To never buy another water bottle

Since DSD moved in with us full time in Jan she has gone through 11 yes 11 water bottles 9 chewed til they leaked, 2 lost (left at her butt)

I keep giving in and thinking she will look after this one but the latest one was given to her on wednesday and was chewed when I got it back to wash that night and was lost Thursday GAH i know they are cheapish at £2.50 a pop but it's adding up now

It does make me cross. It brings out all my "there's children in the developing world who walk 5 miles to school every day and 5 miles back in equatorial heat and our brats apparently can't survive 2 hours drink less without turning into a small cube of component chemicals" grumpiness.

My DS chews everything. Like a puppy. He's nearly 12 and has aboutn 4 or 5 grown up teeth comming through, so I put it down to teething.

People acting like bottle chewers are OCD haha. Grin

I used to (and still do) chew bottles and straws. It was because my bite was atrocious (later had surgery) and it was far easier to keep the thing in my mouth if I bit it. :)

In other words I'd be going to the dentist before the psychiatrist.

i thought of the head doctor because it seemed like EVERYTHING has to be chewed! I even tried getting the metal bottles with the screw top and where you hang your fingers through? They chewed that part too. Like its not a part you drink but it came home with teeth marks. And the worst was one girl did it, it seems like the other two follows! and its all chewed with teeth marks until it cracked off! I have given up on giving them yet another bottle.

But they have gone on to being "distructive" by chewing other things or just not caring for their things. They draw on their backpacks, chew their DS stylus, deface their pencil cases, school files and even uniform, chew their pens like crazy. Like I don't give them much pocket money or indulge on replacements but they just live sloppy! So if they have drawn on their school uniform, they are fine being just down to two or one set! They chew their pens and suck on them whole day and have no qualms of sharing with their classmates. My eldest could be chewing a pen that has her friend's name right under her nose and she doesn't care! They complain about the community bin recorders being chewed and eeww I can think of the saliva of all the other kids sharing one, so i bought them their own. After a week, their personal recorders look as bad as the schools used for years. It will stink to high heavens as they don't wash it despite nagging, its chewed at both ends! yeah why both ends i don't know! they now have some dumb words (other than their name) written in marker! The case didn't even last a day as she chewed on it and then left somewhere. And a week later, all the three kids recorders will be chewed and have dumb sayings! I don't bother to replace them anymore! They can stink, they can share and they can go chew it for all i care now. So yeah. I understand smurfy's rant about never buying yet another.....

They get put aside, disciplined... but they keep coming back.... and they are not young either!

we got dd this bottle here not for chewing but for ease of cleaning (we have to be really careful). It has a spout rather than the pull up cap which may help / be harder to chew?

VonHerrBurton · 17/05/2012 11:41

I don't send them in anymore (Y4) unless it's really hot. They can fill them from the various water fountains around school and he's old enough now to do that himself with the few he must have knocking around. He has a big glass of water at breakfast and as much as he likes come 3pm.

Unless school are really strict on it or there aren't fountains/taps available with drinking water - I wouldn't bother OP.
