Warning... It's dog related.. Owners should keep better control over their dog/s

Lovely sunny day so dh, me and 3 dc went to highcliffe beach. It's a really nice beach and families go there as well as many dog walkers. This is fine of course.

However, we had our towels and windbreak up, baby's pram and buckets and spade and picnic. Normal stuff.

So we are there, I'm looking after baby and boys playing with dh in sand/stones.

Dog comes up and pisses over bucket. Owner is horrified and washes bucket in sea. Ok, owner dealt with it.

Bit later a couple of women with 3 dogs, one a standard poodle. The standard poodle comes and pisses over windbreak (picnic bag the other side) owners dreadfully sorry but ffs couldn't they keep dogs closer to them.

And later still family with 2 smaller dogs. Dogs come bounding through our picnic and then one goes to piss on pram. Dh shouted at dog and owners said said "oh they just love kids"... "I said if you can't keep your dogs to yourselves you should keep them on leads"

I have to say there were lots of people with dogs there and most of them just went past and no issues. Oh and the poodle owner quipped "that's dogs for you".... [hmmm]

Sorry I know this seems anti dogs. It's not, it's the feckless owners (minority) who think everyone should love their dogs and not mind them pissing on their belongings.

Where is your AIBU question?

As for dogs weeing on things, maybe focus your attention on the number one reason for the spread of infection which is people not washing their hands. Or maybe people spitting or vomiting in the street. Or leave rotting food waste. Or other rubbish.

At least urine is sterile!

PandaWatch · 14/05/2012 14:51

Superstickybeak if you rubbed human shit in your eyes it wouldn't affect you?!

Mama - my point was made more at the general anti-dog fanatics. Of course it is disgusting that not one but three people let dogs wee on your stuff. But the majority of dog owners would not let that happen!

MamaMaiasaura · 14/05/2012 14:51

panda are you serious?? I'm sat feeding my baby and dog is pissig on windbreak which has our lunch the otherwise and I should be thinking of the benefits of good hand hygiene (which as a nurse I'm well versed in). What a fucking shot argument that is

OP posts:
PandaWatch · 14/05/2012 14:52

Maybe read my post directed to you Mama...

Superstickybeak · 14/05/2012 14:53

Panda, when did you last see a steaming human turd on the street, huh?

PandaWatch · 14/05/2012 14:53

My other post was directed at whoever said owners allowing their dogs to wee against a fence should be ashamed of themselves

MamaMaiasaura · 14/05/2012 14:53

Otherside not otherwise (silly phone). People don't rub shit on there eyeballs. It's the worms that are in the shit that get into child's system.

SeaHouses · 14/05/2012 14:53

I am generally very pro dogs, but superstickybeak, I think something needs to be done about the situation you are in. It is likely to happen again and could have terrible consequences.

It isn't like a dog approaching somebody in a park. It is a large, powerful dog that lives there, presumably sees the lane as its territory and now, in its mind, has successfully dominated you and your children and chased you from its territory. You need to try and get your neighbour to stop it running loose, or contact authorities about it, or both.

PandaWatch · 14/05/2012 14:54

Superstickybeak - you're the one who said human waste wouldn't blind you even if it were in the street!

ChickensHaveNoLips · 14/05/2012 14:54

All dog owners are not fuckwits. In fact, the vast majority are not. We all encounter many, many dogs on a daily basis yet they don't even register because they are on a lead/under control. I don't allow my dog to approach anyone. I am well aware that not everyone likes dogs. I pick up poo and exercise him well away from people out for the day. We all hate the fuckwits. The fuckwits inspire rants and threads like this and then make everyone grumpy.

TheUnMember · 14/05/2012 14:55

God yeah on the pissing and shititng everywhere, gross! Another thing my kids don't do. And even if they did shit in the street, it's not going to blind you unmember. Unlike your dog's shit.

I de-worm my dogs once a month. How often do you de-worm your kids?

PandaWatch · 14/05/2012 14:56

Toxocariasis would only cause blindness if the faeces came into direct contact with the eyes

MousyMouse · 14/05/2012 14:58

yanbu at all
dogs should be keept on the lead in all public spaces unless they are perfect at recall and close to their owner.

PandaWatch · 14/05/2012 14:58

Disclaimer - I think dog mess on the streets is disgusting and always clean up after my dog. And he never approaches strangers. And I make a concerted effort to give anyone looking nervous a wide berth. And he would never pee on anyone's stuff. But this anti-dog/all dog owners are selfish twats hysteria makes me very grouchy.

TheUnMember · 14/05/2012 15:01

My dog never approaches strangers either Panda as he's never off the lead because he's a disobedient little bugger. Unfortunately little kids make a beeline for him because they think he's a cuddly toy.

MousyMouse · 14/05/2012 15:08

I love a bun-fighty dog thread :o

D0oinMeCleanin · 14/05/2012 15:10

Didn't we do this two days ago? I thought the anti dog threads were a once a week thingy? Surely it's P and T parking today?

Dd2 to wee'd in the park a few times. Not up people's buckets though. I should train her to do that Wink

Tryharder · 14/05/2012 15:11

YANBU. A dog once came upto Dd in her pushchair and took her sandwich out of her hand and ate it! The owner didn't even look at us let alone offer to replace the sandwich.

I will admit it: my name is Tryharder and I fucking well hate dogs.

Illustrated · 14/05/2012 15:16

I dont think its unreasonable to think owners should have good control of their dogs. Doesnt it all just come down to consideration for other people? whether you have a dog or not.
I used to be completely terrified of dogs but slowly got over it and now have a dog of my own. I think thats partly why I realise your not a big evil person that hates animals if your not 100% overjoyed when theres a dog running up to you. You dont know the dog, or the owner, so its always a hit or miss whether its going to be a pleasant experience or not.
My dogs very friendly but I understand hes an animal and animals are unpredictable so I try and keep as much control over him as possible.

MousyMouse · 14/05/2012 15:16

I don't hate dogs, I am afraid of them and hate it when (some) dogowners give up their common sense and manners when they aquire a dog.

PandaWatch · 14/05/2012 15:19

The thing that I can't understand is why doesn't anyone ever start a thread about birds? You are a million times more likely to be pooed on by a bird than any other animal, loads of people are scared of them, they poo on people's cars all the time, steal food, terrorise postman (seagull specific), break arms (swan/emu specific), make a racket...the list is endless. But all the time it's about the dog owners. Hows about starting a thread attacking, for example, pigeon fanciers?

PandaWatch · 14/05/2012 15:21

Illustrated - there is nothing unreasonable in expecting dog owners to be responsible. What is unreasonable is suggesting (which I'm not saying you have) that the majority of dog owners aren't responsible.
