To be annoyed that old people park in mother & child spaces?

There are never enough mother & child parking spaces where I shop - be it supermarket or shopping centre - so I've started to notice who is actually parked in those spaces. Well, I've noticed it's mostly old people with no children. The other day I was so annoyed by this that I confronted an old man parked in a mother &. child space at Morrisons having a fag in his car while his wife did the shopping. He got very angry and basically said that he had more right than me to park near the entrance because his wife had arthritis. This is not the first time that I see older people without kids abuse the parking facilities for mothers with young children. In fact it happens all the time and supermarket staff just turn a blind eye!
I have a three month old baby and a large car so really struggle to park in regular size spaces and take the buggy out. But AIBU?

Do they even make Frisps anymore?

McHappyPants2012 · 14/05/2012 21:29

and on the subject. I love this power people have to see hidden disabilities on why parents with teens or school aged children may need these spaces

Olympia2012 · 14/05/2012 21:30

Swear words? There are hardly any..

BodaciousTatas · 14/05/2012 21:30

Sorry we will stop using swear words Wink

fuckarama · 14/05/2012 21:30

Don't you have any empathy?

smornintime · 14/05/2012 21:30

Surely the bloke could have done the shopping or dropped off and picked up the wife at the entrance so she wouldn't have had to walk?
To be fair I get annoyed when I see people park in those spaces when they have an empty car seat in the back...

SauvignonBlanche · 14/05/2012 21:31

No, we bloody won't!

fuckarama · 14/05/2012 21:31

BodaciousTatas · 14/05/2012 21:31

Hi olimpia. If you are fairly new I would give AIBU a very wide berth to start with.
There are subjects that have been covered a lot and they get this sort of response.

Olympia2012 · 14/05/2012 21:32

There are age limits in sainsburys and it's certainly not age 2!!!

Why 2 by the way?

olimpia · 14/05/2012 21:32

And my car is a grand scenic because I have three kids not because I'm an idiot who likes to waste money on flashy cars.
Also not my fault if supermarkets and shopping centres decide to create p&c spaces but no "old people" spaces

no one needs P+C spaces - if you can't park and get a child/children out of a car in a car park you have issues - people with disabilities do need spaces - P+C parking is a marketing ploy - would you get cross is somebody used nectar points you didn't think they where entitled to

gordyslovesheep · 14/05/2012 21:33

oh and I have 3 kids and an S-Max and manage fine in normal spaces :)

JesusWept · 14/05/2012 21:34

Oh dear.

TroubleAndFyfe · 14/05/2012 21:37

If she did get a blue badge she would be entitled to park almost anywhere, including [shock, horror] P & C spaces, so you would have absolutely no recourse...just thought I'd point that out.

fuckarama · 14/05/2012 21:38

I used to have a proper Mini. I could park it fine in any space.

I also have occasion to drive an Isuzu Trooper LWB. I can park it fine in any space.

I have four children.

I can manage, why can't you?

typoqueen · 14/05/2012 21:38

ooooooooooo shall i hmmmmmm finding it difficult to resist....aw go on then

Any restrictions supermarkets may impose on parking spaces are completely unenforceable.

This applies to disabled, parent+child and anything else they might come up with in the future. Yup, that's right, they can't even touch the able-bodied plonker in the enormous Range Rover who is taking up the last two disabled spaces by parking sideways.

At the very worst, you'll get a fake parking ticket or called to the front of the store where a burly security person will give you a ticking off

but i dont really care cos i got a blue badge and a baby woooooop go me

P&C spaces aren't legally mandated.

Therefore, anyone who likes can park in them.

And honestly, if I was disabled and the disabled spaces were full, or I just had restricted mobility but no blue badge, I'd park in them if they were nearer to the door.

EdlessAllenPoe · 14/05/2012 21:40

really OP

i get annoyed when young men in noisy cars use the P&T spaces (very common).
I get annoyed when white van men/ 4*4 drivers with no children use them
or anyone else who is just obviously being a prick.

i don't get annoyed when people with mobility problems use them.

i am grumpy today.

Olympia2012 · 14/05/2012 21:41

lockets I didn't think they were particularly large cars either!

TandB · 14/05/2012 21:41

Were there salt and vinegar? Were there?

[salivates]

[abandons children in house and drives like lunatic to Tescos]

TandB · 14/05/2012 21:41

[parking in P&C spaces to throw social services off the scent]

fuckarama · 14/05/2012 21:42

Salt and vinegar, cheese and onion and ready salted multipack
