To actually quite like McDonalds

I have been three times to McDonalds with my kids. Once, a birthday party, once at airport in Montreal when nothing else was open, and yesterday, kids hungry after swimming and nothing in the fridge.

They were over the moon about going to Old Mcdonald's Smile they were jumping with joy at the back of the car. They asked for a happy meal - don't ask me how they knew - and the toy was a jump counter with the Olympic mascots. It's like a pedometer but for jumping and skipping. They spent about two hours skipping, dancing, jumping around the house until they got to 999 jumps, which is the highest the counter will go. They spent half an hour online, checking the website, and then they decided to come up with their own mascot for the olympics. One is called Guru (don't ask) and the other one is Wallus. They played with their 'mascots' all evening, built airplanes and cars for them, it basically kept them entertained for the entire day.

I now quite like McDonalds. He has kept my kids entertained for a entire rainy day. AIBU?

Ewwwwww no I really dont have a sweet tooth

I've never actually had a McFlurry either Shock

MissCeliaFoote · 07/05/2012 23:24

There is a Maccy D's right outside my bus stop. The amount of mornings I get tempted by the smell of McMuffins and go in to order myself a double egg and bacon is truly shameful...

FoofyShmooffer · 07/05/2012 23:25

Yanbu.

The McTexas gubbins with McWaffle style chips was damned good. Grin

However, the McFish is shit.

cricketballs · 07/05/2012 23:32

don't like their burgers (much prefer Burger King!), but sausage and egg McMuffin in the morning is heaven!

startail · 07/05/2012 23:32

UANBU

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2012 23:34

See I prefer Burger King's fries to MaccyDee fries.

Where is the OP?? Damn her!! I'm going to be drooling into my pillow all night long Angry

Mmmmmm shakes.....

MumPaula · 08/05/2012 00:54

I love McDonalds too, my guilty pleasure. Grin
I get Dd the apple slices (instead of fries) along with chicken nuggets and a drink of milk. I confiscate the sweet and sour dipping sauce, she doesn't like it but I looove it.
Do they give the choice of apples or fries in UK?
My favorite is a Big Mac, I have been good and not eaten one in many months, I've been just getting a big coffee and having a caffeine high so I can get the shopping done with Dd.

AmberLeaf · 08/05/2012 01:01

I got the apple slices once for my son......we forgot about them and they were in my handbag for about a week.......they were pristine!

I like McDonalds though, but I tend to stick the the outright unhealthy stuff...dont trust their apples!

Moominsarescary · 08/05/2012 01:07

I prefer mcd fries but would have a milkshake from burger king over a mcdonalds one anytime.

FuckedOfftotheFarSideofFuck · 08/05/2012 01:40

They have just introduced smaller fries in the Happy Meal here in Canada and are including a Danonino strawberry fromage frais/yoghurty thing. You can also choose apple slices instead of fries (though I have never been asked which I want for my DD, I guess you'd have to specify..which I don't! Must ask her next time we got there!)

I like the odd McDonalds meal too and DD also calls it Old McDonalds. She knows it's a treat and not something that's a good idea to eat all the time.

DoubleNegativePanda · 08/05/2012 02:37

Yes, they just introduced the smaller fries in the happy meal here as well. I never get asked if we want fries or apples, we just state whichever we want that day.

akaemmafrost I had a sausage McGriddle for breakfast last Saturday

DoubleNegativePanda · 08/05/2012 02:38

I've made it sound as though we eat there constantly. We don't; the nearest McDonald's is twenty miles away and we go there when we've gone "to town" for a huge shop. We live in the middle of nowhere!

GateGipsy · 08/05/2012 03:21

I loooove McDonalds. Or Burger King. It is quick, it is easy, and when you're out somewhere you know there's one somewhere handy. And cheap. My son doesn't actually like anything they do except the buns, so we get a happy meal and split it between us. He has the bun and I have the chips. It is more of a snack than anything else, but it keeps the snarling hunger beast at bay.

ripsishere · 08/05/2012 06:55

I would kill for a mcbreakfast now. Not the eggs, eggs are horrible. The bacon muffin is lovely though.
DD was weaned on McDs. I used to go and buy her a portion of chips then stick them individually in the A/C vents of our car to cool them down.

Ilovedaintynuts · 08/05/2012 07:06

My favourite food in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD is McDonalds quarterpounders with cheese.

It is like sinking your teeth in to a little bit of heaven. I think I may have had a small orgasm conjuring up the memory.

There is officially nothing in the whole universe nicer. I have no control where they are concerned.

I would let my children starve rather than share.

BTW did someone up thread say "you would rather shit in your hands and clap"? Grin

catgirl1976 · 08/05/2012 07:31

I'm Canadian (by birth but left v young) Aquilla and maple syrup on bacon and eggs is food of the gods.

McDs maple syrup isnt right though :(

I hane 2 words though... Big. Tasty. amazing...and a weeks worth of calories, fat and salt handily packaged into one burger. What's not to love?

lattelov3r · 08/05/2012 10:22

I love mcdonalds but these days i cant eat any take out including mcdonalds, burger king etc as it sets off my IBS :(

ClaimedByMe · 08/05/2012 10:29

McDonalds sets off my IBS too so my dc dont get it often but for my neices birthday a few weeks ago they got one and my dd 9 asked for a cheeseburger happy meal, it has been that long since she had one that she was still hungry after eating it!

monkeymoma · 08/05/2012 10:37

I like the odd McDonalds, if you have a child asleep in the car and you are starving you can go to drivethrough, there's one near me that has a huge free soft play in it! :-D

I have read fast food nation, yup it's bad! and 90% of the time we eat oragnic made from scratch whole foods, but if you're going to be bad - be good at it! Grin and IMO everything bad that you can say about McDs you can say about most other more acceptable middle class food chains!, in fact some of those are worse nutritionally speaking!

KellyElly · 08/05/2012 14:33

I love McDonalds and so does my daughter for a treat (not a treat for me I have a double cheeseburger with no pickle at least once a week :) ).

ILikeTrains · 08/05/2012 14:38

I found it really strange that the Maccy D's in the U.S didn't have the same menu as the U.K. I had just imagined they'd be the same the world over. Pretty sure Australia had the same as the U.K menu.

Love M.D btw, just wish there was one in my town.

picnicbasketcase · 08/05/2012 14:45

I love McDonalds food whilst also appreciating that it is pretty bloody unhealthy and try not to have it too often, made easier by there not being a branch where I live. I fool myself into thinking I'm being healthier by having a chicken wrap instead of a cheeseburger, still 460 calories though Grin
