I remember an MN'er who put her dog shit covered wellies in the dishwasher!Shock < faints and boaks at same time>

Bumdrop · 09/05/2012 23:10

A dishwasher WILL sterilise if its put on a above 60 degree wash .... DOH !

bogeyface · 09/05/2012 23:12

I know that it sterilises but........

you know!! Its grotty!

bogeyface · 09/05/2012 23:13

Oh and it may sterilise but have you seen the state of the average grease trap in a dishwasher? That dog poo or whatever may actually still be clinging to it weeks later if you dont take it out immediately and wash it thoroughly.

so yes, it is fucking gross!

OfCourseImAlwaysRight · 09/05/2012 23:14

used gloves in DW is disgusting!! contamination risk. im a DN and we change gloves between each patient- each and every one, some people think that between familys it would be o.k to use the same gloves.
the gloves had been inside your mary and she then put them in your dishwasher- THAT IS FOUL!!!!!!!!

Bumdrop · 09/05/2012 23:14

I agree !!!
Some doughnut on here said they have seen a loo brush go in the dishwasher ....
Can't get my head round that one at all !!!!

AnnieLobeseder · 09/05/2012 23:15

But WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYY wouldn't slippers and tea towels/dishcloths go in the WASHING MACHINE?!

Dishwasher - hard things made out of metal/ceramic/plastic, on which food is prepared or eaten.
Washing machine - soft things made out of fabric, that you wear, not eat.

And that's all there is to it!

GinPalace · 09/05/2012 23:16

Bogey I am content to be in the minority then! rather that than lazy revolting habits.

Yes - I would also feel like being very honest about why I can't eat at their house but OOOoooo what a can of worms / pandoras box that could be.

Apparently hankys are too small as he is too snotty. He did it in a napkin at a meal out we went for once - we were all horrified (including his dp my friend) he couldn't understand why. I nearly threw up. We had to explain that the poor waitress who cleared up was probably not expecting to find a snot parcel icky napkin in her hand and how horrid it would be for her. He still didn't get it.

GinPalace · 09/05/2012 23:17

Not a paper napkin either. :(

DeathByChocolate01 · 09/05/2012 23:20

My flatmate at uni used to cough and sneeze into dishcloths and tea-towels - he'd hack up a load of phlegm into them and then carry on wiping his plates. Shock It made me gag.

I don't think I'd put dog bowls in the dishwasher, but I probably would put stirrups in there... maybe I have odd priorities.

bogeyface · 09/05/2012 23:21

I used to work as a waitress and that doesnt surprise me at all. Some people are like animals when someone else is clearing up after them.

OfCourseImAlwaysRight · 09/05/2012 23:22

dishwashers do not sterilise!! maybe all hospitals should buy them instead of autoclaves?? would you agree?

rainydaysarebad · 09/05/2012 23:24

Goes off to watch Embarrassing Bodies, after reading "Bum Funnel" on first page.

Bumdrop · 09/05/2012 23:24

If dishwashers DON'T sterilise on a high temp cycle, how come it's ok to STERILSE baby's bottles etc on the top shelf ?

CointreauVersial · 09/05/2012 23:27

AnnieLo - thank god it's not just me. The world's gorn maaaad.

DISHwasher.....the clue is in the name!!

TipsyShambles · 09/05/2012 23:32

GinPalace, you should blow your nose on his trouserleg. What a revolting man!

I merrily put the dogs bowls in the dishwasher, along with our own plates and cups.. the heat of the steam that comes out of that thing when I open the door convinces me that no bug is going to live on anything in there.. it is ferocious!.. but I still wouldnt wash ashtrays, or slippers in there at the same time as eating utensils..

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 10/05/2012 07:36

Oh I read all the thread to see if the dog shit wellies had been mentioned and I get all the way to last page to see that they have. Bugger!

CravingSleep · 10/05/2012 08:04

Is it ok to sterilisd bottles and dummies then? I've got a separate steriliser and had no idea. We hardly use it and I could get rid of it if so!

EasilyBored · 10/05/2012 09:58

But dishwashers use the same water throughout the wash, so all the poo/snot/dog food would be swilled around everything else, and then baked on when it gets really hot. Has no one else ever put in a dish that hadn't been scraped off properly and found mash/pasta etc baked onto dishes that then need to be cleaned with a chisel?!

I'm gagging at the idea of people blowing their nose on dishtowels. I have snot issues.
