Clearly social services are happy with Octomum. I am glad that she has a sensible social worker.

The idea of potty training 8 three-year olds doesn't bare thinking about. I suppose we are lucky in the UK to have nursery funding for three and four year olds and in some cases two year olds.

DaisySteiner · 27/04/2012 10:00

What an absolutely vile article Sad

Housemum · 27/04/2012 11:02

Graffiti aside, I just thought there was less clutter than my house Blush. Deliberately making her out to be worse than she is - not sure I could spend $500 on a haircut but maybe her hair takes forever to sort out and by getting whatever that chemical straightening is done gives her more time every day? And how posed was the chair-against-the bedroom door. Oh, of course, you'd leave it there all the time wouldn't you Hmm

Nothing wrong with potties in the garden - better the accidents outside and they learn, don't most training guides suggest getting the child used to the potty first then moving it to the bathroom when they have learned to hold on a bit longer?

Well, my 4 yo refuses to eat most foods and is small for her age - we have toys in the garden and Shock they don't all go back in the playhouse at night. The 8 yo wanders the streets (well, knocks for a friend and scooters around the close). Waiting for the knock on the door for my malnourished and untidy children...

GeriatricBabyMama · 27/04/2012 11:53

I wondered if someone gave her the money to have her hair done as a present. It's hard to imagine that the poor woman has much spare cash to treat herself with.

ReallyTired · 27/04/2012 12:21

Octomum has earnt money from modelling.

She was paid $10000 for a nude photoshoot and I imagine she needs her hair to look good to secure such work.

I'm jelous (in the nicest of ways) that she is now size 8 inspite of having 8 babies.

HecateTrivia · 27/04/2012 12:26

bugger the state of the house. What matters is - if it is true - the children being malnourished, locked in a bedroom, dirty...

The fact that there are clothes all over the floor is so far from being the problem here. Have the messiest home in the world, but don't lock your children in the bedroom or fail to feed them.

Again - if it is true.

It is, after all, the daily mail...

FlouncyMcFlouncer · 27/04/2012 16:46

Even THAt article contradicts itself:

"Three years ago Nadya Suleman became the Octomom. Now, the mother of 14 has posed nude for British Magazine ?Closer.?

Suleman, who poses topless in a pair of flesh colored panties, says that she is proud of her post-baby body and claims that she has ?never looked this good.? "

Make your minds up, journos, is she nude or is wearing knickers? There Is a difference!

whereismymind73 · 27/04/2012 19:05

I think the house looks absolutely filthy to be honest ( but I'm a clean freak)

bochead · 27/04/2012 21:33

This poor woman just can't win as far as the right-wing media is concerned she' always be a figure of hate. She's damned whatever she does poor woman.

I don't see the Duggars subjected to such villification by the media yet I have my own opinion about that lady's hyper fertility and ability too Wink. The presence of a man & a marriage certificate makes them angels in the eyes of the fundy right-wingers.

Do remember this is the same country that issues death threats to mothers who try to reduce a mutiple pregnancy to a manageable amount via their "pro-life" anti-abortion movement. She's still getting death threats for daring to apply for food stamps - how sick is that, to send death threats to a mother for the "crime" of asking for help to feed her kids?

Hand on heart how many people do you know that could single-handedly raise 14 kids, 8 of whom are still at the potty training house, and have an immaculate house and never need a penny of state aid, hold down a career and never need a hand around the house at all EVER?

My sister raised 8 kid including twins and triplets and you bet she had some bought in household help + a great hubby! Legally noone is allowed to childmind that many kids here in the UK.

Some of the comments in the article were just plain dumb. Cali is a warm climate -most parent I know have a potty in the garden in the summer months. Toys were strewn around the garden? That's what happens with 8 happy 3 year olds - you pop lots of toys out in the sun for them to play on. Boys wearing girls T-shirts, well kid spills dinner down himself and with that many siiblings to watch you wash him down fast and pop the nearest clean garment to hand on him as he wriggles in your lap keen to rejoin the game his siblings are playing.

The US is a country that's happy to allow poor children to live in cars and tents.

I don't agree with the circumstances of the kid's conception, and was VERY pleased to see the fertility doctor jailed. Yet now the kids are here I just wish people would either 1/ Give her a hand or 2/Let her raise those kids in peace.

As for the hairdresser who was happy to take £500 from her and then run to the papers and report her to SS to create a scandal to boost her own newspaper payday? I hope the piece of silver she recieved for the newspaper reports was worth the cost of her conscience - what a bitch!

topknob · 27/04/2012 21:38

I have 5 kids, me and dh...my washing pile is HUGE...and often lays across the landing floor..our kids garden toys are left laying around during the day..I put them away at night. They have at times drawn on walls but are thankfully older now. I feel for this woman..she must be finding it hard and she has 12 children, I think? and is on her own.

GeriatricBabyMama · 28/04/2012 11:30

bochead I wish there was a facility for 'liking' posts on here! I agree completely with every word you've said.

peanutbutter38 · 28/04/2012 11:35

I hate the term Octomum. It makes me think of some hideous Octopus/Human hybrid rising from the deep!

GeriatricBabyMama · 28/04/2012 11:37

There is something rather dehumanising about it, yes...

TalHotBlond · 28/04/2012 11:50

I feel desperately sorry for her. She was massively irresponsible but is paying hugely for her mistakes. She is drowning and has no support from anywhere. The media (well, certain sections of it) are determined to make her into a "Bad Mother" pantomime villain and she can't even trust the hairdresser.

I also don't think the house is that bad. Sure mine would be far worse in her situation. I only have 2dc and her life is my idea of hell.

Badgerina · 28/04/2012 11:53

Who the fuck is Octomom!?!?!?!?!? Is she a comic book character? She sounds like an evil super villain!

BoffinMum · 28/04/2012 11:59

Her house looks exactly like I would expect it to look - busy and a bit messy but by no means what I would call squalid.

The kids in the pictures look fairly normal for their age group, a but lean, but then their mother is on the slim side, and some of mine looked like that early in life as well.

The washing pile is surprisingly small for the number of people.

If they all cared so much they would be sending in volunteers to help her spend a bit of time with the children individually or in smaller groups, which is probably the only real problem she has in the circumstances, like all large families.

Badgerina · 28/04/2012 12:00

Ok I just Googled her Confused ConfusedConfused HmmHmmHmm

BoffinMum · 28/04/2012 12:05

She was bonkers to put herself in that position, but now the kids are there, I am surprised the church etc isn't doing more to help.
