55p for a single packet!!!!!! Only found this out today,as I normally buy multi packs, but nipped into local shop as I fancied a packet. The last time I remember buying a single packet they were 35p.

20p a day spending money would get 2 packets of 5p crisps (Meanines and Cheese Puffs), a Highland Toffee and 5 penny sweets.

And I'm not that old.

Get some oddities from Sainsbury's....they are half price right now!

I can remember crisps going up in price to 5d, and being irritated that you couldn't get a whole number of packs for 2/- (10p). Not that, I hasten to add, I had anything like 10p to spend on crisps or anything else. Probably 6d or 1/- a week at that stage.

Note to self: Must get a grip on this 'new' money. It's been around since 15.2.72 ffs.

Interestingly, it's really horrifying to convert prices between the two.

Anyone remember packets of 5 Park Drive, and taking it in turns to have the fifth one when splitting the pack with a friend. Must have been about 10 or so. We used to smoke by the back fence of Houghs the timber merchants.

I tend to convert back to pre decimal and crisps are the real shocker, round here Walkers are 50p a bag ,ten bob for less than 1 tattie, does it count as 1 of our five a day?
