Since DSD moved in with us full time in Jan she has gone through 11 yes 11 water bottles 9 chewed til they leaked, 2 lost (left at her butt)

I keep giving in and thinking she will look after this one but the latest one was given to her on wednesday and was chewed when I got it back to wash that night and was lost Thursday GAH i know they are cheapish at £2.50 a pop but it's adding up now

I stopped giving mine water bottles when they were about yr2 (so what's that 6/7)

Certainly wouldn't bother at 11

We don't live in the desert. And I'm sure there are taps at school. Smile

Smurfy1 · 29/04/2012 05:52

Just calculated it I have spent nearly £30 grrrrrrr and all I get from her is a sarky sorry

£2.50 for a water bottle? Confused

ValiumQueen · 29/04/2012 06:48

Poundland do two for a quid, and they are quite nice too.

CaoNiMa · 29/04/2012 09:17

Tell her to stop chewing them! Is that really so hard?

imnotmymum · 29/04/2012 09:20

How old is she ??

TheCunningStunt · 29/04/2012 09:22

She is 11? I'd get her to buy them with her pocket money if she insists on chewing them......

MeKathryn · 29/04/2012 09:22

Get a metal one Wink

TheCunningStunt · 29/04/2012 09:22

Ooh 11 bottlesBlush

OptimisticPessimist · 29/04/2012 09:38

Unfortunately some children are chewers (my DS1 is one) and there's very little you can do about it. Either buy cheaper ones as suggested, or what I often do when caught unawares is a buy a bottle of water with a sports cap and refill it until chewed.

RubyGates · 29/04/2012 09:41

Lidl do the sports top bottles of water for 12p. I keep several of them in, and refill until it gets bashed/lost/forgotten/shewed/manky.

You could get a whole school year's worth for £30 if you had to use a new one everyday.

imnotmymum · 29/04/2012 09:42

MeKathryn a metal one ! genius! Still intriges to how old as to whether a habit or just winding you up !

RubyGates · 29/04/2012 09:42

I do not have a shew problem. The uninvited rodents in our house are all mice.Confused

McHappyPants2012 · 29/04/2012 09:50

DS tend to leak, luckly there is only a word box in there so do wreck books or reading record.

i just buy a muliple pack of water fro the whole salers about £4 for 30 bottles

bigTillyMint · 29/04/2012 09:53

Yes Paperchase do lovely metal ones, not chewable. Or get a cheaper plain version in Decathlon or another camping shop.

Or just buy plastic sports water bottles and refill until they are too chewed to reuse.

Or make her pay for any replacements in less than 3 months?

hattifattner · 29/04/2012 09:56

we lose a lot of bottles at swimming - 4 so far this year. SO now I buy sports cap bottles and refill. It works out much cheaper and I dont care if its not cool. If he wants cool bottles, he shall buy them himself.

imnotmymum · 29/04/2012 09:59

Am I the only one who does not carry water everywhere. Does the school insist on water bottles or is it the one in lunch box?

PurplePidjin · 29/04/2012 10:00

Why is she chewing? Could it be a comfort thing after quite a lot of upheaval?

gazzalw · 29/04/2012 10:03

School insists on water bottles - not sure why they can't have a drinking five minute with disposable cups at school though. Annoys the hell out of us as bottles often leak all over contents of school bags.... Also makes bags very heavy for carrying.

Boy in DS's class told off for having a metal bottle - presume because it could be used as a weapon????!!!!!!

TotemPole · 29/04/2012 10:06

imnotmymum, schools say the pupils can take a bottle into class. It's encouraged in infants. In juniors it isn't really mentioned apart from in in the hotter weather.

I usually buy Evian/Volvic/what ever is cheapest, refill it and replace after a week.

I often carry a bottle of water. I hate the thought of being stuck on the tube or bus and not having a drink with me.

imnotmymum · 29/04/2012 10:07

If school insists then they should provide bottles.

McHappyPants2012 · 29/04/2012 10:11

my son school sells them for £1 but they are rubbish and leak.

Cadsuane · 29/04/2012 10:12

My dd1 was the same. Now i buy a mulipack of water with sports tops from Aldis and both DDs take a fresh one each week and refill or replace when lost/dammaged. They also tend to take one when we go shopping or out for the day so we get through a pack a month roughly.

I don't get this carrying water everywhere thing either. What's wrong with sticking your head under the tap if you get thirsty, or just waiting for mealtimes? I'm Shock that schools insist on it.
