well. im trying to be typically girly and go all swoony about edward and the rather pathetic simpering bella.

but no. just not getting it.

pile of shite. what is the fuss about - really? what am i missing?

luckily for me DD thinks the same. i would have been secretly disappointed if she thought this was anything like good....

YADNBU. I have read snippets. It's a pile of shite and I do hope all the fuss has died down by the time D is of an age to read them, because some of the messages in there are horrific even if you can overlook the lousy writing.

crazyspaniel · 14/05/2012 00:32

I watched the first film to see what the fuss was. It was so bad I honestly thought it was supposed to be a spoof.

GoPoldark · 14/05/2012 00:37

Every teen generation needs its Lost Boys to get all deep and emotional about. Tis the Goth phase for those too coolio to be Goths.

my2centsis · 14/05/2012 06:21

Meh I like the movies.

Each to their own.

I however would not start a thread on a movie I hated

Ilovedaintynuts · 14/05/2012 06:50

I tried very hard to read the books and watch the films but they are utter bilge. I like to understand popular culture but I just can't with this.

I read 2-3 books a week yet my brain would not accept the twilight books, how can something so badly written be so popular.

Dear God the films. Middle aged women raving over kidney bean head Robert Pattinson. Why?

Why cast the plainest and worst actress in hollywood as the lead.?
So many questions...

RubyGates · 14/05/2012 07:21

Having, as a (goth) children's/teen librarian managed miraculously to avoid the abomination that is Twilight both in book and interminable film form; I was somewhat baffled to realise that I was actually watching it last night.

I gave it about 30mins (just so I could see what the fuss was about, was almost bored into premature sleep and turned over to something more gripping.

WTAF? Sparkle?
(Lestat would have that wuss Edward's throat out in a nano-second)

MrsHelsBels74 · 14/05/2012 07:35

I've just finished reading the series & dear lord I was bored of everyone by the end of it. Watched some of New Moon last night & I just don't get the fuss about Robert Pattinson. When he took his shirt off I actually thought I was going to be sick (but then I am pregnant). And it was just so joyless...

FallenCaryatid · 14/05/2012 07:44

Have a look on Youtube for some of the responses to the whole sorry, sparkly saga.

ComradeJing · 14/05/2012 07:48

I read all the books but found you could read approx one sentence a page and still know exactly what was happening. The overblown drivel masquerading as dialogue was just terrible. I read em because everyone raved about them and I kept waiting to see what the fuss was.

Also how on earth was the post sex bit ever included where she is covered it bruises and doesn't seem to remember how she got them? Why didn't anyone ask her wtf that was about?

Movies were even worse (though i only saw the first) HOW was she chosen to be the female lead? Surely she is the worst actress in the entire world? She always looks curiously dead behind the eyes too.

Yanbu.

perplexedpirate · 14/05/2012 08:10

YANBU. Utter bloody rubbish. Bella is just so unlikeable.

However, I do like Robert Pattinson.

differentnameforthis · 14/05/2012 08:13

Snap! It's shite.

And the messages it gives young girls are bordering on abusive!

HarlotOTara · 14/05/2012 08:27

I fell asleep in the first film and found it utter utter crap. Have thankfully never read the books and think the werewolf bloke has a very stupid looking face, Robert whatsit is not very attractive and the girl who plays Bella has a face with a perpetual scowl. Thankfully neither of my dds are taken in by the hype.

However I have friends (mature in age adults) who love the whole bloody thing. I look at them in disbelief and respect them slightly less.

Helltotheno · 14/05/2012 08:59

Will never, ever understand the hype about Robert Pattinson... good news for men everywhere though I guess.

Mrsjay · 14/05/2012 09:02

YANBU i have sat through gaylight and tried the 2nd pile of shite and it is a twinkley pile of shite , I hate it , depressed teen falls for dead person undead person stalks depressed teen , yep a great film Grin saying all that dd2 loves it , although she is into wolfboy and not the undead one , grown ups who love twilight un nerve me , its for teenagers ,

AutumnSummers · 14/05/2012 09:05

It's Glampire trash. Kill it Buffy, KILL IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Mrsjay · 14/05/2012 09:07

ruby you are right Lestatt did not sparkle saying that Louis was beautiful sigh

AutumnSummers · 14/05/2012 09:08

Lestat was crap because he was played by Tom Cruise. The Lestat in the books was magnificent.

Mrsjay · 14/05/2012 09:08

Jack whitehall went to school with robert pattison he does a very funny routine about it , about mrs whitehall meeting mrs pattison in sainsbury for some competitiive parenting Grin i cant do link but i think its on youtube ,

AutumnSummers · 14/05/2012 09:09

Stuart Townsend was a better choice in Queen of the Damned. I liked him :)

Mrsjay · 14/05/2012 09:10

yes Lestatt in the books is better than tom cruise obviously because its tom cruise , but i did actually love Louis maybe edward does the same for todays 14 yr old girls perhaps you need the 14 yr old angst to appreciate it .

Mrsjay · 14/05/2012 09:11

I thought queen of the Damned was awful just awful Hmm did you like it Autumn , i am maybe a little older than you ,

AmazingBouncingFerret · 14/05/2012 09:13

I love to hate it.

It makes me rant incoherently but I've still been to the cinema to watch every single one.

Blush

Plus it makes a nice evening out with my niece.

AutumnSummers · 14/05/2012 09:15

I did like it. I thought it a rather good adaptation of the book.

Louis always gave me the impression of a weak, whiny little blouse. In the books, he's the weakest of all vampires for quite some time.

Ooh! I just remembered that Antonio banderas played the Vampire Armand. Yum.

Mrsjay · 14/05/2012 09:18

ARMAND now that is a vampire Grin I may dig out my books , my 19 yr old has them she isnt into twilight at all and takes the piss everytime dd2 talks about it ,

Mrsjay · 14/05/2012 09:19

im sorry but Brad pitt as louis is just PHWOAAAR he is weak because he has a sould simpers
