All you lot with your neat bobs are uptight and repressed. Long hair is the best for men, women and children!!

I've always had mine long. Don't plan to cut it unless it goes thin, neither do I plan to dye it because, shock horror, I have more than a few greys. MIL told me, when I first met her, that she was not allowed to "go grey" or have long hair, these were the FIL's instructions when they got marriedShock

MarieFromStMoritz · 09/05/2012 05:15

Bra strap length is the perfect length for looking youthful. Any longer, and it is very ageing.

sashh · 09/05/2012 08:58

Mine is short at the moment, I grow it until I can have a 20cm ponytail and then it gets chopped off and sent to the little princess trust.

I am not repressed, I just think a bald 8 yearold needs my hair more than I do.

I challenge you to have it cut for little princes and princess.

confusedpixie · 09/05/2012 09:16

Sashh: if you don't mind me adding to your post, little princesses really appreciate longer hair too, as their wig suppliers lop off a couple of inches so the wigs tend to be quite short if you send in less than term inches, so all you with lovely long hair, if you ever do cut it off do think of donating it! I've donated mine to locks of love in the past and will be donating to little princesses this time (they never took hair the last time I donated!)

bewitchedandbewildered · 09/05/2012 09:26

A woman's hair is her crowning glory.

I prefer my hair long because I look like my brothers when it is short!

I don't mind at all, the first time I had my then waist legnth hair chopped I couldn't find a British charity to take it.

Maybe we could encourage a mumsnet giant donation?

Sometimes I fantasise about getting my hair cut into a shoulder length bob and having soft curls or a twenties kind of wave. I'm not immune to the bob at all and have spent most of my life from the age of fourteen between having a lovely sixties style asymmetrical bob, a twenties style precision bob, and varying long lengths of messy layers.

Long hair requires a lot more love because it can very quickly move into straggly, unloved territory. Long hair is there to have stuff done to it.

But I hate hair extensions - they kind of freak me out a little. That massive Barbie-esque look where there is SO MUCH hair like Jordan - her hair frightens me more than her breast implants Wink

A harsher, precision bob is harder to pull off, I think. I don't think I actually suited mine because I have a heart shaped face and weird eyes. But when I'm approaching mid-forties, I will definitely be moving into a haircut that emphasises jawlines a bit more Grin

My hair is too thick to grow. It grows outwards and i very difficult to manage when very long. I need layers when it get very long or it is just too heavy. It is also very wavy so takes an age to style. I have it just past my shoulders atthe moment and I'm going for layers soon.

My DH had long hair when I met him. He wa a ringer for Marylin Manson! I do love the long hair on a man.

DD1 has very long hair. It's beautiful. DS1 has thich hair and a massive cows lick so no long hair for him but DS2 has sift blond hair that will grow nicely, so I'm growing it. DD2 will hopefully suit long locks as well.

GrumbleAndGrouse · 09/05/2012 10:54

Another one making the most of long hair while i am still youngish enough to pull it off.

Dreading the time when i should really cut it off Sad.

confusedpixie · 09/05/2012 10:58

sashh: I couldn't either, Little Princesses started taking hair a couple of years ago but stopped taking it for a short while too.

Wow, did you manage to get it sent to another charity in a different country? Seems a bit crazy that it's only started being accepted over here by charities a short while ago! More and more people are being encouraged to sell it nowdays :(

My old charge, who was 8 when I looked after her and is now 11ish, had hair she could sit on and when she cut it into a bob earlier this year I got a text asking about the charity I'd sent mine too. I was very proud of her for remembering and for wanting too donate it :) Mine can't get to waist length without extremem thinning due to the weight of it do it's either the length or amount for me with donating!

We should try a big MN hair donation drive, it'd be brilliant if it worked! Grin I wonder how many people would actually donate?

OrmIrian · 09/05/2012 10:59

I have just had it cut off. And I am very happy. If you have lovely long hair that always looks lustrous and gorgeous I can see why you like it. I had brown rats skimpy tails that made me look older than my already advanced years. DD's hair is the same as mine (although thicker) and she looks far better with shorter hair.

But DS1 has long blond butter coloured hair, thick and soft, and I love it. I don';t like to see little kids with bullet heads.

ginnybag · 09/05/2012 11:06

Mine's down to my knees....

Sorry, Bobbers, but it sticks straight out from head if it's shorter than mid back and is seriously just sooo much easier when long.

And, since once it's sitting-on length, nothing extra makes much difference, I figured why not?

It's the front cover of a medieval romance novel when left completely down, mind, so that doesn't happen much!

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 09/05/2012 11:31

I love long hair too, mine is half way down my back at the moment, I had to have it cut as it was really tatty and in bad condition at the ends but I am trying to grow it longer.

DD1 has long curly hair down past her bum and DD2 has straight hair to her waist and I think they look gorgeous.

I don't think my DH would look good with long hair, especially as it is really curly and would go into ringlets!

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 09/05/2012 11:38

I think it totally depends on the person. Long hair can look lovely, and so can short hair. I do think a woman generally needs stronger features to carry off really short hair though. I've had both. Currently it's half chin length, with an undercut and one side is shaved.

I think shaved bits are sexy on women Grin

Ithinkitsjustme · 09/05/2012 11:51

YANBU to love long hair, YABU to generalise about people who don't feel the same. I keep changng my mind about my own hair, I have had long hair to my waist and cut it off and regrown it and cut it off again so many times I've lost count. My oldest DD has long hair, my youngest's hair just won't grow :(. My DS's hate having ther hair cut and end up at the point where they really can't see anything befor efinaly agreeing to get it done. I used to love long hair on men, but tbh, I think I''ve grown out of it! Probably because men of a certain age (namely mine) look ridiculous with bald heads and pony tails.

HappySeven · 09/05/2012 12:35

I've never had long hair (I'm one of 4 and it seemed easier to my mum to just keep it short). I've lost count of the times people have said "have you ever had it long?" as though it would be bound to look better (often men to be fair).

It's curly but not a strong curl so I keep it as a short "bob" to try and not look unkempt which it tends to be when it gets near my shoulders. My DD now has longish hair and I've no idea how to look after it but don't want to just chicken out and cut it off.

kickingking · 09/05/2012 13:34

My MIL has bum length hair. It is black and grey streaked, dry, coarse and frizzy. MIL is 60 and morbidly obese. Her hair is witchy and horrid. The DC are afraid of her hair touching them. She us always swishing it around as she believes it is her best feature.

YABU.

PeggyBabcockBoot · 12/05/2012 08:43

Yuck. Very old fashioned & creepy. A coven of religious types around our way have bum length hair and little head scarves.

Sallyingforth · 12/05/2012 12:42

My beloved DP has shoulder length hair and it's naturally very wavy.
