All you lot with your neat bobs are uptight and repressed. Long hair is the best for men, women and children!!

I need to keep my hair longish or else it springs up and looks like an explosion in a mattress factory absolutely nothing.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 08/05/2012 21:40

My neat bob is shiny, expensive and classy looking.

As for men and boys with long hair, no thanks.

MrsPlanB · 08/05/2012 21:43

It tends to be a bit TOWIE on women over late 20s, but each to their own.

Goldrill · 08/05/2012 21:45

Mine is now waist length, thick, wavy and a lovely shade of blonde - it is vair lovely indeed in fact. I am nearly 40 and no grey yet.

Except you'd never bloody know because it is tied up in a double-ponytail/knot thing on my head ALL the time - I even sleep with it like that now in case I have to get up to DD in the night. (Also have woken with it wrapped around my neck quite tightly so not a good plan). It is too impractical to have it down for work and I'm rubbish at plaits and pretty styles. I take it down every four days or so, wash it, tie it back up and it is usually dry within a couple of days. DD actually looked scared when she saw it down the other day!

But there is no way in the world I could be organised enough to get myself to the hairdresser on a regular basis, so it will just have to stay like that.

YANBU I love long hair really envy people who have thick glossy hair. Mine is longish but fine. Think long hair flatters most people more than short. There are a few people that really pull off shorter styles though Natalie Imbruligo being one.It showed her features off better.

Noqontrol · 08/05/2012 22:33

I see you are beyond saving. May I suggest a woolly bobble hat to hide said frizzy curls in?

Noqontrol · 08/05/2012 22:37

Dammit, it's me that's beyond saving for not bring able to read properly. (assumption about frizzy curls).

nothingoldcanstay · 08/05/2012 22:43

What are you going to do with short hair when you are really old though?

Long hair done up looks practical and elegant whereas short bobs start to look tragic. Sort of the opposite of having to look smart when you hit your 40's or you look a total mess.
Looking too "done" including hair is a bad old lady look IMO

ifancyashandy · 08/05/2012 22:49

I shall stay with my crop. Like Judy Dench & Helen Mirren and a whole host of other tragic ladies with short hair!

Pooka · 08/05/2012 22:55

Yabu

I have long hair, because it suits me. I don't have the right shaped face for short hair.

If i did have heart shaped or elfin face, then would happily chop it into gorgeous crop do, a la agynes deny, Emma Watson, Helen midden, cafe blanchett. Would be lovely in the summer when it's too hot for long hair (mine is very thick and straight).

nothingoldcanstay · 08/05/2012 22:55

Well I think Helen Mirren looks amazing in general but I still like her up do better than her Oscar hair which looks a bit thin TBH. Not sure how you'd pull it off without a lot of spray and a great hairdresser.

I'll give you Judy though!

Pooka · 08/05/2012 22:56

Deyn.
Cate.

Bloody autocorrect.

fuckbucket · 08/05/2012 22:59

arf Helen Midden!

Noqontrol · 08/05/2012 23:02

Do you have to start looking smart in your 40s? I've never thought about it, although I must have on some subconscious level as I've started to make more effort at the grand old age of 43. Although I do still have longish hair, perhaps it's time to cut it off Sad

nothingoldcanstay · 08/05/2012 23:09

No don't cut it (well I'm not going to -need it for my grand french pleat when I'm old and sophisticated).

But I think you have do some sort of re adjustment at 40 because otherwise you look just badly dressed -as opposed to thrown together which you looked like 10 years ago. Or you look like mutton which is my dodgy look at the moment. Must try harder.

BigFatSpider · 08/05/2012 23:12

My hair is almost exactly like Goldrill's - waist length, lovely golden colour, washed and tied up to dry every four or so days. Oh, except mine isn't wavy. I covet waviness. Don't own a hairdryer and certainly don't need straighteners! Can probably count on one hand the number of times I've been to the hairdresser in my whole almost 35 yr old life. One of my favourite tricks when I'm doing a performance (classical musician) is to do the first half of the concert hair up, then emerge after the interval all Rapunzel and swishy. Love the audience double-takes! Grin

Noqontrol · 08/05/2012 23:36

Oh it's so sad that you have to do a readjustment at 40. I'll start tomorrow properly then Wink
bigfatspider I guess you don't really look like a big fat spider then? Grin

confusedpixie · 08/05/2012 23:45

YABU, I hate my long hair, as soon as it's long enough to donate it's getting lopped off again. I have to use so much conditioner to get a brush through it that it's greasy within 6 hours of washing. It tangles constantly. It has no shape to it. It's so thick that I can't style it without half a can of spray. I hate it and want my nice chin length cut back!

Of course, if you have nice, not too thick, soft hair I bet it is very nice to have long hair Grin

knowitallstrikesagain · 08/05/2012 23:51

YANBU as long as no one is making you keep your hair like that as if you are some kind of living doll. Do what you want with your hair, it will grow back! Wink

MrsBovary · 08/05/2012 23:55

You're quite right, on all counts.

I decided to grow my hair long again (after having shoulder length for a long time) a couple of years ago, and it's now so much more manageable, and flexible in terms of styling choices. I too love to set it in large rollers for a soft wave.

My eldest dd has hair below waist length, and intends never to cut it, apparently.

BigFatSpider · 08/05/2012 23:57

Ah yes, noquontrol - moment of low self-esteem whilst trying to think of NN to register around Hallowe'en time! Perhaps I should change to BigFatSpiderWithDepressinglyFatArseButBloodyLufflyHair Grin

McHappyPants2012 · 09/05/2012 00:22

Looks at mine and wants it shoulder length instead of under lower bra strap length

Empusa · 09/05/2012 02:04

I grew mine to about halfway down my back, then realised it really fucked me off and chopped it off. I'm so glad to have short hair again! Though give it a while and I'll start craving 1940's hairstyles again and grow it out, only to chop it off when I remember it's totally unmanageable long. Grin
