I used to work makeup counters when I was young (and more orange) and when I was in uni was convinced by a friend who was a recruiter (and desoerate to meet targets) to turn up for a job interview for a company "like Mac"
. Basically they sent you out 14 hours per day selling substandard makeup sets on street corners and door to door, made you sign a contract saying you were self employed so they could pay you only (very poor rates of) commission and sack you without notice. No breaks, no employee rights, you get the picture. They were listed under different marketing companies throughout the uk and were a very dodgy operation (I looked them up when I got home).
Luckily I was used to having decent jobs and laughed all the way out of the door but somebody desperate for work could easily be taken in by a company like that, come off their benefits and be royally screwed.
This seems to be the kind of "sales" position which is cropping up all too often at the moment. (I work closely with a benefits office)
