to be fucked of when the icecream van comes round everynight around tea time?

ive tried changing the time we have tea to earlier or later but she comes round at different times everynight.
ive tried letting ds buy one then putting it in the freezer until after hes eaten, but i dont want him eating icecreams everyday.
yes ive tried saying no but its heartbreaking when hes up at the window watching his friends going to buy one,"oh please mummy"
what happened to just coming round in the summer,its not like the family that have the van are short of cash.they are well known in the area.

But you'd still have the same problem in the Summer surely?

They come round here right up til 9pm and always have, even when I was a little girl.

My parents used to tell me they only sold cigarettes at that time of night Grin

Just say no. Eventually your child will learn that whining and pleading do not get results.

DD nearly always asks for icecream after dinner, but I say "No, not tonight." and that is the end of the discussion.

I really don't think the driver is psychically working out when you will be having dinner and deliberately coming round at exactly that time.

Drives me mad too.... I thought we had it solved for this year as we are on a new build estate, only a handful of us living here so far.... But no! The van came round the other day.....for the builders!!!

i ment summer holidays when we can be more relaxed about the evenings and tea time is when its ready.
"no, not tonight", "oh why", "but why", "please", Please", "wail", "mummy", "sob", "just one little one",on and on and on even after its left, every bloody night

Also agree with the drugs thing even though I'm not in Sarf London. Ice cream vans in November and December. Snow on the ground. Hmm

Mine get something from the van on a Friday as a treat for being good all week at school (if they have been)

that's not going to work if he can see his friends buying them, is it?

Make a rule that he can have one ice cream from the van each week, on condition that he doesn't whinge on other days. Stick to it. It won't break your heart as much as the effects of not learning that 'no' means 'no'.

How old is he, BTW?

would i bu to ask her to park further down the street and not right outside the house?

i agree with saying no and meaning no, but when its everyday i feel cruel.

just thought of setting maybe two days of when hes aloud one,so i could say not today its not friday or whatever

Look I know it's frustrating but you can't really blame the ice cream lady for the fact you can't say no to your child. They depend on people lik you for business. In this house No means No. They accept that (usually) but it is hard earned. I had to stick o my guns though lts of pester power to get to here but i did. Your child whines and whinges at you because he knows you'll give in. And you do. That's noones fault but your own.
Why not agree that he can have an ice cream one day a week. Say Friday? Any other day you answer is 'oh no it's not Friday today. Remember we agreed? Now go and play. No crying or shinning or we won't get any on Friday either' by the Summer you will have him well used to the idea, and won't have to put up with the begging anymore.
