55p for a single packet!!!!!! Only found this out today,as I normally buy multi packs, but nipped into local shop as I fancied a packet. The last time I remember buying a single packet they were 35p.

also here (NI) most 500ml bottles of fizzy drinks i've come across are £1.19 wtaf!?!?!?

Most of what my local offy sells has "Part of multi-pack, not to be sold separately" written on them.

Even the shop owners are trying to make ends meet

I got told off at softplay for my bringing my DC's water bottles from home.

I had to buy their water.

£2 for a 500ml bottle.

I was so they nearly had to call an ambulance.

I keep walking around the shops with a face like an old dear on me @ this price and that and those over there.

Tutting and convinced that nobody will be wanting to shell out the fortune being charged for crisps and coke and other non essentials - THEN they'll HAVE to drop the price, right?

Until Friday/Saturday night when it suddenly becomes justified for me to have a hand basket full of snacks and drinks because I 'deserve' a treat.

This is why I shop at Aldi.
A big pack of crisps for less than a quid.
I went over today, got DD a couple of bags for the weekend, some cheapo lager fruit juice, and Ice Cream.

And if you can't get to an Aldis, there's bound to be a Poundland nearby, they are everywhere now. Guess how much a 6 multipack of crisps costs in Poundland? Guess how much 3 cans of coke cost in Poundland? There is no excuse for paying more than 20p for a packet of crisps.

Ok. I live in the US. Packet of crisps (potato chips) cost between 50 and 75 cents (depends on size and brand). Not nearly as much variety as in UK but if you want I'll send over in bulk and you can sell them on eBay.

Eeeeh I can remember when 50p got me a can of coke, a mars bar and enough change for some strawberry laces.

I can't believe how much it's all gone up in the past few years, I used to be able to buy 100 penny sweets for a pound, you can only buy 50 now! And Freddo's were 10p each only 10 years ago! I'm only 22 so it wasn't too long ago!

My local oriental supermarket do cans of pepsi for 27p each - far more reasonable

I think they were 3d (old money) when I was young - that is about 1.25p. So yes, they ave gone up a bit!

Crisps and bottles of drink are an outrageous price and obviously worse anywhere people quickly grab lunch or where there are tourists.
