here that Madeleine could still be alive. I have always thought the worse but this being bought up again now seems to be quite out of the blue and i can't help but hope.

I know its bad form, but i just wanted to share the glimmer

Hello,

We appreciate this thread is about highly sensitive issues.

A balanced discussion is always welcome, but could we please ask you to take a look at our Guidelines

Many thanks

Sandy

Interestingly, the McCanns had tried to get Amaral's book banned and had been impounded the copies in a warehouse. The Portuguese court ordered their return and this is happening today. There is speculation in Portugal that the Panorama programme was brought forward from next week to bury this information.

I strongly suspect that the return of Amaral's books won't be reported in the British press. Instead all we have is a media frenzy about a new age progressed picture and Andy Redwood saying that Madeleine could be alive or she could be dead. I think anyone of us could have told him that for nothing - we didn't need to spend £3 million on it.

Well £3million is a drop in the ocean compared to the overspend on the olympics and "celebrating" housing the queen in a giant council for the past 60 years.

The link to the guidelines doesn't appear to work?

catsareevil · 26/04/2012 18:15

And it is, in effect £3 million ploughed back into the economy via police wages.
It also is possible that the police investigation will provide some sort of conclusion.

catsareevil · 26/04/2012 18:16

Cornflowers

You are right. Does that mean that there are no rules? WinkGrin

Portofino · 26/04/2012 20:26

I am amazed this thread hasn't gone yet! The conspiracy theories are ridiculous mostly - they seem to imply that the whole of the "Tapas 7" are some how implicated in covering up a murder/accident. How likely IS that? Would you do that?

There are some sad individuals on websites who must spend hours poring over every little comment and trying to put a sinister spin on it. Put all these little bits together and OF COURSE it all sounds a bit dodgy. The same thing was done to Amanda Knox - the day they released her, there were comments here saying that she was EVIL, and MUST HAVE DONE IT, even though, when it came down to it there was not a shred of evidence, just Media annihilation.

I have no idea what happened to poor Madeleine McCann. I am not sure we will ever know.

wannaBe · 26/04/2012 20:55

I don't think it has anything to do with a potential cover up of an accident/murder. . I imagine though that it's entirely possible that someone could do harm to a child (any child) without the knowledge of the other friends in their group. After all these people were not all sharing an apartment, they were not living in one another's pockets iyswim. So just because people don't talk, doesn't mean they are necessarily covering something up - it may just mean that either A, there's nothing to talk about, or B, they don't have any more knowledge than anyone else...

I'm unable to understand why my message was deleted. It simply contained a link to official letters published from the investigation files which just explained why I had said what I said in the previous post, about the reconstruction not happening.

How strange.

Flightty · 27/04/2012 07:48

This whole thing is really strange...whoever said that was right anyway.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 27/04/2012 07:52

it is a glimmer of hope, but if it were my child I would always hope. Sad

She went missing on my daughters birthday and every year when we celebrate I always think about her and say a silent prayer that she is safe.

doormat · 27/04/2012 08:04

flighty i think it is the whole censorship of this subject..as whatme says the huge warchest sues anyone that walks, it isnt the fault of mn nor other websites as they could be faced with litigation, which i think we do all understand....

i have never known a case to be such a taboo subject

LaVolcan · 27/04/2012 09:23

Absolutely flightly and doormat.

It's the way we are only allowed to hear one side of the story which raises a red flag for me. I don't know what happened, I wasn't there, but I do know that I smell a rat.

Poor Madeleine is all I can say.

cornflowers · 27/04/2012 09:27

Apparently a lot of the fund raised was spent on legal fees and 'media monitoring'.

Really noddy? Did that happen?

doormat · 27/04/2012 10:57

yes kitty it did, noddy is correct with her post, aswell as what cornflowers says too ..

Whatmeworry · 27/04/2012 11:10

i have never known a case to be such a taboo subject

They usually are if there is a lot of money around shutting people up :)

Anyway, there is a Panorama programme on tonight about the McCann-Murdoch-Government links. Now that the Murdoch Effect is wearing off we may start to see some movement, and dare one speculate the cops may be less, ahem, "influenced" these days?

kittyandthefontanelles · 27/04/2012 11:19

Gosh, I didn't know that about the statements. Very fishy

wannaBe · 27/04/2012 11:23

I think the constant litigation is bizarre. I can understand taking action again the press for printing blatantly false stories such as the story that the children were sedated, etc, but that is entirely different from voicing an opinion.

Unfortunately, when someone goes missing, there is always an assumption that the family are responsible, and that is because nine times out of ten, they are. Suing people for saying that is only going to increase the speculation, and isn't actually going to stop people from thinking it, even if they aren't allowed to say it.

I am far more bemused by this notion that Madeleine could still be alive than by some of the other speculation voiced here and elsewhere...
