To think some mothers are just SHIT.

Today at Legoland it wad raining quite heavily. I saw a mum and a little girl standing outside the toilets. The mum was dressed warmly and the little girl (about 5 yrs) had shorts, T-shirt, cardigan and a pair of Crocs. She was cold and visibly shivering. The mum said "take your cardigan off" so the little girl took her cardi off and the mum proceeded to place the hood of it on her head ( a la Batman stylee) to stop her fucking hair getting wet?!?!
Some mums are just SHIT and no, IANBU.

Nope, YANBU. I trained as a nurse for a while, I wanted to take some of the children home with me. It's a lack of education or common sense sometimes. Sad

MrsCornish · 07/05/2012 23:20

to protect her own hair, or her dd's? Sounds indefensibly shit so far...

FoofyShmooffer · 07/05/2012 23:21

Good God.

toofattorun · 07/05/2012 23:21

PS I also saw Cerys Matthews there and wanted to give her a little slap. WIBU?

LadySybilDeChocolate · 07/05/2012 23:22

I don't know who that is. Confused

AnAirOfHope · 07/05/2012 23:23

I think some parents just cant emphsise with there children. They cant see them as little people but object to be order about.

lucyellensmumnamechange · 07/05/2012 23:24

If she was the mother of the poor child outside the toilets then yes yanbu, otherwise, im not sure who she is either

AnAirOfHope · 07/05/2012 23:24

Why would you slap her?

StealthPolarBear · 07/05/2012 23:25

Well wet hair makes me cold
Ds was at the zoo yesterday in a t shirt. What you couldn't see was that he had a thermal vest on, and I was asking every 10 mins of he wanted hos jumper back, to which he said no
He's only 23, poor little.mite

LadySybilDeChocolate · 07/05/2012 23:25

It's very difficult for some people to put the needs of others before themselves. Very important for parents IMO.

toofattorun · 07/05/2012 23:25

MrsCornish The mum placed it on her own head, leaving the poor little thing with just a T-shirt in the cold pouring rain. Unbelievable. I was left speechless which only happens once every 20 years

StealthPolarBear · 07/05/2012 23:26

Oh. Erm...yes, thats bad!

TeaTeaLotsOfTea · 07/05/2012 23:28

I always wondered if it really was a lack of education learnt behaviour or actual choice to treat your children like pieces of shit.

I was raised by an evil abusive mother whose excuse for beating my brother and I was that she had PMS.

I am nothing like my mother so clearly not learnt behaviour there/

I have worked on the legal side of child protection so at the point when parents/carers are being prosecuted and the children are now in other care.

I once saw pictures of house that would have been on a life of grime. Lack of education you would think, however on the wall was a picture of all of the children dressed beautifully with their mother for a professional photo shoot so if she could do it then why couldn't she do it all the time??

Some parents beat their children and their parents never beat them so that isn't learnt. You chose to be responsible one day but not the next???

I know that the filthy house mother could have had depression though there was no record of this.

I think some people do it through choice and some people it is learnt.

She is that woman (part of the group Catatonia) who sang Road Rage back in the 90s. She was on The Voice the other week with Tom Jones. She was also in I'm a Celebrity and got it on with some bloke off Eastenders (and broke up their relationship). She has a very smug look.

BadDayAtTheOrifice · 07/05/2012 23:32

Wa it Cerys who had said under-dressed child?

toofattorun · 07/05/2012 23:37

TeaTea - That's awful. I too got smashed about by both parents. Not nice. I can't say that it hasn't affected me in some ways but i would never beat my child and I would never neglect them like that mum did today.

badday No, sorry, separate issue! Shouldn't have mentioned her in the same thread!

some people are just incapble of seeing consequences of their actions. Sad

bit of a bugger if you have the misfortune to live with one... even worse if they are your parent and the other parent is not around to step in.

why would you not think that child is likely to be cold if you are wearing a couple of layers of clothes and the child is not, or if you are hot in the car and take you coat off, then the child may also be hot and unable to take their coat off without you as it is strapped in a car seat.

Dee03 · 07/05/2012 23:44

I know who she is Smile

I deal with preschool children daily and youd be surprised at how many come into school NOT dressed appropriately for the westher Sad

difficultpickle · 07/05/2012 23:44

We live near Legoland. Today ds was out in the garden in the rain wearing a tshirt, jeans, my crocs and no socks. I was inside wearing a jumper and jeans. It wasn't actually that cold out today.

I wonder if the mother had the same problems I have with ds? He chooses what he wants to wear and won't be persuaded to wear something more sensible.

iscream · 07/05/2012 23:44

That would have disturbed me so much, poor little kid.

toofattorun · 07/05/2012 23:46

Absolutely right. How can anyone be THAT inconsiderate? It's utterly shocking. I should have said something like "oh, as long you're alright eh?".

OP posts:
iscream · 07/05/2012 23:46

Most mum's would have put their own sweater around their child.

toofattorun · 07/05/2012 23:50

Bisjo - was your boy shivering with cold? And if he was, would you tell him to take off a layer of clothing so you could keep your hair nice and dry? I doubt it. It was quite cold today out in the rain.

OP posts:
manicbmc · 07/05/2012 23:52

Yes, but the mother took the child's cardigan off her which is just bizarre.

We were all little buggers for going out wearing sandals and no coats when we were kids. But my parents would take our coats with us anyway, in case we were cold, which we usually were after 10 minutes.
