To actually quite like McDonalds

I have been three times to McDonalds with my kids. Once, a birthday party, once at airport in Montreal when nothing else was open, and yesterday, kids hungry after swimming and nothing in the fridge.

They were over the moon about going to Old Mcdonald's Smile they were jumping with joy at the back of the car. They asked for a happy meal - don't ask me how they knew - and the toy was a jump counter with the Olympic mascots. It's like a pedometer but for jumping and skipping. They spent about two hours skipping, dancing, jumping around the house until they got to 999 jumps, which is the highest the counter will go. They spent half an hour online, checking the website, and then they decided to come up with their own mascot for the olympics. One is called Guru (don't ask) and the other one is Wallus. They played with their 'mascots' all evening, built airplanes and cars for them, it basically kept them entertained for the entire day.

I now quite like McDonalds. He has kept my kids entertained for a entire rainy day. AIBU?

YANBU

I'm lovin it

Bumblefeck · 07/05/2012 22:43

YANBU

ANYTHING that keeps kids entertained for the whole day is a good thing :o

I used to like McDonalds before DS, sadly my pregnancy craving was for McD's. After eating about a million chicken nuggets and several thousand quarter pounders, plus milkshakes every time I have gone off it :o

Luckily DS doesn't like burgers, not even home made ones so I don't get nagged to go there

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2012 22:47

My DS2 has never liked burgers (or the buns) but he's a sucker for a chicken select meal!

Sassybeast · 07/05/2012 22:54

I have no problem with McDonalds as an occasional treat. Am very partial to a big Mac. And a dairy milk Mcflurry.....

MrsCornish · 07/05/2012 22:55

My name is Mrs Cornish and I am lovin' it!

Portofino · 07/05/2012 22:55

Quarterpounder with cheese. What is not to like? Dd likes a Happy Meal as a special treat. Maybe not every day....Some people are just snobs.

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2012 22:57

I hadn't had a Maccy Dees for a few months until I read a thread about it last week.

I just had to have one then...so thanks OP! Hmm Grin

LibrarianByDay · 07/05/2012 23:00

Mmmmmm

A Chicken McSandwich. Grin

marriedinwhite · 07/05/2012 23:04

We liked it too. Not as the basis of a diet but every couple of weeks - yes please. Actually, I quite miss it now the chiddlers very sophisticated teenagers Grin do sushi and waggamama's. Sad

wonderstuff · 07/05/2012 23:04

I really like it. We go as a treat maybe every couple of months. You have to be careful which one though - the one in our town centre had 4 obese (honestly really really fat) children dining last time I was there - all under 10 - put me off. Our local drive through seems to attrat the more occaisional diner.

StealthPolarBear · 07/05/2012 23:05

Is this thread for real?

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2012 23:06

No Stealth you're in a wine induced coma and this is actually a thread about parent and child parking.

Grin
wonderstuff · 07/05/2012 23:07

Why wouldnt it be? mcDs are quite popular..

StealthPolarBear · 07/05/2012 23:07

I knew it! What about my concise and factually accurate statistical discussion on a more highbrow thread

wonderstuff · 07/05/2012 23:08

Wish I was as funny as Worra..

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2012 23:08

I'll go read it if you promise me a McNugget for my trouble

StealthPolarBear · 07/05/2012 23:09

It's the "how would they know?" Comments and the offputting obese children that just makes it sound like the basis for a dm "let's poke fun at the fat , uneducated people" article

akaemmafrost · 07/05/2012 23:11

Love McDonalds. The very nicest thing they do is not sold in the UK though Sad. It's called a McGriddle and it's part of the breakfast menu in the states. It's a maple syrup flavour scone type thing with the usual egg, cheese, bacon or sausage combo on it, it is utterly scrumptious and is probably number 3 in my Top Ten of nicest things I have ever eaten.

Usually have a cheeseburger or Big Mac.

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2012 23:14

wonderstuff my DH often says that but with a sarcastic scowl on his face...

Hmmm not sure about the maple syrup aka does it taste sweet then?

StealthPolarBear · 07/05/2012 23:17

MIDDLE CLASS MUMS RESONSIBLE FOR OBESITY TIMEBOMB

Mum on middle class parenting website have declared fast food chain McDonald's "not too bad", and many admit it is a staple in their children's diets. However the greasy burgers and fries are contributing to a nation of fatties that sees 19% of England's secondary pupils obese. Mia from Norfolk is mum to two teenage children and admits to treating them to a big Mac (insert description of big mac to flatter dm readers that they are somehow above this) once or twice a week...etc

lucyellensmumnamechange · 07/05/2012 23:18

so, you'll eat McD's Worraliberty but you would rather shit in your hands and clap than have lovely home made rhubarb jam? HmmGrin

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2012 23:20

Oh yes absolutely lucy!! Grin

It's not so much the rhubarb but the ginger that I can't stand

Oh and then there's the fact that I don't have a sweet tooth

Oh yes and I don't like jam Grin

Aquilla · 07/05/2012 23:20

North Americans love the sweet with the savoury, don't they? I must say, after I visited Canada I never ate french toast (eggy bread) without sugar sprinkles again and always order my pancakes with banana, bacon AND maple syrup!
I love Fillet o'fish (?) best

akaemmafrost · 07/05/2012 23:20

It does taste sweet but it works. Like pancakes with syrup.

StealthPolarBear · 07/05/2012 23:22

Pancakes and toast are neutral, they work with sweet and savoury. Other than that I can't stand savoury & sweet together
