal, I needed antibiotics.

DontCallMeBaby · 14/05/2012 22:14

Mm, honey and lemon - I have a stinky cold and am regretting being too lazy to go to the shop for lemons. Sympathies, fellow poorly people.

Hooleywhipper · 14/05/2012 22:14

You have my greatest sympathy,I rate TCP gargle too.

fuckbucket · 14/05/2012 22:14

Pointythings has already said about the honey and lemon.
You could put whisky in it too. Makes bugger all difference to the pain level or soreness, but helps you stop caring and may help you pass out sleep later.
And second icecream!

MrsMoosickle · 14/05/2012 22:17

I thought the bugs vanished in April! Why are we all unwell?

OP posts:
pointythings · 15/05/2012 21:36

I don't think bugs understand calendars, MrsMoosickle and it has been weird weather....

I haven't been unwell, just had the first twinges of hay fever .

Empusa · 15/05/2012 21:57

Feeling rough too! I'm hoping a very cold glass of malibu and coke will help..

giraffesCantGoPotholing · 15/05/2012 21:59

cocodamol and ibuprofen alternated

antibs if white bits on tonsils

that spray stuff you get from chemist.

ice poles, almost swallow the ice whole

giraffesCantGoPotholing · 15/05/2012 22:00

No! You need to gargle painkillers - soluble aspirin or paracetamol. Tell DH to put ear plugs in (my DP is visibly distressed by the noise) and gargle. Make a dose last 20 mins and gargle the solution onto the painful bit. I guarantee results.

crazynanna · 15/05/2012 22:41

Be careful OP...I had a bout of tonsillitus a couple of weeks ago (1st time in my life tonsillitus)...turned into an abscess (Quinsey sp), ended up in A&E and an overnight stay with IV ABs.

I came on here in tears. 'Twas jeffing 'orrible.

If it's a one sided pain, earache, stiff jaw and you start dribbling...get thee to medical help Wink
