Is this vindicative or being responsible citizen!

Came home from school run and v unimpressed that car I don't recognise has parked outside my house (really small cul de sac) so had to park on main road and negotiate kids, traffic and rain- not big deals but bit narked. Have just noticed the tax disc on it expired at end of jan- should I report it?
Am I just being grumpy and mean?

SoupDragon · 25/04/2012 16:52

Report it.

WorraLiberty · 25/04/2012 16:52

Report it if you want, but doing it because it's parked in a spot you'd rather be parked in is a weird reason.

Do you have a dropped kerb and driveway?

hiddenhome · 25/04/2012 16:52

You could do. If they haven't got Tax then they might not have a valid MOT and Insurance as well Sad

ABatInBunkFive · 25/04/2012 16:53

Report it if you like but they wont move the car.

WaitingForMe · 25/04/2012 16:53

I'd report it.

HecateTrivia · 25/04/2012 16:54

They have no tax disc, so report them if you want, but you ask if it's vindictive or being a responsible citizen - it's vindictive because your motivation is revenge for parking on a public road in what you consider to be 'your' spot.

MissLofPubia · 25/04/2012 16:56

I wouldn't care whether I was being vindictive or not, report it!

WorraLiberty · 25/04/2012 16:56

Untaxed cars get towed away here

But I think it takes a few days.

AKMD · 25/04/2012 16:56

Report it as untaxed and abandoned. That'll teach'em.

Onethingatatime · 25/04/2012 16:57

Wish we did have a drive, it's a public road so no law against anyone parking there, just get annoyed as only 8 houses, room for 8 cars and all of us respect each others bit of road! Probably am just as I was inconvenienced a bit but also don't like idea of uninsured/ illegal drivers on road?

Catsmamma · 25/04/2012 16:58

I expect someone has visitors...how bloody rude of them.

hiddenhome · 25/04/2012 17:00

There was an untaxed car outside our house once in the parking area. It belonged to next door who was a policeman Hmm It wasn't 'off road' as the parking area belonged to the council. It gradually started falling to bits and didn't move for about two years. I got fed up and reported it and it was removed two days later.

Onethingatatime · 25/04/2012 17:00

All of us tend to have visitors park on main road round the corner- unwritten rule!

OP posts:
WilsonFrickett · 25/04/2012 17:02

Erm, if it's not written rule then how do the visitors know it's a rule?

hiddenhome · 25/04/2012 17:02

They obviously don't know the rules, which isn't necessarily their fault, but they should have car tax as we're all subject to the law. They probably haven't got insurance either, which is the really bad thing.

ABatInBunkFive · 25/04/2012 17:03

AKMD they don't just take someones word that it has been abandoned, it sits for forever a while with a sticker thing and then gets removed, Worra i know they will eventually tow it but i'm guessing the car will be gone long before they turn up to take it.

No road tax doesn't = uninsured as far as i know.

Wilsson- I know we all sound weirdly obsessive but we've all lived here for a lot of years so it just kind of developed, there are some elderly couples so nobody wanted to make them park away from their house and guess it just moved on from there.

Janoschi · 25/04/2012 17:05

The car could be taxed and insured but they're waiting for a new tax disc to arrive....?

Only saying because I'm in the position of having bought a secondhand car on Sunday, tax disc expired end of March. I've taxed, MoT'd and insured the car but the disc will take 5 days to arrive. So I'm trying to keep the car out of the way of police until I get the badge. I'd be a bit sad if someone reported me for this.

Onethingatatime · 25/04/2012 17:06

Janoschi, me too but this expired end of jan? So am presuming, maybe wrongly,, that they're not bothered about being untaxed?

OP posts:
Debsbear · 25/04/2012 17:07

As you can't insure a car without road tax then it probably isn't insured. So you could report them justifiably but you could give them the benefit of the doubt and leave a note on teh windscreen pointing out that their tax disc has expired and asking them not to park in front of your house again.

Onethingatatime · 25/04/2012 17:08

Ah debsbear that sounds like the reasonable thing to do- would feel much less of a wicked witch doing that! :)

OP posts:
Janoschi · 25/04/2012 17:08

Yes it's a bit long to be without a disc. Just wanted to say though that an out-of-date disc doesn't always mean an ignorant shitty owner! Defensive until my disc arrives!

Onethingatatime · 25/04/2012 17:09

Jan have done same, my pay date means can't always replace in time!

OP posts:
Yummymummyyobe1 · 25/04/2012 17:10

Report them as they are untaxed. Although there is a breathing period between your old tax expiring and the new one beginning.

We have the same issue with people parking along the road here as there is a surgery at the top of the street and more often than not the staff are still parked outside the house at gone 17:30. I think in situations where limited parking is available then parking permits for residents are the fairest way of doing it and one hour parking with no return all day. What gets me is that there is a pay and display carpark further down people can park in. (sorry rant over)
