To ask how much disposable income you have...

I have been wondering how much others have for disposable income. When I see people put in their threads 'we are comfortable, live comfortably' etc I wonder what that means...

As a family, after all the bills are paid etc we have approx £800 per month for food petrol/ entertainment and clothes etc. I am sure to some people this is pittance and to others a fortune!

Would any of you like to share what your disposable income is??

None; God, I wish!

Youattheback · 02/05/2012 12:51

No. It's in the thousands. Personally, I realise we are incredibly lucky and are more than just " comfortable".

thirdhill · 02/05/2012 12:52

Totally unreasonable.

willikillhim · 02/05/2012 12:53

hotheels · 02/05/2012 12:55

After bills, petrol and food etc about £500 only know this as we have recently calculated our finances after moving out of private rented.

mythical · 02/05/2012 12:57

Disposable income? What's that :o

mamalovesmojitos · 02/05/2012 12:59

None atm. Am healthy and have a wonderful dc. Still its a tough road at times.

motheroftwoboys · 02/05/2012 12:59

nothing - we are always overdrawn. Comes from having two boys at uni and spending too much on food. Life's too short to worry about it though.

willikillhim · 02/05/2012 13:00

yeah-I know because im constantly recalculating our finances-ever hopeful!

Whirliwig72 · 02/05/2012 13:01

Had this conversation recently with a friend. I'd say anywhere between 500 - 1000 pmc is comfortable nb this includes money for extras, holidays and emergencies.

Petsinmypudenda · 02/05/2012 13:02

After rent bills and food we have about 70 pounds a month left.

purpledragonfruit · 02/05/2012 13:02

No idea. Which is a good thing I suppose because it means I don't have to worry about it.

Voidka · 02/05/2012 13:02

Not enough
But we are happy.

SquidgyBiscuits · 02/05/2012 13:04

About £1500 after all bills, food etc.

chestnutmare · 02/05/2012 13:05

A few thousand here also, once bills/mortgage/fuel/horse is paid for. But we both work full time and have no kids yet, so I'm sure this won't always be the case!

DontmindifIdo · 02/05/2012 13:06

About £2k. We are comfortable.

Babylon1 · 02/05/2012 13:07

Nada, zip, zilch!!

BUT we have 3 healthy, happy children and I can't put a price on that, so I don't mind not having spare cash!!

Ha ha, just typing those two words together makes me laugh and reminds mr of the Peter Kay Garlic Bread sketch!!

Spare cash?? garlic bread???

Lol!!!

ginmakesitallok · 02/05/2012 13:07

A couple of thousand here after mortgage/council tax and bills. Though God only knows where it goes?

AngryFeet · 02/05/2012 13:07

About £2k for food, petrol for a greedy car and a motorbike, going out, clothes, fags etc etc. We are saving as much as we can for a house deposit plus the bonus DH gets each year goes towards the savings.

Only a few years ago we had nothing left each month but we got lucky and DH worked very hard so at the moment we don't have to worry about money too much.

encyclogirl · 02/05/2012 13:08

About 2k too. Maybe a bit more.

encyclogirl · 02/05/2012 13:09

Sorry, that's after everything.

squidworth · 02/05/2012 13:09

About 700 to 1000 pounds after most bills (Inc food) we pay insurance in one go so why it varies, but this is because we are mortgage free and drive cheap cars to run. I know people around us find it strange how well we live on a moderate income.

minipie · 02/05/2012 13:10

What Youattheback said. And also chestnutmare.

cuteboots · 02/05/2012 13:11

None at all after Ive paid all my bills but me and my little boy are doing ok

OrmIrian · 02/05/2012 13:12

After the essential regular bills are paid I guess we have about £600 a month. But that has to cover clothes and school trips etc. DH has disposable income too but atm he's paying off an overdraft so nothing to spare.
