To ask how much disposable income you have...

I have been wondering how much others have for disposable income. When I see people put in their threads 'we are comfortable, live comfortably' etc I wonder what that means...

As a family, after all the bills are paid etc we have approx £800 per month for food petrol/ entertainment and clothes etc. I am sure to some people this is pittance and to others a fortune!

Would any of you like to share what your disposable income is??

£70 a week to pay for petrol, food, nappies, dog & cat food and entertainment (dancing and swimming lessons).

It's tough but we manage. We grow our own veg, cook our own cakes and I cut our hair.

We're as happy as pigs 'n sh*t

TheCunningStunt · 02/05/2012 13:12

Not a lot....if any but we are comfortable and pay for two cars, kids clubs, gym etc. so a lot of our things that you may spend disposable income on is factored into it.....we eat quite frugally to afford these things though.

ifeellove · 02/05/2012 13:12

About £200 a month after food and bills - so to cover petrol/car, clothes for me and 2 Dcs, entertainment etc.

Makes saving, pensions and the future all a bit worrying but overall I'm doing ok

alphabite · 02/05/2012 13:13

About £200-£300 but only because I have a flatmate, otherwise it would be £0.

DameHermione · 02/05/2012 13:14

About £3.20 in small denominations.

SusanneLinder · 02/05/2012 13:17

About £500 atm, but thats after food, petrol bills etc.Maybe a bit more.

ArcticRain · 02/05/2012 13:17

About 2k after bills , food and petrol .

Chilenachica · 02/05/2012 13:19

I though we had tupance ha'penny, but the OH has told me we're sunk if we can't sell this house. Amazing how I could have got it so wrong, must have been wishfull thinking

badtasteflump · 02/05/2012 13:20

Well I don't know because I'm crap at organising my finances - but I know it never runs out and there's always some left when the next lot goes in - so I'm lucky I suppose.

ragged · 02/05/2012 13:22

I would say we are "comfortable", too, Probably low 4-digit-figure (£ not p).

I would think you'd need 5-digit-excess before you could consider yourself "rolling in it".

Shakey1500 · 02/05/2012 13:23

After everything has been paid (even down to lottery tickets and the odd school dinner) we have about £400 a month left.

Meglet · 02/05/2012 13:23

About £250 for food / clothes / savings / house maintenance / days out / treats.

I'm currently cutting it very fine indeed these days. This needs to be a summer of e-baying and car boots. Money is getting tighter and tighter, little children grow into big children who eat more food and clothes cost more. Everything seems to be breaking too Hmm.

babybythesea · 02/05/2012 13:24

Pretty much nothing after food and petrol, as well as other bills.

And we often go overdrawn.
But, I don't have any credit card debt or anything, so nothing to pay back - it could be worse.

buttonmoon78 · 02/05/2012 13:27

About £200 after food etc. It's not a lot and is our emergency fund as well as entertainment. Consequently we don't go out much.

I wonder if that's why we've got 4 dcs? And therefore even less money? Grin

AmazingBouncingFerret · 02/05/2012 13:28

Money's tight atm because i'm out of a job.

Cheers Mothercare

I actually have no idea. I've been on maternity leave forever and finances when I get back to work are all a bit of a mystery.

BonnieBumble · 02/05/2012 13:31

£300 pm which has to pay for food, unexpected emergencies and presents etc. It is nowhere near enough!

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 02/05/2012 13:32

After food and petrol? Nothing.

willikillhim · 02/05/2012 13:35

see- its all gotta be relative innit. I would feel like I was rolling in it if I had £1000 per month disposable income

buttonmoon78 · 02/05/2012 13:36

What willlikillhim said ^^

theodorakis · 02/05/2012 13:36

About £3500 but we live tax, rent and utilities free and get free petrol so we would be shit if we didn't.

BayCityR0llers · 02/05/2012 13:37

We have about £2500/month coming in, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Outgoings:
Mortgage £500
Food £250
Council Tax £110
Utilities £60
Petrol £50
Insurances £60
Car Loan £150 = Approx £1180

So we have about £1320 left over each month, just over half of which goes into savings and the other £500 ish is our spending. Whatever we don't spend gets transferred into savings and we start again the next month.

SavannaandAddisonmommy · 02/05/2012 13:39

We are extremley fortunate and lucky and have a few k left over

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 02/05/2012 13:42

A couple of grand a month - thats after all bills and food and uni fees, running the cars. - but we have no mortgage or loans. Out of that I save for Xmas and holidays and we save a good bit each year too.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 02/05/2012 13:48

God I always thought we were "comfortable" but compared most on here I'm skint!
After all bills, food and petrol we have about £200 per month for 2 adults and 2 kids.
