Friend has got the hump because DD (11) spelt out the word vagina during a scrabble game with her 7 year old DS

What's wrong with that? AIBU to find it deeply unshocking. I'm more perturbed by the fact that she probably cheated and rummaged through the bag for a v or a g to come up with that. Surely a 7 year old knows what a vag is? At least its factual and she spelt it correctly.

I would understand my friend's attitude if DD had put twat or fanny.

No. Explain the irony?

Whoopydofoxpoo · 14/05/2012 18:45

oh this is a great thread - just be grateful it wasn't Pictionary !

GrahamTribe · 14/05/2012 18:54

""Oh, don't be silly. Of course they know it's a normal word! So is fart, or bottom or willy."

You want me to explain the irony, seeker? OK, if I must. The correct or "proper" word is penis, not willy. Just as vagina is a perfectly standar, proper word, which doesn't need hiding from a 7 yo old replaced with a silly euphemism.

Flubba · 14/05/2012 18:55

Hahaha! WhoopyDo :o

Breastmilk " I got f-e-l-l-a-t-i on my rack when I played the other week " - I suppose it's better than getting a h-a-n-d-j-o-b on your rack, fnaar fnaar. :o

GrahamTribe · 14/05/2012 18:55

It's the keyboard, not me, honestly! I meant, "Just as vagina is a perfectly standarD, proper word, which doesn't need hiding from a 7 yo old OR replaced with a silly euphemism."

Decorum?

Decorum?

seeker · 14/05/2012 19:10

Ah, I was just thinking of words that would produce giggles.

As I said, of course they are normal words. And they are words used in my family. But not in every family. and I would expect an 11 year old of mine to be a little careful when dealing with a much younger child.

Whoopydofoxpoo · 14/05/2012 19:13

We can expect all we want of an 11 yr old but would they really use some decorum in this matter ?

Be good if they could spell it on the board may get some more points !

Anyone for Charades ? Grin

Gin30 · 14/05/2012 19:23

I find a weird childish delight in finding rude words on the word game app. Grin

Charleymouse - I'm 32 and just had to google the word quim as I had never heard this before. Shock

Whoopydofoxpoo · 14/05/2012 19:26

I'm 46 and just googled it ! Will use next when playing scrabble with the inlaws !

lou2321 · 14/05/2012 20:03

How can it be inappropriate as its probably one of the nicer words to use and its the actual correct word for it - and also its really funny Grin

I made my brother guess the word cunt once when we were playing pictionary by tricking him into a 'sounds like' and said just go through the alphabet. It was in front of my nan who was about 80 at the time. We were about 9 - it was really funny especially as my brother was the one who got told off. I think my dad would have laughed normally but was really embarrassed in front of my nan!

Childish I know but still funny. BTW I would be cross at them if either of my DCs used words like that but I do have a childish sense of humour so would probably laugh after!

ApocalypseThen · 14/05/2012 20:48

This is ridiculous.

It's quite right that this girl uses the word vagina. It's a fully acceptable word to use for scrabble. How is an eleven year old supposed to know that she should use the correct word and that a vagina is not a disgusting, dirty secret, and also that she should never refer to it when among the under 8 set?

I'm long past eleven and I'm finding it all very complex.

Your vagina is either unsuitable and shameful or it isn't.

ByGrabtharsHammer · 14/05/2012 21:16

When I was aged about seven, my mother made me enter a local library children's competition which involved making as many words as possible out of the phrase "Humberside County Council". She cheated by doing the answers for me and included the word "cunt". She is not British. I did not win the contest.

lolajane2009 · 14/05/2012 22:26

smart girl

LadyMontdore · 14/05/2012 22:44

Someone down the thread said that even their 2 yo uses the term vagina. Eh? How does a 2 yo ever, ever need to discuss their vagina? My dds are, as yet, unaware of their existence - they just have bottoms (or if they need to be really descriptive poo-hole or wee-wee hole Hmm). Not that I object to the term it just has never arisen and I can't think how it would - obviously it will but not quite yet! DD does think that babies chew their way out through the mummies tummy button though (maybe has watched too many chicks hatch).

Poulay · 14/05/2012 22:45

I was playing Scrabble with my parents and played 'cunt'. It was the best I could come up with. Blush

edam · 14/05/2012 22:48

Sandy, your friend's a loon but she's provoked a really funny thread title, thanks for giving me a giggle. Grin And ruddy well done to your dd, impressive word play there!

Flubba · 14/05/2012 22:50

Hahahahaha Grabthars :o :o priceless!

Beaaware · 14/05/2012 22:54

oh for goodness sake its just a word sandyballs, could have been much worse and been rogue or prions

ImBetterThanYou · 14/05/2012 22:58

Yanbu, did your friends son know what it meant and was embarrassed resulting in your friends annoyance or was it because he hadnt heard the word before?

When I was 7 our class got a big lecture from our teacher about how we should only use the words penis or vagina and no other daft names, but when I corrected my cousin a few weeks later at his house and told him to use the word penis instead of silly words I got into a lot of trouble - I was really confused as I couldn't figure out what I'd done wrong Confused

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 14/05/2012 22:59

I've told my DH off for playing naughty words in practically every turn against my mum in (facebook) Scrabble. She was doing the same!

The same mum (I only have one!) who laughed at me and told me off for being immature the other day because I was giggling that the dentist had mis-spelt my street name on a letter and it looked like "bellend"

Beaaware · 14/05/2012 23:06

I luv skrabble, my naughty words are in no particular order;
1.Disease
2.Prion
3.Burger
4.Mad

EllenParsons · 14/05/2012 23:34

Re quim and other such words not being accepted by Words With Friends - that is ridiculous! I play SOWPODS dictionary (am a bit of a Scrabble geek) and would be very Hmm at common SOWPODS words not being allowed.

WorraLiberty · 14/05/2012 23:59

ByGrabtharsHammer I just woke the dog laughing at that Grin

glastocat · 15/05/2012 09:34

Ellen, I know, its drives me up the wall!
